Grimoire is still going strong. Wear what you like, it's not like most people are going to know what style you are wearing anyways.

>> No.6916227

I don't know why people are still very concerned if a particular niche style is still relevant. If you like the style i would think you at least follow the shop's style blogs to know what's up and pick up some inspiration from it. Grimoire (dollykei) and The Virgin Mary (cult party) are still around and their clothes are not brand specific as it is all vintage/thrifted minus their special printed socks/tights and some accessories.

Mori is a little different as it does have brands catered to the style but thrifting/diy is totally fine and encouraged.

I think mori is defined by a loose, flowy silhouette, even if you don't have a lot of layers on. Layers are more instantly recognizable as mori, of course, but you don't always have to have them. There aren't a lot of hard-and-fast rules in mori, but the one thing it should definitely never be is tight-fitting. Other than that, you should always aim for natural fabrics and just a natural look overall. Everything else is pretty much just a feeling. The mori girl checklist describes the right sort of atmosphere the style should have.

This. 0/100 troll.

Shall we change the subject? Do you think mori will ever become established enough to have communities and meetups the way lolita now does? Even in Japan it's still so niche that nothing like this exists outside of basically Tokyo, but we can dream, right?

What would you do at a mori meetup? What sorts of activities would be fun, thematically appropriate, and still possible while dressed in five layers topped off with a wool bolero and bunny mittens? Would everyone be required to bring an animal?

Not true. It's not bleeding-edge anymore, but it's very popular and established, especially as it's spread from the trend centers and out into the rest of the country. Every other new clothing brand you see springing up is mori-type fashion, and a lot of established ones have started doing mori-influenced clothes.

I live in a small town on the NW coast and mori fashion has become way more prominent in the last three years. It's even starting to supplant the faux-streetwear-but-still-kawaii style that was the biggest trend among the younger girls around here before. (80's-throwback style is still the most popular though.)

I guess my point was that while the clothes have obviously always been there, the forest imagery/subculture-y side of it that would foster communities and meet-ups seems to have died out compared to when mori was big? But definitely correct me if I'm wrong about that. Nowadays, I've just noticed that brands and so on are rarely still explicitly being called "mori girl," but I do know that the basics of the fashion continue to live on.

On a related note, I'm fascinated by the rise of Taobao mori in Western circles, maybe because they do cater to the name and not just the look.

I see your point, but I think you're overreacting. I'm not trying to change the definition of mori or make rules about it, but the look of it is pretty clear and I think that one particular outfit is an example of the mori influence on other fashion. It's not mori on its own. If she were wearing the same clothes with an Angelic Pretty skirt, nobody would be claiming that it was lolita.

Me too. All I've got besides the bag I posted before is a raincoat and a minidress. The dress isn't even really mori, although that one is among my favorites. (I wore it on New Year's Eve two years ago and when I got on the Metro with my friends, an absolutely stunning woman - stylin' outfit, bird-feather false eyelashes, gorgeous afro, plus she was like amazon-tall - came over to me just to tell me that she loved my dress. Made my night.)

I would love to buy a lot more of their stuff, not because it's cute and well-made but because they're one of the only brands I like who has a nice line of plus-size clothing (well, Japanese plus-size, which means it fits standard-size Westerners). It is so expensive though.

Why are there hardly any non-Japanese girls who aren't models that seem to do Mori well? There is like only one that I can think of that posts her pictures on the net.

Is it just because that Mori isn't as popular (yet hopefully!) or something?

All the non-Japanese girls who aren't models or anything that I always see trying to pull it off end up looking like bag ladies! If I am misinformed, does anyone know of girls online that pull it off well and can link to their blogs/tumblr/etc?

I'm looking at her blog and I don't see much mori, to be honest, so I'm not sure what you consider to be wearing the style well. There aren't a lot of mori girls with active blogs, though. In fact, to me, it seems like it used to be more popular a year or two ago.
