okay, i'll admit that i got unnecessarily butthurt. my bad.

although i'm not entirely sure wet sanding would work with this clay because its pretty soft. i have a feeling one of two things would happen. either it'll gum up the paper incredibly fast, or fine marks all over the surface, even if i chill the clay to make it as hard as possible.

but you are right, the surface isn't as smooth as it could be. i'll be going over it with some isopropyl alcohol and a hyper soft sponge to smooth it out.

sorry about being a dick.

Well, now that'll get a little complicated I expect. Especially for pieces with so many polygons, it's only a matter of time before it collapses.

I say, go out and buy some resin. You don't need to cast it, just mix it and spread it on the insides. It'll keep the paper stiffer than glue or epoxy would, and it spreads evenly.

Hm... I hope you will be able to move your arms at the end. But I guess, you will be fine. For the floating problem: Add some black foam inside of the armor so you don`t have contact to the Worbla at any time. Use around... hm... 1cm or even more so you just need to slip into the foam and not the Worbla. EVA foam should be a good choice. Also test the armor well before your convention. It will be very painful if you won`t atjust the foam in the right way.

And don't worry about me being in contact with it since the character has gloves that go completely up her arm. I do want to add foam still though, and more padding up by the shoulder piece. How do you go about attaching the foam?

Unfortunately I probably won't get the chance to test out the armor in advance. If it's super uncomfortable I'll just wear it for my craftsmanship judging at ctcon and then make adjustments for otakon. :p

>>6953760
They're actually full pieces! Other reference showed them as the only full piece, lord knows why. Which is why I can't quite figure out how to attach them without velcroing them directly to my glove. I dunno. Primer into a base would make it look better I think, especially since you're doing a very light color. It'll also keep the paint even

Primer - Base Coat (Flat yellow, flat black, flat orange maybe) - Main Color Coat - Topcoat

That sounds like it'd work out better, especially if you don't plan on doing any additional detailing.

Actually, I was wondering about that. What exactly do you mean about that then? So far I've coated it in a layer of white primer and I was planning on just going with the top coat next. I've never done anything like this before so it's nice to hear some suggested steps. And, yes, I've sanded it down before priming it. So far it looks like it's holding well.

In the meantime, I actually went back to do some more liquid nail cosmetic touch-ups to try to seal the gap that runs down the middle of the hammer head where the two buckets meet. It's tiresome when the longest part of a process is waiting for something to dry.

You did the fiberglassing way too heavily. It looks extremely slopped-on and rushed.

The pep work as it is will require A LOT of hard work to get it to not look so boxy.

When fiberglassing, don't do it all in one go and remember you'll have to do several layers as it is. Don't slop it on, and remember that it will clump into little balls as it starts to dry.
You'll have to hurry, but work evenly and carefully.

Also, with pepping, it will really, really help if you take a blue and red pen, a ruler, and mark out all of your mountain and valley folds before hand.
It creases the cardstock so it is easier to fold, and gives you a much cleaner outcome since it will be crisper.

Few things.

Always use primer that's a darker color than your final result. It just looks a hell of a lot better. If you're doing a very pale color, white works. For orange or yellow, gray is usually better.

Also, you might want to consider priming, then letting it dry and sanding it down, and then priming it again. Fills in small gaps.

When painting, you want to give it a layer of primer, then a few days to let it dry, then a base coat, then a few days to let that cure, then the main coat, and then leave it for a few days, then the topcoat, and then leave it for a week or so.

Paint may dry in a few hours but it doesn't completely cure that fast. If you rush it you're going to end up in a world of hurt.

>In the meantime, I actually went back to do some more liquid nail cosmetic touch-ups to try to seal the gap that runs down the middle of the hammer head where the two buckets meet. It's tiresome when the longest part of a process is waiting for something to dry.

I think bondo or putty might work better. hell, if you wanted to, you could probably put some wood glue there and sand that down instead.

Little bit of advice. Airbrush paint isn't the thickest there is out there, and I can see you tried to do some gradient shading.

IT'S HAPPENING.
Have to fill the buckets with expanding foam, sand them down and paint the ends before it's finally finished.

Any tips on doing that? Should I work with the foam only after it has dried? Apparently it depends on the kind of expanding foam I'm using but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this stuff and could share some information on the process.

I don't know what density you're going to use (I'm only familiar with one kind) but sometimes the exposed surfaces remain tacky for a while. It's really just a lot of pattern making and understanding how shapes interact with each other. The base shapes were made off of an aluminum foil and duct tape life cast of my body. That was cut apart and traced onto paper to make patterns of my body.

I used L-200 foam because it's less dense and way easier to work with than EVA foam and I glue it together with contact cement. For the trim I just go to a craft store and get 1/8" craft foam.

They have very similar properties but they have different densities. So like a half inch thick piece of EVA is harder to bend than a piece of L-200 of the same thickness. Pretty much L-200 is softer and easier to sand. Also each company produces their own L-200 so the properties of the foam vary from place to place. Some companies might market their L-200 as EVA but I think EVA is closer to L-300.

Unfortunately how to seal the foam is the pro's secret. That's the step that makes his stuff different than the rest. All I can say is that he rubberizes the paint. He has a secret mixture he uses. There are plenty of tutorials online that you can use though. If you want the foam to be rigid, people usually coat it with glue or fiberglass it. Sorry I can't help you with that step.

That looks really good! I was going to use worbla at first also, but then I found a tutorial where the girl uses brass. I liked the outcome, but I haven't worked with metal like this before so it's really just trial and error.
I was planing on using a grinding bit to shape the edges, then a sanding band to smooth them off completely and finish with a felt polisher or something.
Did you cast your own gems or did you buy them?
It's been 24 hours for my tiny resin gem, yet it is still impressionable. I don't know if it is because its cold here, or I messed up the measurements.

5 foot long wig of death for Lambda-11 (Blazblue). The left is how it came and I just braided it. (pic related) Kinda thickish, or average for most wigs.

On the right I added wefts. I had to get loose braiding hair from the store to match the color and get the length without paying $100 to match things. Silicon caulked the loose hair to bias tape, straightened the SUPER kinky wefts, trimmed it to size, and hand-sewed it in to make the braid (and top) about 2x as thick as it was. Took about 3 hours before drying time, and it's not styled yet, but I was SO happy with how close the color of the wefts matched.

Please ignore how I look after 12 hours of marathon cosplay work.

Ughhh, it is like my lifes dream to take my veteran ranger cosplay to SDCC one year and take some legit desert photos. (Desert is a tough thing to come by in ohio if you werent aware)
And because im a vain motherfucker, heres my ragtag fallout cosplay group from colossalcon this year. Nothing was actually planned for it, we all just ran into each other in the hallway and formed a group as saturday progressed.
Also apologies for the instagram filter, i wasnt the one who edited it.. Anyway, i hope you guys have an awesome time, ill get my ass out there eventually!

Me and the Graham might meet up on the staircase between C and D on Saturday, probably outside the Con since it's the only day I do not have a badge. If you see the NCR rangers you should do so too! I'll post here what time we might meet up.

Alright. We figured we'd have a Fallout meetup at 5pm on the staircase between C and D on Saturday. Be there or be a profligate.

Finally got the chest piece done and decided to do a test fit of what I had. The throat guard needs trimmed a little lower. Also, the arm pieces will be hinged together so they stay on better and the shoulder guards will sit more vertically (I just slapped some tape on them real quick so they stuck until I get some straps).

The glue makes it look gross but the paint will cover it. It still needs a bit more tweaking before I’m happy with it.

Oh dont remind me, no one knew what Di gi charat was, and that was pretty popular growing up. this makes me feel old and I am not even old yet.

To actually post some progress though, I finished my yoko boots and made my first tutorial! I was super excited about that, I really want to make another tutorial in the future but I dont have much I can teach people.

Actually, tank girl constantly has different outfits.
Everyone always wears the one with the target, though.

So, no, not a troll. Just someone who actually reads the comics.

you said " Doesn't play the game, know how the armor is meant to fit, or know shit about armor making"

I pointed out how armor doesn't fit like the game model, pointed out how the armor is inaccurate, and I still know a shit ton more about armor making than you

Bodysuit looks pretty good, dunno about the ribs, though. They don't look very rib-like. They look more like binding. Did you paint in your spine on the back? I noticed that you didn't on the front, but if you thought that'd look weird on a real human, I'd get that. At least put it on your back, though

What're you gonna wear for shoes?

Sew them onto the skirt while flat, then lightly stuff them for the flat yet puffed out look. Definitely do not pack in stuffing. Made that mistake many, many times. I heard quilt batting is also a good choice but haven't tried.

I finally put my Riddler costume together for the most part. All I need is to add a question mark decal to the tie and get a purple domino mask.

I thought about trying to get a pair of green pants and purple shoes to go with it, but I figure it might be a pain to try and find a pair that match the jacket well and its better just to go with black pants/shoes (in other words, the path of least resistance).

The cane was one of those cheap props you can get at most costume stores, but I coated it in a few layers of plasti-dip to strengthen it, then a few layers of gold spray paint to give it that nice, shiny look.

>>6981401
I do not want to come across as overly critical, but that jacket seems like it is a bit too small for you. If you bought it locally, I would suggest exchanging it for the next size up. If you made it yourself, then next time do a test draft before using your good fabric.

>> No.6981418

>>6981406
I actually got it online. Believe it or not, that's actually the largest size they have. Blazers that shade of green are actually sort of hard to come by.

>> No.6981720

>>6981401
If you can find a jacket and pants that fit you well (that arent green) for cheap, you can just bleach and dye them. That way, you have stuff that actually fits, AND theyll be the same exact shade of green. Just a suggestion though. Otherwise you did a pretty good job, especially on that cane.

I had the reverse issue with my Riddler costume a few years back. Found a great green jacket, but only in a size that was a bit too big for me. And at the time, I was still very new to sewing and didn't want to risk ruining it by altering it too much, so I just wore it as it was. I looked so awful in that damn jacket.

What's the character? And what is the material, wonderflex? Syntra?

And did you add foam padding to the inside of your bicep armor?

Pardon questions, it looks awesme.
