I like this Roxy. The only critique I have is that the symbol looks a little high, and I wish the green was a little more vibrant or something. The tights/leggings could be tighter/fit better as well. Pretty good though, and nice wig.

As for misc info about each, SK has decent wear but should be used with a lip pencil, even it's a clear one outlining you bottom lip, MC's has a slight shimmer, and OCC is a godsend for staying power on minimal product, but you should use a pencil & either a primer or a good gloss to keep moisture in your lips.

Having gone to Megacon and have a few shoots myself, I can tell you that there were zero locations like that. MAYBE some grass but megacon is in the middle of tourist town shit hole i-drive. I ended up in this location a lot because the white background was honestly better than anything else.

Graftfobian is by far the weakest out of all the colors I sampled above. It definitely needs lip primer, and it takes several coats to get to a good opacity level, so touch ups are a must, and lip fix (ie http://www.amazon.com/Kryolan-Lip-Fix-0-4-oz/dp/B008OUYWZC ) is a good idea. It'll feel slightly tacky, but my lipstick doesn't move until I want it to.

(Also if you buy it via Amazon instead of direct from site, you might end up with a pumpkin shaped one)

A thing that's already been mentioned in the previous thread: The darker you go, the more obvious wear will be, and the more touching up/preventative measures you do.
Even though I love Grapesicle, it's a higher maintenance because it's so dark and already takes a couple layers to get it on opaque

(Also apologies for not posting w/ cosplay. I'm juggling too many tabs and trying to fix a wig because I accidentally over sprayed it with conditioner)

basically when you put gray paint all over your face everything becomes flat and it looks fake. To make it look like real skin you have to paint the shadows and highlights back in.

Most will tell you to go with Ben Nye, and while that may not actually be the best brand, it probably is the best alternative.
For one thing because most use it, leading to there simply being wider testing to make it work as well as possible for the intended purpose. Also, since most use it, there won't be any awkward differences in the shade of the paint between the cosplayers.

I've heard a lot of good things about Snazaroo and Ben Nye. I've gotten Snazaroo and waiting on it to be shipped so I can test it.

Both are really good makeups but it's mostly just sealing and powdering that you want to keep in mind. That's what makes or break looking greasy, smudging and or smearing.

Ben Nye usually has the darker of the greys that most mix with white, I believe, while Snazaroo has a nice middle grey that others tend to like. If you can, you should go for both and see what you like most.

One of the usual PAX anons here with the usual PAX spiel, possibly less coherent than usual because it's four in the morning for me.

To maximize application speed and facial mobility while minimizing rub-off, I use a combination of arm socks for my hands, PAX for high-friction areas like the neck and jawline, and Ben Nye for areas that require mobility such as the face.

PAX Pros:
- you don't have to worry about getting grey on anything: your cosplay, other people's cosplay, your surroundings, etc
- you can mix it in any color that you require
- the attributes of your PAX can be controlled by what type of Pros-Aide you use to mix it: No-Tac and II seem less sticky, II grants easier removal (but might come off while washing your hands or if holding something wet for a while), etc

Cons of PAX:
- Can take a while to apply and dry. Since it has a tendency to stick to itself before you powder it, you might need a second person to help you apply it if you're covering your whole arms or other areas that require you to bend the area to reach all parts of it
- can be a bitch to remove if you don't know how; even if you do, it takes patience
- tends to peel/flake in high movement/friction areas like joints and fingertips; is nonideal for the face since it doesn't lend well to stretch
- you have to shave hairy places if you're applying it there
- can be messier to apply than other methods (but is usually easier to clean off of countertops etc since it has a tendency to peel off. try not to get it on textiles while wet)

Personally, I use Kryolan Aquacolor. If you use it with Liquiset instead of water (and seal it properly, of course) it stays beautifully, and it goes on really quickly and smoothly as well if you use a makeup brush. It's also pretty light and easy to wear and not greasy like Ben Nye! I can wear it all day easily without any problems. As far as problems; most of them come with either not using Liquiset (it will melt off in hot weather) or using a sponge instead of a makeup brush--but I have had problems with it cracking if you get it on too thick! It will also start to rub off in high-friction areas throughout the day; but it's generally not a problem; and if you get it on your clothes, it's water-soluble and washes out easily.

Personally I recommend Ben Nye. I have friends who use Snazaroo, which looks like more fun to apply, and I really like the color. Also, it's easier to get out of fabric afterward. But the main con with water-based makeup is that if you sweat, it's going to end up looking shitty and you'll have to reapply it. Ben Nye doesn't have that problem.

Last year at Dragon*Con, my friends and I were waiting outside the aquarium, in August Atlanta heat, for more than an hour in full troll getup. I was the only one who didn't have to reapply my facepaint once we got inside, and I was sweating like a pig. (Good thing I cosplayed Equius I guess).

For bodypaint, armsocks, man... if you're wearing anything where you can possibly hide the neckline and the front and back seams, armsocks all the way. They make life so much easier. And you don't have to worry about being That Guy and getting your paint on some poor bastard's costume.

We have a hat-shirt Dirk, Roxy in her white outfit, a GT John, and a GT Dave who additionally has the alpha outfit and wants pictures of that too. There's also a Nepeta who I'll be taking some solo shots of. Since we don't have a full beta or alpha group, I thought it might be best just to go for individual shots and then pairs with the appropriate characters, like the Striders and then Dave and John or Dirk and Roxy or what have you. From what I know, none of this will be shippy in any regard, and I damn well hope it's not because I don't feel particularly drawn to photograph that.

nepeta would work great in a forest or near a rocky cliff if you live near one. if not, you could take shots of her in areas that look like the trolls' hideout in the medium (maybe recreate something from seek the highblood?)

dirk near the beach sounds good. maybe try and put emphasis on the water aspect? same with roxy, though she could also be photographed in a crowded city (as long as you try to avoid photographing cars/other people)

Assuming you're talking about dave from the r session, he would be great for a nighttime city shoot, but you could also try and photograph him at a desk drawing a story board for sbahj the movive or something

I made my Maryam horns with a base of tinfoil and then covered them with a layer of plaster-drenched bandage, cut in tin strips.
I then gave them a layer of plaster to smooth them out and give them a texture.
After that I painted them, then I realized I didn't know how to attach them to the headband. I drilled these screw-holders into the base (where the plaster was thick) and attached them to the headband that way.

This is not a method I would recommend, at least not in this execution. I really liked the end result in terms of look, especially the texture. I am not a fan of the completely smooth horns, but I also don't like the really rough ones or the rough texture created by wiring horns in thread. Painting the plaster on with a brush gives a nice texture that is just right for me. I also enjoy working with plaster since it's easy to find and work with, you just need a special kind of rasp.

However, the horns ended up being rather heavy, and since plaster is really fragile I had a problem with the screws coming loose on one side. The plaster cracked so the screw kept pulling out and I had to rewind it.
They also fell off after a rather violent hug, cracking them.

Were I to use this technique again, I would use a bigger base of tinfoil, get some way to attach them to the headband before applying the plaster, and change the bandage:freely molded plaster-ratio to less plaster overall, more bandage and considerably less free plaster.

Next pair of horns I will probably try my hand on insulating foam and cover them with plaster to get my beloved texture.

Horns are too far down; that might be a style choice thing, but they really should be coming out of the very top of your head, not your forehead.

Seal your paint, it's coming off on your hoodie. That means with baby powder / corn starch + Ben Nye sealant spray.

I personally don't like the hoodie, but I'm about canon designs; the sleeves are interesting and cleanly designed, at least. Next time you pose, if you want to include your bag, have it to the side somewhat so we can actually see your costume. As it is, it looks like you just forgot to take off your bag before you took a picture and you got angrily stopped in the hallway at a con.

Your glasses look good, I like your wig (even if its a little short for sollux, it works), and your hoodie design is neatly made. I think you can make it look really nice if you put some more work into it. Hope that's helpful!

Ok, so improve the makeup and put the horns higher up. I actually wasn't wearing a wig, that's my actual hair. That's why some of the makeup was absent around there because I tried to avoid getting it on my hair, I'll do better next time. I wanted to include the bag since it had the red & Blue and matched the hoodie but it does indeed look pretty awkward. And I actually did use sealant but that happened when putting on the hoodie after the paint job. I guess next time I'll put on the makeup after I get the hoodie on. It really depends what you're looking for and what troll.
I prefer smooth untextured horns, so I always look for methods that lead to that.
I do my smaller horns (eridan, feferi, karkat, etc) out of model magic, let it dry for two weeks, fill any cracks with spackle and sand until it's smooth.
For horns like tavros, gamzee, and bigger, I get those pink insulation boards from home depot, glue together with spray adhesive, carve, then coat with spackle and sand.
For headbands I use screws and anchors, attach a screw to the headband, make a hole in the horn and use gorilla glue to glue in an anchor. This way you can hide the headband underneath the wig.
I rarely use any type of foil method. Every time I've used foil they've broken quite easily.

Depends on what kind of body paint you're using. If it's Snaz, wait until you're 100% positive that part of your face is completely dry, then get a dry make-up sponge and just dab your fingers into the water, then onto the sponge before you put it in the Snaz. It sounds like your sponge is oversaturated, or you're trying to apply a new layer before the previous one is dry. I've had issues with that area of my face before too, and that's all I can really do to fix it.

Hello kind people of HSG, I was hoping to ask a question to you!

I've had a few orders for Equius horns and the ones I usually have are more of an arrow that I contour with paint to look more like an arrow than ...well a 3D mushroom like horn.

Long link but this is the one I got for mine. It needed very minor trimming and some styling on the bangs, but it ended up looking very nice!
Also take note that if you're mounting the horns on a headband under the wig, it's going to be really tough to get the purple one to sit behind the horns without it looking really wonky. I ended up just putting mine in front of the horns because it looked so stupid behind them.

Those reference photos actually aren't accurate anymore. Welovecolors seems to have changed their greys a bit from my experience. Both greys are much lighter than they were, I think. My friend ordered the light grey not long ago, and sure enough, they came pretty much white. He ended up just painting himself. My advice: Get the darker.

Excuse the crappy chopped photo but it's really the only one that I had that even showed the tights. I ordered the tights in this picture from them under "gray" and got that result, which was honestly perfect. I reordered two more pairs and they came a good shade darker like in >>6708032
I emailed them about it, and they said that the shade changes depending on the day, so I guess it's a lucky shot type of deal. I would still probably go with the gray however, my friend ordered the light gray and it came almost light blue.

I honestly couldn't even find one that didn't look like shit. What your friend could do is cut "U" pieces of fabric in different sizes and sew them on that way. I've never seen that method done before, but I think it could work. Just be sure to do thin strips/U's, and always hem everything.
