Makeup basics are a must but everyone also needs a lesson in how to share the hallways and respect personal space. Same shit most anime nerds need to learn, but it's worse at huge meetups where nobody seems aware of their surroundings.

How do you do it?

>separate tumblr run by high quality cosplayers (cifera, cowbuttcrunchies, hanyaan, etc) with these resources online, similar to homestuckcosplayhelp but more moderated and more tutorial-oriented

I agree with general etiquette for shitty fans that has already been mentioned, but I also would love to see some training for those who don't like Homestuck on how to not be a cock ass about it. having less dumb fans would help but I still feel like people would be dicks anyway because it is not animoo/is very popular/has younger fans they like getting rises out of. Giving them a chill pill would be nice.

I wasn't really feeling this outfit too much though, but I thought it was just okay enough. Needs a lot of work no doubt, but it was the last day of the con, so I figure, why not.

Gotta get out of those jeans and find looser pants. Maroon scrubs probably, right? And instead of just black Converse, any other kind of running shoe that's all black will suffice?

Everyone has to at least think about the grey sleeves/stockings/bodysuits.

Anyone who uses the "but it's about committing to the cosplay" argument is not allowed to cosplay any of the grey-skinned ones.

I don't even like Homestuck and I've heard that argument a billion times. It's a shitty fucking argument because your makeup ruins other people's costumes and makes the hotels mad as fuck. If you really want to insist on make-up have a good fucking reason and make sure you seal that shit properly.

I mean, at the very least be smart about it. My policy is; if painted, don't go to the dealers room or artists alley. And if you do, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. Look only, only touch if you're going to actually buy (AND EVEN THEN). You're ruining peoples merchandise, and need to stop.

After the photoshoot on Saturday too, those who wound up staying in the area had to clean up after everyone else because there were bottles and trash everywhere. I was so ashamed, I'm just glad some Homestucks were decent enough.

I'd say it's definitely superior on the arms over ben nye. There's very minimal ruboff or transfer if you seal properly, whereas ben nye fades quickly even with sealing in my experience. I actually like ben nye for the face, though, because of its opacity and even application. Kryolan can be streaky.

Ahh, christ, oh well. I went for the lace-up boots because I went for short shorts instead of knee-length shorts, I just kinda felt like it'd look weird/too leggy if I went with shoes rather than boots. My general goal was to wear pretty much the same as what he wears, but in cuts/styles more suitable to a female character. My horn actually broke during the photoshoot which was a huge bummer, but my boyfriend managed to reattach it with hairpins- just wound them around the hairband so that they were sticking straight up, then jammed the horn onto them. It actually worked really well, feels really secure now.

Hey HSG, I'm working on a sprite cosplay for SDCC and I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on which methods worked best for the tail, whether it's ignoring it completely and just wearing pants or going all out and sewing a wrap that covers your legs but renders you immobile (to be used for photoshoots only). Pic related. I'm tossing some ideas around for what I want to do and I'd like to hear your input.

Sprite OP here. Comparing the pictures, I think the wrap looks better when the person is sitting as opposed to standing, but that's probably a design I can tweak, so I'll mess around with that. The issue I'm having is that it doesn't seem like your legs have any leeway to move when they're bound like that, meaning that walking through a con hallway in a wrap tail would be impossible. I'll definitely sew it for a private shoot since that's closest to canon accurate, but as far as motion-friendly alternatives go, are pants kind of the only other option? I think I remember seeing a Tavrisprite on the boards who hooked a chiffon trail behind her, but that's all I'm coming up with as far as non-photoshoot tails go.

Alright, need some help with Dave...

The aviators I use for him are just typical aviator sunglasses, but the lenses are very reflective so they're basically like mirrors and a few cosplayers have stood in front of me to do so, not that I mind.

Should I go for more darker lenses?

Also... I was at a HS photoshoot on Sunday as GT Dave, and I saw another GT Dave in the crowd with iShades, but they were shaped rather oddly... upon further inspection they were most likely the iShades from that Akunijiscos (I can never get the name right off the top of my head, I'm sure y'all know which store I'm talking about though) store.

I probably should have went up to them and asked about their iShades, but I wasn't really feeling well that day so I just took off pretty quickly.

So, my question is... does anyone here have those shades? How's the quality?

And finally, if I were to make my own iShades, would I just stick Apple logo stickers onto some dark aviator sunglasses? I wouldn't know how to engrave the symbols onto the glasses and make them stand out, but that store does have iShades like that and if they're good enough then I'd consider getting them.

i've tried sticking the apple logo stickers from when i got an ipod touch onto my aviators-- it didn't go very well since my stickers were a bit big for my shades and the surface was curved so the stickers puckered and didn't sit flat.
i think if you got/printed your own smaller stickers and clipped them a bit to follow the curve of your lenses it would probably work.

probably not, unfortunately. it's been two years since i touched those stickers but iirc they're definitely opaque. you might get better visibility with translucent or thinned down glass paint, maybe? use opaque stuff for the outlines and the translucent stuff to fill in the apple.
this involves drawing it on yourself though, i don't know how steady your hand is.

well actually depending on where the shades sit on your face and how big the apple sticker is, you might not have too much of a problem? bc from what i see the center of the shades isn't directly over your eyes, so you might be able to get away with just wearing your shades a bit lower on your face for visibility over the tops of the stickers and just sliding them back up your nose for photos. but yeah taking them off and putting them back on is always a good idea if the stickers sit in your vision too much.

I mean, while Dave's usually depicted with aviator sunglasses, in the comic, his glasses look like there's only one bridge between the lens, while actual aviator sunglasses have two, the extra one being on top. Whereas these iShades only have the one bridge which I'd want to hope would be more true to the comic, if not for the unfortunate size.

Do you have a picture of some aviator sunglasses to compare? Pardon the questions, I've just been really curious about these glasses and I want to make sure I can improve upon Dave (since there seems to be a stigma on Daves, or Striders in general, so why not go the extra mile and go for the details like better shades and swords and the like)

Depends on the makeup you're using, but I use Mehron Starblend in Monster Grey. Granted, it's likely a bit dark for anything other than Kryolan, considering both Snazaroo light grey and the Ben Nye mix people seem to favour are lighter than Kryolan's basic grey.
