On that note, I've seen two people recommend the ebay seller victoriangirldress who sells young girls petticoats. Has anyone actually bought the one for 16 year olds to see if it's long enough?

I bought mine from victoriangirldress on ebay. It's got a decent poof and hasn't relaxed a bit since I bought it. I bought the XXL (for girls ages 11-16) and it fits me comfortably, not to mention it's extremely soft and it's not itchy at all. For $20 + $10 shipping I have no complaints!

I wear one from victoriangirldress + the "lace petticoat" (Malco Modes, don't know which model, but the less poofy one) bought from Candy Violet about 6 years ago.

On days I want less poof, I can just wear one and it still looks poofy enough.
Pic is with both on - the amount of poof will vary a bit between dresses though.

this might be a really stupid question, but could the victoriangirldress pettis work for cupcake shaped dresses? someone called them a "soft a-line" once and mentioned that they could work, but i'm worried. the only super cupcake-y petti i've seen was a classical puppets, which i've ordered, but i need a petti sooner, so i was thinking about also ordering one from victoriangirldress.

my first true a-line was from Classical Puppets and it was awful (never have worn it). I took a chance and bought a CP cupcake petti second hand and love it. And I wanted a super full A-line so i took another chance and bought it from their shop and really like it.

Rating wise. My Dear Celine pettis are near the bottom, I like a lot of poof and they just don't cut it for me. They would probably be just fine for someone who wants a medium poof however. VGD I wear a lot. my Cupcake CP I wear just as much. I almost always wear my IW layering petti with both of those. The Angelic pretty one I've only worn once but I like it, it's almost not poofy enough so I don't wear it as much as my CP cupcake or my VGD. And I just received the AP layering one so I haven't tried it out yet. I haven't had a chance to wear my huge a-line from CP as all the dresses I have for it are summer-y. malco modes isn't poofy enough and too long, and I have others I like more so I haven't bothered to alter it properly.

Most bang for your buck is going to be VGD followed by CP Cupcake (IF you need a cupcake shape, VGD technically is a soft a-line but I don't think you could get away using it with a full a-line dress like a fully princess seamed MM dress for example). The AP one is nice and pretty, but not worth the price if you wanted to buy it new (I think it's about 150 bucks new). Hope that helps!

I bought mine while on a trip to California. It has some serious poof and hasn't died yet. That thing holds up heavy fabrics like velveteen and canvas like a mo'fo. 'twas a great deal for only $12.

I bought mine from a shop while on a trip through California. It's super poofy, cupcake-shaped, and holds up heavy fabric like velveteen and canvas like it's nobody's business. I use a square dance petti too. I took one layer off, shortened it (still too long through and it likes to slide down and peep every once in awhile). Though I kept mine more a-line because I have a wide ribcage and a-line elongates and flatters me better. It's so full that you don't really notice it's not cupcake in pictures, but looks a little too full with classic. Lady Sloth's stuff is the only thing that will deflate it since everything I have by her is heavy jersey knit.

When you say this, do you mean that the VGD is not poofy enough or not A-line enough? I'm getting into classic and am looking for a petti to use for that...

Also, what are layering pettis/how do you use them? I've never heard of them before!

>> No.6734509

From Clobba.
I have Dear Celine Frothy in black, it's nice with moderate poof but under heavy fabrics like velvet I need to add an extra petti.

As this is a petty thread, I really need one for my tea length dresses, Frothy is too short and you can clearly see a ridge where it ends which I don't find very pleasing.
Does anyone know a good moderate poof a-line petti that's longer than regular petti's?

>> No.6734510

I have owned 7 worth mentioning so far. If anyone has found the holy grail of cupcake petticoats i.e. I want to wear this sucker under heavy velvet with a bunch of ruffles and look like the AP models. I know they layer their pettis but I'm sick of wearing 2-3 all the time, please let me know - I was looking at melikestea so if anyone has a review that isn't just "nice shape under light cotton skirt" then please let me know
-short scratchy tulle one that came from corsetsuk - very good as extra poof to turn an A-line more cupcake e.g. VGD
-2 VGD pettis (cheapest model)
-Classical Puppets A line (the one that everyone sells, found it a bit too triangular/square dance for me, may buy one of their super full A-lines though)
-Classical Puppets bell shape (nice medium poof cupcake but definitely not as huge as people raved about it being)
-Classical Puppets daily A-line (exactly what it says on the packet, bought this for slightly longer dresses as the VGD ones are more like AP length as opposed to MM length)
-some random handmade square dancing one - this was amazing A line but too long for me so I gave it away

>>6733975
The length is what they say it is in the auction, 17.5" (I think), so it's fine under regular length skirts but not under stuff like IW tea length and longer VM/JetJ. The hip stretches to something ridiculous like 42" as well.

>>6734373
layering pettis just means that you usually wear it with another petticoat, often this can be to get a nicer shape as voluminous petticoats can be a bit lumpy in areas due to the sheer volume of fabric so you wear another one over the top to make the shape smoother and not create lumps in your skirt. VGD is not quite poofy enough alone for MM A-line since they have SO much space for poof at the bottom.

This was the petticoat I got and my only petticoat at the moment. It's really nice for the price. Picture is how much poof it can give my dresses though sometimes I feel like it's almost too much and have been considering another petticoat for my more classic looks.

>> No.6734523

>>6734509
Classical Puppets does a longer one iirc but I have no personal experience. Square dancing pettis - the lower-poof malco modes, for example, might work well for you, as they are frequently 'too long' and 'too A-line'. However, my definition of 'moderate poof' is determined by what a petticoat looks like under velvet, so if your tea length dresses are summer-weight cotton then maybe not.

>> No.6734551

I have two right now, one is a disgusting stiff cheap one from eBay and the other is a Classical Puppets bell one. I'm thinking of buying another CP one.

Does anybody have any recommendations for shorter pettis? I tried wearing my CP one with a low-waist dress, and it looked okay until I went outside and got to walking around, then the dress started to ride up and the petti was really visible.

I have the knee-length a-line from Hell Bunny. I'm 5'3" and it hits me right at the knee, pretty much perfect on all my dresses. It does tend to bunch at the front when I'm walking though, and the waistband on the white one is shiny so it slides down quite a bit. I paid £25 for it, but I've had it for over a year and it hasn't deflated at all. The poof is medium, but I've worn it with two before and it's been fine. It's about three or so layers of soft-ish net, so it doesn't hold up that well under weight (anything bigger than a small evening bag crushes it on the side, especially my college bag). I've been meaning to upgrade to a CP one for ages.

I used to layer a legs avenue petti with a shitty chiffon petti I got ages ago from F+F. Put something longer over top of them and they work well. I also noticed it looked best if I wore my pettis as low on my hips as possible.

Currently in the process of making myself a nice petti that can double as a casual mori style skirt out of chiffon, tulle, and layers of antique lace fragments I'm collecting from etsy. I've been losing weight and taking a break from lolita.

well, given that most dresses have a skirt length of 20" or so, VGD pettis are 17.5" and you wear your petticoat just below the natural waist (about 1-2") and you don't want your petti to finish at the exact same point as your skirt hem because it will show, you want it to finish 1-2" above, they're about right. If you're taller and worried about them being too short, measure that 17.5" down from where you wear your petti.
