Hi /cgl/

First time posting so I hope I'm in the right place.

I want to make a lady bane costume like the one in the picture but I'm not very clued up on sewing or how to even go about this.

I was thinking of getting a fitted tankini (or something similar) and cutting the fabric to similar sizes and sewing it altogether. Would this work?

Any tips for learning to sew/ first time costume making?

Any help is appreciated.

These types of cropped bustier-esque tops are really popular these days, so you shouldn't have a prob finding them. The link is for a top that has the same construction as the top and would probably be good to build on. They've usually got some support to them so they're not just flimsy shirts. That should probably work if you're just looking to build on something.
