Didn't see one.
Makeup, hair products, whatever.

I'll start. What's a really good brand for mascara? I've been using Lancôme, and it's good for a month or so, but then it starts clumping really bad.

>> No.6798639

I'm sure others will have better mascaras, but recently I've been using Jordana Best Lash Extreme which works well for me. It's only 3 dollars at Walgreens and I can get a couple layers without disgusting clumps.

Though it is a cheap mascara and isn't waterproof at all...

Anyone have a good cream eyeliner for the bottom of the eye that is waterproof/WILL NOT SMUDGE?? I currently use ELF eyeliner, and while it's not bad it's not the best. I always have to check it to make sure it's not smudging and such

instead of using a cream liner for that, I would highly recommend an ink style brush. My favourite is Buxom's Pen & Ink in PS - Black.

Change the position of the brush on your eyeline. Point for thin, side/edge of "brush" for thicker. Personally, I use the pen-type for getting the lines where I want them, then go over it with a liquid liner that's more opaque. That way, I'm less likely to make a mistake with the liquid, as I have a guide (because liquid liner is a pain to correct/redo a lot of the time).

I recently bought Maybelline Colossal waterproof mascara (the one with the butt-ugly yellow tube) on a whim and holy shit it makes my eyelashes look like I came straight from a Sakizou drawing. In most of the reviews I looked up later it looks clumptastic, but I think those girls are just applying it wrong because it hasn't clumped on me yet.
I've only owned it for a few weeks, though. Hopefully it won't dry out like OP's Lancôme one.

>> No.6798723

>>6798716
Sadly all of Maybelline's mascaras are pretty dry form the beginning, and they dry out quickly. They're good for the price though, but if you want something that'll last and give amazing results, just shell out the money for a Dior mascara. I've never tried anything better, and I use it on all my clients (I'm a makeup artist).

What, the part about shaving making hair grow in thicker/stiffer? Yeah, I'm amazed how pervasive a myth that is. I believed it myself for years and years.

Shaved hair gets cut at the midsection of the strand, which makes it FEEL stiffer to the touch than a newly-grown-in hair (which has a thinner, tapered end). Or, as someone succinctly put it: if that were true, then wouldn't balding guys all be frantically shaving their hair to make it grow back?

If there's a store near you that has a Dior counter you can go there and tell them you're thinking of buying mascara x but you're not sure it's your color or etc. etc. Any salesgirl worth her salt will immediately offer to put some on you and/or walk you through products that might be suited to you.

I might know the issue. You might have milia. They're tiny bumps that appear on the dark circles and when you put make up over them, they get more noticeable. Use a gentle exfoliant under your eyes and use a lighter weight make up. It should help get rid of that sand texture.

I'd think that if it isn't genetic (which you can't fix...yet) then being consistent with keeping your pores clean from anything that would make them expand would eventually yield smaller pores as your skin sheds and the healthier skin is able to replace the old skin.

exfoliation would help speed this process up
but I think that if anything is actually going to work, it's going to take a very long time.

Application is always consistent and it doesn't settle into my fine lines. I don't get any oilier or dryer skin, at least not that I have noticed. I always have to do a full facial oil blotting half way through the day no matter what I wear.

When you use it on blemishes, the trick is to not blend the entire application; dab the area of the blemish and then blend around it into the rest of your skin. Not the anon you're replying to, but I too suffer from horrible dark circles (deep set eyes, very pale skin, German). You can get injections of fillers in the under eye area. If I remember right, they help fill in the layer of fat you may be missing and prevent your underlying blood vessels from showing through so strongly.

My non-surgical routine that I've found to work well is use an eyeshadow primer under your eye (this is more for fine lines), use an under eye highlighter (I use bareMinerals Stroke of Light), then I put on my foundation and blend it under my eyes. Finally, I use MACs Select Moisturecover concealer on top. It's not perfect, but it's the best coverage I've found without having it look cakey.

Maybelline eyeshadows are okay, they're not awesome but they do the job. Same thing with Maybelline mascaras, they tend to clump a bit though so you should look into getting a lash brush, they're really cheap, so you can "brush" through your lashes after mascara to separate them. I have to ask though, why did you buy three mascaras? Mascara has a short shelf life, so it goes bad in a few months. You might not have enough time to use up it all before it goes bad.
For the Revlon eyeliner pen, I tend to not buy liquid eyeliner pens, just because they contain less product and dries up faster than bottle liquid liners, but each to their own.
I've heard good things about CoverGirl mascaras, I've never tried one myself, but I heard they're similar to MaxFactor, and they're completely okay for the price.

K guys, I don't know what is going one with my face lately. I'm a fairly healthy person and recently (about a month ago) I decided to cut out absolutely all pop and sugary drinks, and increased the amount of water I drink everyday. I have about 5-6 cups of water a day, and usually work in 2 cups of tea in there. I rarely drink juice and when I do it's either orange or 100% juice blend of blueberry, cherry, cranberry, raspberry or something of the mix. Anyway, getting to my point, I have always had incredibly nice skin when it came to pimple and I'd literally get maybe one or two. But since I've been drinking so much water, my face is totally breaking out! I mean like I literally never had this many pimples in my life. It was a really good sale, and they were less than half price. I know I'm always going to use mascara (if I'm going to wear makeup, I'll wear mascara at the very least), and I don't plan to open them all at once so I'm not too worried about them going bad before I get a good use out of them.

Mascara at the very least. A good beginner one is Maybelline Great Lash (I personally don't like it, but it's fine for complete beginners). Maybe an eyeliner pencil (since liquid and gel are a bit harder to apply), and a tinted lip balm or a lip gloss.

Depending on how much you want to wear, I would also throw in a BB cream or tinted moisturiser, a blush, and an eyeshadow you can just throw on for a sweep of colour.

My everyday necessities are Missha M Perfect cover BB cream, Maybelline Eye Studio gel eyeliner, Revlon GrowLucious mascara, and Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm.

I bought these the other day because I got a good deal on them. PF hasn't always been the best for me, so I was a bit skeptical. However, the second I applied some to my eyelids, I was hooked. My old eyeliner used to smudge after using my eyelash curler, but this stays. This also has lasted over 12 hours with being outside, inside, and even a nap.

If you are in the market for new eyeliner and want some different colors to try out, I would strongly recommend this.

Just a minor correction, products with 'growth serum' in them actually strengthen your lashes, as opposed to make them grow longer. yeah, no they didn't. when your arm hair is allowed to grow, it gets lighter for a few reasons like light bleaching from the sun, and the taper of each hair making them seem transparent. when you shave any hair, you cut it off bluntly at the surface of the skin. when the hair starts growing back, all the little blunt hairs seem darker because you're looking at the thickest part of the hair as it comes out.

if you've ever broken out from something containing wax or waxy substances steer clear of Dermablend.

The Quick Fix one is great for using on dry flaky skin around the eye area if you have especially dark circles. It's as opaque as it gets. I wouldn't recommend it for use in areas you break out, though.

I have a good amount of concealers that work well with blemish prone skin some have matte finishes some have dewy finishes.

Before I knew Jack Shit about skincare products I ended up buying some moisturizer that contained mineral oil- I have a fuckton of these weird little clogged pores... they look like bigger blackheads but don't have heads, they are not able to be popped. I wouldn't go a whole year without getting one, no way. Personally, I have super thick hair and I need a trim every month and a half or so, because my hair just goes crazy otherwise. Your hair looks pretty fine, so you probably wouldn't need to get it cut as often as that. But every few months, at the very least. And yeah, those probably are split ends if you've already gone a year without a trim. I'd go to a hairdresser to get it fixed up the first time, but if you're short on cash, it wouldn't be hard for you to maintain your hair by yourself after that.

You are a pretty girl but that eyeliner is completely off and ruining your look. It's not well done but you've already said that in another post - but aside from that, it isn't the shape/style you should be going for with your eye shape. Watch this:

http://youtu.be/vomGICiQoPc

And watch like all of his videos because he is really good and easy to duplicate for beginners.

Just from a quick observation, your liner is not close enough to your lashes, you can even see a gap of skin between where you lashes are and your liner starts. Also the liner underneath is just pulling your eyes down and I'd imagine you'd look 100x better without any at all over what you've got on in that photo.

Just play around with it, watch some videos, you'll get it.

Also I think your hair is lovely as is and you don't need a tan IMO.

- Foundation or BB cream or whatever you like applied with a good brush (even just a nice mineral powder foundation. I like to use a kabuki brush and stipple it on. Don't be too heavy handed with this)
- Try apply your liner thinner and wing the ends. Don't line beneath you eye with black. Try a brown colour instead and highlight toward the inner corners of your eyes with a light eyeshadow (beige/gold/pearl colours)
- Learn to fill your brows with some eye shadow and an angled brush. For me I could do just this and nothing else and feel like I look really polished. Eyebrows are everything to me!
- Your hair look fairly nice, just flat. If you can figure out how to volumise it, or get some layers, that should hopefully help?

Is probably right in saying that you're probably just not used to it. I don't wear eyeshadow often and I feel like it's so overdone when I do. Either that, or wear mascara alone, without eyeliner. Since eyeliner's function is to make your lashes more lush, mascara alone should also do the trick. Try a mascara specifically made for volume otherwise.

Bumping!

I've decided its time to start caring about my appearance more, so I'm doing some online shopping for make-up and things.
I've got plenty of mascara and eyeliner so I don't care about that. Got lots of other stuff as well, but I'm just gonna list what I'm after.

Does the price and brand matter -a lot- when it comes to eyeshadows, concealers, blush and lip gloss?
Eyeshadow in particular is not something I will ever wear besides cosplay, so if I can just get away with the stuff I already have (that I paid around £3 for) thats cool.

Also looking to buy skin creams. I've had to deal with a bad case of dermatitis on my left cheek for the last year. It's slowly disappearing, but it's made me realise that I oughta take a little better care of my skin, keeping blemishes and wrinkles away. What do I need to look for in order to keep a 'young' look on my face? Creams and brands needed.

Finally I have extremely dark bags under my eyes. It's part of my genes unfortunately, but is there someway to make them stand out less, other than surgery and concealer? I've just purchased a Garnier Roll-on under-eye concealer after a friend recommended it, but if there is something out there that can remove them permanently (in time), I will be super happy. If not, oh well.

In general, if there are any things that can help keep my skin looking nice and clean, cream or not, please mention them!

Thank you in advance, and sorry if all of this has been asked a thousand times.

You can get away with cheaping out on eyeshadow, especially if you have a decent primer. Lip gloss is also usually fine to go cheap on, if you're not looking for any huge colour payoff. I'm always a little iffy on buying cheap concealers because it's one of those things that can break you out like hell if it's an inferior product. I like to buy nice blush, too, because I find the cheap stuff tends to break me out, but if you're not acne-prone, you might be fine.

I've worked on a few people with ideal "not too dry, not too oily" kind of skin with small pores and whose skin does not cause makeup to oxidize and whose skin doesn't really need much priming. And I've worked on people with dry, flaky skin with large pores whose skin requires a lot of priming.

Try winged eyeliner, and only on the top. Honestly, it's a very flattering shape and you can make small adjustments to it to make it work one almost any face.
Don't do your liner so thick, and since your complexion is light, try softer colours like grey/charcoal, navy, and dark brown.
There are hypoallergenic mascaras that, when applied properly, should not make your eyes itch at all. You should try waterproof mascara, since they're less likely to get in your eyes if they start watering; make sure to take it off completely at night, though, otherwise that could damage your eyes, especially if you wear contacts. Also, make sure to never share mascara with someone else, and never keep an opened one longer than 3 months.

To be honest, the hair and skin thing are both subjective. I do suggest getting layers around your face, because the added volume will soften things out. Soft, side-swept bangs would also be a good addition. You should also try styling your hair so it has more texture and a bit of a wave to it.

Pic related, except make the bangs longer, especially at the end.

I keep playing around with my hair when it's washed and with my straighteners, but I can't seem to get anywhere close to it. Are there any hair gurus here willing to help me out? Line only your top lid, keep it close to the lash line. I have droopy stoner eyes like you and just lining the top with either a wing or going a bit thicker at the end makes them look way less droopy. Lining the bottom will just make your eyes look droopier.

Is Revlon any good? It is just a drugstore bran but its on sale so why not try it, you know
If it is,what would you recommend?

It's slightly parted to the side, the side with the least hair is combed back.

I hope you have nice thick hair.

That makes sense, thank you. I've been playing around with side partings for a while and still couldn't get the look right, but that clears it up.

I do have thick hair, I just hope I can tame it in time for the event. Do you think I should bring hairspray with me or will that look not require me topping it up?

If you want to go the cream blusher route, I like using Lioele Cheek Beam Blusher in Baby Pink. It stays on longer and you can also put it on the lips too.

Quit lining your bottom lid or if you feel you must, line it in a lighter color like gray or light brown and for your top lid you might want to think of trying a very subtle wingtip pattern to make them look like they tun up more instead of down. Also for eyeshadow you're going to want to get a neutral color pallet as browns will make your eyes pop and as you have fair skin, won't make you look as pale as something like dark eyeshadow in blacks. Also have you tried different mascaras because I always recommend mascara but don't do it at the cost of comfort because that will just make your eyes water/cause you to rub at them and mess up the make-up and make you look worse anyway. You're also going to want to get a dusty pink lipgloss or tinted lipbalm. Your current lip color is great for your face so you just want to bring it out a bit more so for you just a lipgloss or tinted lip balm would be best (kind of like this color in the picture). Then lastly, you have a great eyebrow shape but they're a bit thin/light so you may want to play them up a very light eyebrow pencil (even a brown eyeshadow will work with a slanted brush). And your complexion is great so if you want to do a blush or bronzer, make them very subtle. After that it's just typical contouring stuff.

My recommendation for your hair may be confusing but I'll try to explain it as best as I can: What you're going to want to do as it currently looks like your current hair color doesn't have much dimension to it is find a slightly brighter, honeyish shade of blonde and get highlights of those. Make sure it's pretty close to your actual hair color because for you it's best to go subtle. You almost want to have to squint and be actually looking for them to be able to notice that they're there. Also get a mousse, circle brush and blow dryer if you don't already have one and fluff that shit out more.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any long-lasting, high-coverage foundations? The one I have now is Clinique and it doesn't hide anything and seems to come right off.

Try Bare Escentual's All over face color. Works with most skin types and is very, very pretty.

I also use Clinique foundation, but I just started using Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray and I shit you not, my make up stayed on for over 10 hours. I pretty much can't live with out the stuff.

Really? I got that too and it doesn't work that well for me.

Maybe it's just because I live in a place where it's really hot and humid or something (or I'm just not spraying it on right or something). Hrm.

So, I decided to try contouring and highlighting today mainly to see if the Dermablend Cover Cream that's been in the back of my car for a year now is still good. I think it is, but when I tried putting on darker and lighter powders, they sort of just...vanished after I blended them.

Now I got a few questions. I used makeup sponges to put on the powder, should I be using brushes instead? Should I be putting on more powder? Should I be blending less?

Pic is what it looked like after. There is no eye makeup or blush put on. Would the contouring and highlighting actually look like its there? I've only done this like maybe 3 times before and I'm hoping to get decent at it in around two weeks time.

At least the stuble is covered...

Would that make any difference at all? Either way, I'll try again tomorrow and post the results.

A cream would be best, like the others suggested, and apply the blush only on the apples of your cheeks.

Revlon is very good, especially for a drugstore brand. Some makeup professionals even consider it on par with luxury brands.

Bring it with you in case you get any fly-aways, or in case of any unforeseen circumstances. You can get travel bottle of certain hairsprays from Walmart.

What would you suggest for someone who has no idea what she's doing in regards to makeup and has never worn any before?

What is the best way to apply liquid foundation? Like right now I just use my fingers but should I be using a brush or a sponge? What is better?

>> No.6827655

>>6827047
sponge.

>> No.6828300

>>6827047
Personally, my order of preference goes: (clean!) fingers > brush > sponge
I feel like brushes and sponges suck up too much liquid, and the brush applies too much while the sponge applies too little. Just my opinion.
I think sponges are good for doing blending around corners, like your mouth and nose.

Crossplay-anon here!

Is the contouring and highlighting actually necessary? I tried it on today (horribly, I might add) and honestly, I felt more like a drag queen than an anime character.

In the picture, Kotori only seems to have eye make up, pale foundation, and blush. My friend, who is a drag queen, also said the same thing and mentioned nothing about contouring or highlighting. I know its a cartoon but still...Is there even a point for a human to put it on?

>> No.6831220

>>6829753
Contouring is for face shaping. It's for people that want to make their face or certain features either stand out or slim down. Like, someone with a wide nose could use bronzer on the side of their nose to add more shadows and make it look slimmer. People put a light color/hightlight on their cheekbones to brighten up their features and make their cheeks look higher. A cosplayer could use it to make their features resemble an animu feature because, damn, it's rare and close to impossible to reach those standards.

It's all in personal preference. I'm trying to get the hang of bronzers myself, but people gotta do what they gotta do.

--

Speaking of contouring, how does one contour their round face to make it look slimmer? I keep finding tutorials on how to widen a slim face but it's never the other way around. ; _ ;
