So I feel like cosplay is the new gateway for "models" to try and reach some kind of fame they otherwise wouldn't get by simply doing lingerie photo shoots ..... Anyone else notice or feel this way?

>> No.6824674

kind of

cosplay is basically for the Beta girls of the "good looking enough to attract some attention" spectrum

Alpha girls make real money of it, get successful careers

Beta girls start cosplaying to cater to Beta nerds' fantasies / dress in silly costumes they have to pretend to like (sometimes) and then spend nights on facebook/twitter/tumbler begging for people to like them and to talk about them

really, it's so sad to be a Beta girl

>>6824674
I only know of two cosplayers in the U.S who you could actually say make any money from cosplaying

but yes I have noticed a lot of new cosplay girls coming out of nowhere and they just so happen to be "models" too

cosplay modeling is a thing in Japan so I guess it was just a matter of time before it happened here?

>> No.6824773

>>6824755
Were you one of those people who bought the autographed photo of that Joker cosplayer who begged for money?

No? Well, that's why cosplay modeling will never be a thing in the West.

In Japan, cosplay == profession; in here == a means of getting attention / socializing / a hobby.

>> No.6824800

>>6824773
Why use him as an example though? I can name a bunch of female cosplayers who regularly sell autographed prints and make money from it and could even go as far to say that some girls here in the U.S actually cosplay as a profession

>> No.6824811

>>6824800
Really depends on what you consider "cosplaying as a profession".
Being a booth babe is not cosplaying as a profession.
Selling prints isn't a lot of girls main income. Either way, prints sales doesn't make cosplay someones profession.
Commissioning can make the right numbers but you would be a costumer or prop maker, not cosplayer.

>> No.6824812

>>6824800
Well, because he was one of the most successful cosplayers ever, no?

You should buy his autographed photo though. I can give you a link where you can order some merchandise if you want. Please.

>> No.6824817

>>6824773
You know >>6824755 is half right. Japanese cosplayers have sold roms with photos of their costumes for years before selling prints over here became a thing. Now does that make them professional cosplay models imo? No. It just seems more like something that some of them do for fun/to make some extra cash.

And hell if some girl over here sees more opportunity in becoming a spokes model for video games, comics etc well shes kinda smart because she is making herself have a better chance at being noticed.

>> No.6824823

>>6824682
Yaya doesn't live off just her print sales. She sells wings and cat-ears. As for her being a guest, Majority of the time things are comp, which isn't payment. So I really don't consider that being making money from cosplaying. It could easily be labeled as making money from modeling. The other I am guessing is Nigri.

>> No.6824830

>>6824823
Well obviously if only one person is doing it then it must be a "thing". I'm glad someone made a thread about this.

>> No.6824843

>>6824823
You couldnt even really say Nigri makes a living off her modeling either because she lives with her folks still and any real cost of living is past onto them. If she wasnt in that situation I doubt she could life off poster sales and the odd spokesmodel gig.

And she represents the cosplay community in america, let's not forget. (She was in King of Nerds.)

King of the who?
(but seriously, that show fucking bombed)

>> No.6824873

>>6824846
Is that such a bad thing? When people see her on a TV show they dont see all the crap that the community knows. They just see a thin woman with comically large tits in a nicely made costume. (I say nice because the average person doesnt notice flaws in people costume.) I would rather that be a representation of what the cosplay community is than some fat weeaboo with greasy hair. Yes shes not the ideal candidate but shes better then some of the shit I see running around animu cons.

1.65 million according to the released ratings. And that was for the cosplay ep and excludes international syndication ratings and internet streams. Obviously its not that much but claiming no one watched it is a bit extreme.

>She's the most well known and Just today saw an article that labeled her as "Most famous" cosplayer ever type deal
>article

Well of course an article is going to say that. They have to justify to their audience why they are even interviewing/writing about some random chick. You would rather interview someone 'famous' then some random.
