Went through all 10 pages and didn't see one, so wig thread! All wig related questions and discussions here!

My question is this: I'm going to cosplay Nakamura from Aku no Hana and I'm looking for the right wig. I have very minimal styling experience so something as close to her hair would be preferred. I'm looking at Arda's Jaguar in maroon, but it still looks a bit too red to me. Any suggestions? Also, general styling tips?

I'm looking for a wig thats looks like the attached pic.
The only problem is that i need it in black, and all the ones I find have blunt bangs when I need side swept bangs. Does anyone know where I can find something like it?

Not sure if it comes in black, but if you can find one that does, you can just trim the bangs so they go to the side.
You're supposed to trim the bangs on any wig anyway.

I just bought Arda's Katinka in Maroon for Nakamura. All that would be necessary for styling is to trim off those long front tendrils and possibly thin out the bangs a bit (Gonna wait and see how dense and bluntly cut they are before I do that though).
I considered the Jaguar but the back looked really choppy and the Katinka has the same a-line shape as Nakamura's hair. Hoping that their maroon errs more towards actual maroon than red.

If this thread is still around when my wig gets in I'll toss it on a wig head and take a picture for you.

Trying to order from cyperous, but I'm not sure I understand their system. In the guide it says that you should put zeroes in the telephone and zip code fields, and then put your zip code and telephone number in the "note field". What do they mean by note field? Also, do their wigs generally run small or large in size?

My Katinka arrived today and it's really pretty. The color match is almost perfect there are definitely pinkish hues to the fibers (it's a mix). I'd call it an ever so slightly more realistic take on Nakamura's hair so I'm really pleased with it. I'll throw it on my wig head and take pictures within the next few days, and probably take a break from my other costumes to trim it. It seems like a good length right now so I think that only those front tendrils will need to be cut.

Anyway, I'd recommend Arda's Maroon for Nakamura.

Hahaha nevermind, I couldn't resist the call of a new wig. I'm fat and fug so blurring my face. Here's how it hangs without anything done to it. I'm really tall and have a long face so you might need to trim more off if you're a smaller person. The tendrils in front will be chopped off to about chin length. The back is a bit longer than I was expecting but it's not so terrible of a length that I can't just leave it. I may thin the bangs a tiny bit bit but right now they cover my eyebrows nicely like hers are in the anime so whatever, they're the least of my priorities. The sides are kind of poofy right now but all you'd really need is a bobby pin or two behind the ears to keep it down.

I'd consider it an easy wig to style for a beginner and you won't have to cut in bangs for it like you would if you bought a Lulu or Jaguar.

P.S. the lighting in my room is kind of yellow.

Not all of the wigs from AnimeStuff store are heat-resistance. Look in the description of the wig you want to buy. It will either say high-quality fiber or something about heat-resistance. I like to buy from them sometime coz their shipping is super quick (3-5 days for US shipping) and their quality is good for the price. Their non-heat-resistance wigs are still good quality, just a bit on the shiny side but that can be easily fixed by using baby powder or other methods to get rid of the shine.

Arda's long wigs do tangle, but for me they've always been pretty good. I own a Jeanne, a Luthien, and I've worked with a long clip. The Jeanne is easy for me to deal with, just take a small comb and go. Curly wigs like my Luthien are a bit more of a pain to deal with since I go curl by curl in order to maintain the bounce.

The long clip was pretty bad since I was ripping wefts out which led to some crazy tangling. I just took it slow and worked knots out with my fingers.

For your sanity I recommend treating any wig past shoulder length with something like Motions.

As I recall from tutorials I've seen, those bangs are usually held up with a lot of layering fibers, and curlers/round brush and heat styling, rather than a buttload of product (although there is a lot of hairpsray, but much of it is heat+rolling and backcomb the roots).

I own a long epic wig and it doesn't tangle (least problems I've had with tangling was actually on one of the really old cosworx wigs). The downside is it doesn't tease well and getting volume in the bangs is a pain because of that. After about 5 min wear they just kind of flop.

I'm planning to cosplay this character possibly sometime next year, but after a bit of looking around I'm having a hard time finding a wig that matches up to this character's hair. I've come across a few blonde wigs with pink ends, but none of them are completely accurate to the character, so I'm guessing I'd be best off getting a blonde base wig and dying the tips. Even then I can't find any wigs that have the same fullness and slight curls that Trinity's hair has; I'm thinking I'll need to find a base wig that's close as possible, then maybe get wefts and sew them in to attain the right thickness? I really don't have much wig experience so help would be most appreciated ;;

Arda's wigs are basically indestructible unless you put them in the oven or hack them up with scissors.

I happen to have a Luthien in blonde, so if you'd like pictures of the length and color I could share.

Just turn a straightener on low heat and run it through like you would your own hair. Treat with Motions or similar to help keep it from getting tangled, and store braided.

Be prepared to spend a decent amount of time untangling after a day of wear, just be patient and work from the ends to the tip with your fingers and a small comb. Straighten any frizzy bits with kinked fiber.

As >>6930035 said, Epic is also an option. I've never owned a wig from them, so I won't say anything else.

Go curl by curl with your fingers and a small comb. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Have lotion/conditioner on hand to help with the nastier knots and work through those with your fingers. After you get the curl detangled, spritz it with water and smooth down the hair. This'll take quite a bit of time, so be patient.

If the fibers are really kinky and rough from being tangled, you might have to straighten that part of the wig and recurl it.

Here's a picture of my Luthien after I untangled it.

I have a question for you guys.
I just got this wig today, and I can't help but feel like it's a little too poofy. I was thinking of thinning it down to what it would (kiiiiinda) look like in the bottom left pic, but I'm afraid of the wefts (is that even the right word?) showing. When I got a casual second opinion, the person said she thought it looked better poofy as it already is. Obviously I'm going to cut the bangs into something similar to bottom right and style the rest of it a bit, but do you guys think it's worth thinning the wig down?

Hi /cgl/! I am working on Daenerys Targaryen cosplay and am a bit stuck on the wig. Pic related is what I'm going for, it's an Arda Matilda in Titanium Blonde with the hot water method. Unfortunately, Arda doesn't seem to be restocking the style in this color soon. I know Five Wits has a Dany styled wig, but from what I've seen its rather ugly and is too grey for my liking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if it's a Mathilda, that means it's a lace front, which limits your options pretty significantly. If you're fine with not having a lace front, and don't plan on dyeing it, the Linda XXL in a 613 from new look might be a good alternative (I have one in a blonde mix). There's also a decent selection of long wigs with no bangs on amphigory, but again no lace front. You can ventilate your own lace front and sew it in as an option. Otherwise it might be best to wait for a restock from Arda.

With wigs that aren't heat resistant, this can help bend the fibers without damaging them. After it dries completely, I'd keep the curlers in, and spray the crap out of it with a product like got2b.

Best of luck, I hope you can find something to work!

I've been contemplating it, but all their even medium length wigs I've had tangled with the treatment. I know their Maroon would be the perfect color IMO but still anxious to just jump in with their prices.

Personally I've used regular shampoo and conditioner, so have a lot of my friends, and my wigs have turned out just fine and dandy. Just go slow anon! Use a small out of shampoo at first, and go from there. Play it by ear. If you're really paranoid and worried, there are shampoos and conditioners made just for wigs that cost under $10!

Where can I buy a decent twin tails wig?
Everyone bitches about GLW, and I don't like L-email due to shitty past experiences (really thin in some areas, tangly-ass mess, super shiny/fake looking, etc.)
Most "good" wig sellers that I've seen mentioned don't seem to carry twin tail wigs. Should I just pick up a GLW when they're on offer so it's not so bad? Or can someone direct me to a better shop?

Yeah, that's understandable. With every arda wig I've purchased, the first thing I do is spray it with some sort of spray unless I'm going to spike it or something. I remember one time with a friend's waist long wig we didn't do anything to it, and it had a HUGE knot in the middle of it. It was terrible to brush out! They tangle so easily, which sucks because the thickness of the wigs is great and the color is usually really accurate.

Have you looked at epiccosplay? I heard their wigs are pretty good.

Do you just want like, a simple twin tails wig?

To be honest I use random ebay sellers with good and reputable ratings, and I've never gotten a bad wig.

With Arda, I've found that the trick is immediate brushing and a light misting of both an antifrizz/detangle spray and a setting spray. I've had a luthien wig that has been fine after several uses now. I still have to comb it out at the end of the day, but it no longer snarls or knots up.

Depends on what you want your twintails to look like. Are you looking for something curly and lolita-ish? Or something like Miku?

I have to tease a wig like crazy for Otakon, but I am worried considering its July and it's humid as balls. I'm worried that it's just going to go flat the second I try to transport it.

What should I do to prevent it from going flat?

I've managed to keep my Luthien pretty nice, just some minor frizz that can be fixed pretty easy. I just use a ton of hair spray to keep the curls like they're supposed to be. My Claudia was a disaster, though.

I'm just looking for a natural brown and a natural blonde one. I've been wary of ebay since I bought a wig from a "reputable" seller a cosplay and had it be much more yellow than the photo would have suggested. Granted, that was four or five years ago.

Fantasy Sheep has this wig and I've heard great things about them. I'm actually looking to try them out myself.

I'm working on a Kisame cosplay and trying to get the color as close as possible. For whatever reason, I bought the wig the dark blue color and I didn't realize until it arrived today that getting it in midnight blue might've been a better choice. Opinions?

Not a wig question but wig related.

>Somebody returns wig that looks like it's gone through a cotton candy machine
>Normally toss it in the trash.
>Say fuck it, take it home with me, and figure I'd try the challenge of seeing if I could salvage it.
>A few hours later with a comb, brush, wig detangler, and a flat iron.

Left is what it looked like, right is what it looked like after I was done with it. It's actually wearable now.

I do the same thing. A low temp flat iron will really get rid of all the frizz.

I fix wigs up to some of my friends who aren't really hands on with the cosplay stuff. I wish I took a picture of the wig when I took it out of the plastic walmart shopping bag she gave it to me in. There was approx 30 small braids she put it into try to keep it from tangling more. 3 hours of just undoing the braids.

So, a while back, some people were talking about using fabric softener to make wigs less shiny. Does this actually work, and does anyone have any pix or tutorials?

I have an Arda wig in midnight blue, and I'd say it's not too close to Kisame's hair color irl. It could just be my monitor (though I compared with my phone and two other monitors before buying it), but the color leans towards a dark teal-blue compared to the stock photo Arda uses on their site.
The wig is at a friend's house right now so I can't take my own pictures, but the last 5 pictures in their gallery for the color are the most accurate to what I have in my opinion.

I don't own a wig in dark blue so I can't say, but just a heads up for the midnight blue color!

Most people say it doesn't work but that's because everyone rinses it out. You aren't supposed to. Make sure you don't use too much or it will just get greasy and gross though. Also it only makes a slight difference, but it allows talc (baby powder) to stick better, so using them together makes a big difference.

Yeah, >>6960615 is right. I just took out my color ring to compare, and you definitely made the right choice in ordering the dark blue. The midnight blue is much too green for Kisame.

How would I go about getting the right greaser look for this?
I have a lace front with a ventilated widows peak, but it is hard to make the strands stand that kind of outwards/upwards to give the silhouette rather than making it look slicked back,

Also, tips on making the hair look like it has lots of product without actually having to fuck with the wig too much. Should I just coat it with a thick layer hairspray or will that look weird?

I really don't know what they did to it since I personally don't handle returns. All I know is we got it in an envelope, and when we opened it, there was a cotton candy pink disaster shoved in there without even so much of any of it's original packaging.

Thanks guys! I was worried the dark blue might be a little too black or even purple but playing around with it more seems to tell me the color changes a bit depending on the lighting. I didn't get the midnight blue originally because I also thought it looked a little green but just got worried cause the lighting in my room at the time (at night) made it look awfully purple. I use Arda a lot, so I might just have to get a color ring for situations like this.
