This is my last year. I only go at this point to meet up with friends from other states, but we either need to pick a different con to hang out at, or that'll be that. Most people in the group are of the same mind, but since we can't get a unanimous decision of where else to go, all the foot dragging has caused us to end up there again and again.

I'm done, though. The con has been slumping for years as the staff gets increasingly terrible and pushy. You can tell that the thing isn't run by people that legitimately want to hold a con, but just nerds bickering for authority within their little group.

Yep. These are the reasons why I don't want to go to Otakon this year. Didn't go last year since I was moving and I heard from my friends and the photos that it was bad. When Ice Cold Water Guy is pissed, you know when Otakon is bad. I really wanted to go too cause immediately following Otakon, I'm going to spend the next two years in grad school and that will take up a large amount of time for me. I should ask Soni about balancing grad school and Cons.

I think I'll go to New York City for SpringFestNY in March cause all my friends are probably going to that Con instead and that's during muh Spring Break.

Oh god I am kinda scared for Otakon, like the heat killed me one year and I was wearing time skip nami. I wore that outfit and was still sweating my tits off. I am surprised that I actually started to work on cosplays for the con early.

Iirc, the only fabric part of Solaire is the tunic bit. Even then, it's a solid rectangle (open at the sides) so there's really no sewing required. The emblem is usually fabric painted on. The shoulders are just feather pads.

Your biggest problem is a full ringmail shirt and leggings on top of the helmet... Those can be bought pre-made easily but prepare to drop some serious money on it. Were you planning on making the other armor pieces yourself?

The problem is that I don't believe you can have metal bits of armor on your costume at Otakon (I think), so I need them made from something else. The only part I'm making myself (so far) is the shield, estus flask and potentially a bonfire and summon sign ( I don't plan on moving too much in this costume). I'll look into it, but finding someone to make these pieces at this point is gonna be tough, and I scarcely have enough time to make what I'm doing right now.

His armor is basic shapes so you could honestly get away with craftfoam+modpodge or sheet plastic (styrene). Google a tutorial, there are lots. I'm saying this because it sounds like you've never worked with fiberglass before and... You probably don't know what you're getting yourself into, mate. As much as I hate to say it, you could be the crappiest Solaire and people who recognize it will still love you, so don't sweat it too much.

Best of luck to you, though. I just put down an obscene amount of money for the casting materials Artorias' armor and I've been linking chainmail for so long I've actually got definition in my forearms. DS really has the greatest armor sets.

The harbor is just a stone's throw away from the convention center and has a lot of good restaurants, I liked the pub and the tapas place. Most good photoshoots are held somewhere in the area around the outdoor fountains, between the harbor and the con.

The fountain area is a really great area to do photoshoots. And the area outdoor has a waterfall thing that was used as backdrop for the OP group 2 years ago. Really awesome.

As for places to eat, if you're not driving, there's a pretty good, small breakfast place near the convention center. I don't remember the name, but it's good stuff. There's a food court nearby, too.

Good eats? Lexington Market, but that's going to be a good 10 minute walk north of the convention center but you can't beat the cheap eats that they have there. Now if you got money to spend then go with Fogo de Chao which is a kick ass Brazilian steakhouse.

My personal favorite place to eat will always be Upper Deck Bar and Grill for the simple fact that this diner is open 24-7, close to the con and serves damn good, cheap food. Be forewarned that this place gets jam packed around 2-3am when all the bars, clubs and the con closes up
for the night.
