ANIME NORTH SPEED DATING THREAD! Who did it? Who didn't? Was it fun? STORIES!

>> No.6874364

Are these things ever not a colossal failure?

>> No.6874382

It wasn't very well organized

>> No.6874400

They had us do a survey first, and then they shut down everything between dates to have us fill out a feedback sheet for the preceding date. I didn't time it, but it felt like we got about 90 seconds per date because of all the paperwork. The survey had questions like "On a scale of 1 to 7, how afraid are you that you're now too old to get married and have kids?" That wasn't the exact wording, but they literally asked stuff like that. A lot of questions about how happy/sad our success/failure at the event made us feel. (They were researching how well people predict their future emotions dependent on their attachment patterns.)

I was sent the wrong email address for one of my matches, because they decided to have people scribble a contact email on their sheet instead of just asking to send us the same email address that they'd used to pre-register with.

And we didn't get our matches until a day later. If I'd known that, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time.

tl;dr It was psych research masquerading as speed dating.

Are there any cool videos online? Except the one series.

This. It was also really hard to hear the other person in the rooms because they were so tiny. The questions were also EXTREMELY judgmental. Like 4 different questions asking you to basically rate them on 10 for attractiveness. I asked for the two names I marked as favorite after and one wasn't even right. Really badly run and it was more paperwork than anything.

They should have just done something like, list your top 3 anime/manga/video games.

>you like cartoons?
>me too
>let's date

>> No.6874468

I didn't get in. Though, by the sound of it, I am glad I never got accepted. We had to write down a name and number and availability in case a spot opened up.

We never got any call or email notification if a spot was even open or a confirmation that we either were or not accepted. We had to be told the bad news when we asked in person.

They really need to do the comic-con style of geek speed dating.

But there are so many different types of cartoons, anon.

>> No.6874527

I could have had a spot. Sounds like a good thing that I never went.

It was terribly unorganized. Didn't realize we had to sign in so early (friends and I arrived 20 minutes early and were still too late), So we got pushed back to the later one, but only my other girl friend and I could go because the male spots were full. After taking the pre-dating survey that included questions about our menstrual cycle, we were assigned seats that were back to back in a circle. The guys sat facing us in an outer circle, and everyone was right next to each other. When the dating commenced, you had 2 measly minutes to get to know your date well enough to determine whether or not you were attracted to them, and preform a post-date survey on each one. The questions were hard to answer since you only had enough time to ask every single person the same basic questions (where are you from, how long have you been coming to AN,ect.), and you couldn't hear a damn thing since the room was so loud due to over-crowding. There were 13 dates, and 11 of them seemed like more or less desperate weebs. the other 2 were pretty cool guys. I completed my post-dating survey to get a $5 gift card for Starbucks, and they asked me who I felt the strongest connection with, and I couldn't even remember any of their names.
tl;dr, would not waste my time on that nonsense again unless perpetually more intoxicated.

I wasn't sure what to expect for sure, but they gave my spot away because I didn't get there soon enough. Apparently it happened to a lot of people.

Not surprisingly I haven't heard any true love stories about it.

>questions about our menstrual cycle

How lovely.

I heard this was run by someone going for her PHD in psychology. So maybe this was all just some experiment to see how many desperate lonely weebs she could torment and the lengths they would be willing to go to>

Going to this event half wasted would be kind of fun though. At least you got 1 free coffee from starbucks

They just stole the Geek Love logo. They have nothing to do with the Sci-Fi Speed Dating guys from the TLC/web show.

It would be, but there's still better things to do at a con whilst half-wasted

>>6875171
She does, it was put on by U of T students and they told us when we signed up that we'd be answering these questions for them, I just didn't think they were going to ask about when my last period was, and how regular I am.
Also, I've been talking to a couple of the guys I was "matched" with on fb, apparently the women there were just as bad as the men. One guy said he'd "rather eat a mouth full of gravel" than talk to them for longer than 2 minutes.

who actually asks that?? holy shit.

>Speed Dating at Cons

I've done this before. All the girls were nice, they just thought I was too young. The one who looked around my age turned out to be underage and I ended up learning later that she was batshit insane.

I feel like as a guy who's 19 who'd do this type of thing for fun, everyone else there would be like 20 or older, so I'd understand why the girls would think you're too young

I think I was 18 when I did it. Yeah most people there were 25ish or older. Guys were even more so, seeing as most of them were stereotypical neckbeards
