What do you do when you really love a style but look absolutely hideous in it? I really love sweet lolita, but I'm 5'8 and I feel like I look really awkward in it. I also have a pretty mature face, so I know I look amazing in gothic/classic. I've bought and sold tons of sweet stuff, because I love how it looks, but I hate how it looks on me when I get it. I really feel childish doing that. I feel like I should just give it up completely since I do look bad in it. Any suggestions?

I know usually making a sweet outfit but with much more mature colours can be a lot... easier on the wearer, but if you only want OTT sweet I guess you're just have to learn to make your face match with makeup or learn to not care.

I asked this on the old, dead thread sorry, but are there any motifs that are overdone/underdone in lolita jewelry?

Since it's your first pair, perhaps buy a cheap pair at a chemist or something. You might need to buy some more expensive glue, which you can then re-use, but it's possible that if it's your first time putting them on you might destroy them. If you're good to them, they can last for ages.

I'm a fan of bows. I feel like you can wear them with anything (casual or lolita) to feel feminine. They seem more like a staple lolita motif like crowns compared to specific foods or animals.

Most of the time jewelry looks cheap and poorly designed. You should worry more about making quality, pretty items more than doing something someone else has done.

Once my cheap pairs were lasting 4-5 wears without looking too gross I went for more expensive pairs which last a pretty long time if you treat them right! There are so many types of lashes out there and they can be hard to put on if you aren't used to it- I'd personally go for some half lashes at first which are much easier to put on than full ones!

Can someone explain to me the difference between Dolly Kei and Classic Lolita?

>> No.6878909

>>6878886
Dolly kei is a lot more complex than classic lolita. Classic lolita tends towards a defined silhouette, where there is none for dolly kei. Classic lolita dresses should follow the "rules" regarding shape and style. Dolly kei has no set shape, you can wear long dresses or shorter dresses. Dolly kei relies more on layering, has a more pronounced emphasis on textures, uses more jewel tones, and the idea is that you look like you are from an Eastern European fairy tale. Dolly kei also uses more outlandish or over the top accessories, like that one Grimoire shop girl who wore a ship as a headdress. Hope that helps.

If you want to do OTT try to get something custom made or altered, it sounds like you could rock it but would need to get a custom dress so that you could get something that suited you. If you aren't super set on prints, then commission something inspired by AP's more ornate dresses like the Soap Bubble OP and maybe go more like OTT hime/sweet-classic, you can still have all the accessories but might need a more mature looking hairstyle/makeup to get it to work.

Would anyone give me information on how accessories work with Angelic Pretty?

I was looking forward to buying this necklace from the Dreamy Baby Room series for a fairy kei outfit, but they didn't release it with the rest of the set. The Kera ad calls it the "Dreamy Baby Room Star Toy Necklace" and the price is listed as TBA.

I've never gotten AP accessories directly from them, so I don't know how they are normally released (Do they stagger it?); but I looked into how they released the Drained Cherry series and it seems they put out the accessories at the same time as the print.

Does this mean they ended up not releasing the necklace for this print? Are they just behind schedule releasing it or is this normal?

I'm just wondering if I should give up and spend my money on something else or if I should wait for them to put it out. Thanks for any info you can offer.

Usually you just kinda guess what colors will work for you, although it helps to know if you're warm or cool toned. Style is also guess and check, and play around with the wig until it works.

As for places, that depends on a lot of things. If you have a small head you'll probably love Taobao since you can get lots of really nice natural looking wigs for cheap. However if, like me, you have a giant head and a lot of hair you aren't going to fit Taobao wigs. I personally love Arda because they make wigs for larger heads, and they're in the US so if it's in stock you get it really fast.

Okay, newb questions time. So I regularly torture myself by searching items I want on YahooOku/Mbok, but I've never bought anything. This is partly because I've never done so and don't know how, and partly because of money. Only now I've found something I want, and I have the excess money to buy it, but my lack of understanding on how to purchase is preventing me from doing so.

I know you need a shopping service, but I've never used the ones I've seen recommended. I don't wanna just pick one and end up with bad service or the most expensive fees, or pick one that used to be good and now isn't, etc.

That is super stunning - good luck Anon!

My advice for auctions, be it ebay or whatever, is to wait until 5 minutes before the auctions ends, then watch it carefully and place your MAXIMUM bid anywhere from 30-5 seconds before the end of the auction if it doesn't go too high in the last five minutes.

If you bid too early, not only does it tip off other people that you are interested in the auction (the number of bidders will show as having gone up)
but also your autobid will battle it out with someone else's autobid too early and push the price up higher. They won't increase their max bid if they feel secure that they have the item and so you can usually outbid them at the last second.

Having said that, I don't know what the processing time is on fromjapan, because with ebay it's instant, so you might want to test that on a few minor auctions (socks or accessories) that won't cost you too much if you win. If you place a bid and it is too late, try placing your final bid a little earlier until you find out the window that works for you.

Best of luck!

Thanks Anon! :D I think I could make something like this work.
Would it be too OTT to work in florals through accessories and stuff though? I like rococco silhouettes and if I went for a block coloured dress I feel I could work in my favourite patterns (stripes and florals) in accessories if I could match the colours well enough.

Pic related, I'm looking at things like these in parasols in a light green colourway (the stripes are much lighter). There's also a matching purse.

Specifics of what I'm looking for:
- lace up (I've got smallish ankles)
- small heel
- can be any height (ankle, mid calf, etc)
- suitable for a sweet/classic wardrobe (think IW.)

I have considered some on Bodyline's website but I'm trying to move away from lolita-specific shoes.

I've tried most brick and mortar stores I know of and have had no luck. I'm resorting to online shopping now.
I'm roughly a size 39 and I am located in Australia if that helps.

I meet my current boyfriend through Lolita and while he claims he prefers Classic, on the chance few times I've worn sweet or bitter sweet he would get really excited and make requests. Like wearing circle lenses to make my eyes appear larger (I already have bugeyes). He also makes comments on how we should have sex after meetups. And he likes to play the 'father' role. I recall one time when we were walking around the mall he kept teasing me... saying we should go to the Father Daughter dance together.
I think the worst part about this is... I'm not sure if I'm against it or not. I guess the BTB secrets make me apprehensive... but if I didn't know about the hate from the community... I think I'd be all for it.

Looking for some wig advice.

I wore my first classic coord at a convention recently and I'd ordered a new wig. I needed to cut the bangs I was going to get a cosplaying friend to help because I haven't cut wigs before, but I ran out of time and had to do it the night before the con. I looked at a couple of tutorials but they weren't incredibly helpful, so I just cut the bangs straight across with fabric scissors. The result was a very blunt, square fringe that looks unflattering, pic related.

How would I go about fixing this, if possible? I did like this wig before I butchered it so I'd like to know if its salvageable.

I felt the same before. All I can say is do it. You don't even have to do a father/daughter thing if you aren't comfortable, just start out as a younger and more innocent you, to 'dip your toes in' so to speak. I don't intend to do that. That will be so embarrassing.

You want to pick a nice restaurant for the ambience so surely it'll be pricey. But I may only order a coke and I don't know if I'll give a bad first impression...sorry I've never been to a meet. Or would it be better to not go? I don't want the local girls to feel bad for picking a nice place either.

What kind of lolita can one where to a restaurant with a smart casual dress code? I'm mainly considering classic lolita so would Mary Magdalene dresses be all right for that kind of dress code. How about something more like Krad Lanrete. Would an involved print such as Mozarabic Chant be too much?

Out of lolita, the only clothes I've pretty much worn for smart casual are dress shirts, ties and trousers or little black dresses.

Hey guys, I need some help. I recently bought some shoes for dressier events and I tried to pick out something that I can wear with toned-down lolita, and something to specifically wear with my mozrabic chants.

However I don't really know if this can work with a lolita coord. I can't wear anything high due to my shitty balance, my feet are large (At least a LL) and brand doesn't really make LL sizes, and I think Bodyline's shoes are so gross. The only ones I am even thinking about are those T-strap heels with a bow(274?), and the biggest size is a size too small.

I'd pair it with something dark and jewel-toned, but with brown accents. As long as there are enough elements of rich brown in other parts of the outfit. I can't think of any specific dresses or prints, but if you feel confident with decorating, you could add small things like brown ribbon, trim or buttons to a plain piece. Alternatively AP and IW have released a lot of pastel prints which also have brown instead of black as the darkest colour.

Perhaps try it with a black waistcoat or other waist accessory to seperate it from a skirt of a different colour? And brown shoes or bag so it doesn't look out of place.

Leather is somewhat flexible so with simple wear it might be okay. 1cm is quite a bit, though.

Take it to a shoe repair shop. They will stretch the shoe you need more room in.

If you cannot get to a shop then take two ziplock bags, fill one with water and close, put full bag inside the other, place in shoe, put shoe in freezer.

The expanding water should stretch your shoe.

Yeah, I was thinking that it *could* be possible but I don't think it's worth the risk or the possible damage to my feet.

I've heard of those methods before but I sadly don't think they'll stretch enough.

Does anyone know how different brands hairbands fit? Do they all fit comfortably over a wig? Or will they be suffocating your head?

Of course, the most of the cuffs are under 'New' as well anyways.

It is lovely. I just don't know what to do with green, plus I'm really pale so it's easy to make me look ill. I got the black one because I know where I stand with that, haha. I'm definitely feeling kuro with this one.

I agree, there are some pieces I want to buy that I have no clue what to do with, but I'm sure by the time I find them, I'll have figured it out.

Thank you! I'm very excited, haha. As soon as I heard there was a sale, I just went and threw money at them.

the qipao element is in the dress itself. see the collar. also the print is designed after a chinese holiday about rabbits and mooncakes. you'll probably never want to wear it except for that holiday. but qi lolita, like wa lolita, is hard to pull off without looking stupid

I have had luck with width stretching but not length...

Most of them are pretty small, so if you have a largeish head and a wig they may be pretty tight.
