the hotel my friend booked screwed us over, so instead of being a block from the convention center they put us in one a block from the space needle

since it was "our fault for not clarifying" when she got transferred to the reservations clerk we had to cancel.

we ended up in the last room in some executive suites or something like that a half mile away which isn't bad but still, what horrible customer service. they were totally unwilling to work with us since it's such a busy weekend and someone else will come along and get a room there anyways. :(

but at least we have a hotel and don't have to drive back and forth.

I'm getting a little nervous about my Boris costume because my prop isn't beautiful and my boots are uncomfortable, but the latter is easily mendable. Other than that, I'm good to go and really excited. I'm headed up on Thursday but I have to drop off my paychek that morning, so I'm guaranteed to have at least some spending money. I'm looking forward to just hanging aorund with some con buddies, getting to know them better, and the like.

Things I accomplished today:
- got some unruly, tangled wigs more or less under control with oil sheen spray, but i still don't know how the heck to fix a frizzy, curly wig without wrecking the curls. halp.
- dyed my skirt blue. stupid commissioner made it the wrong color.
- got insoles so my high heels won't hurt like a bitch and painted my toenails a color i'm going to call Lumpy Space Purple.

Still need to:
- add some elastic to arm ruffles so they will fit (again, stupid commissioner. i triple checked that my measurements were right.)
- take ridiculously good care of my skin for the next two weeks and hope it clears up.

registration opens at noon on thursday and closes at 9 pm.. anyone can buy a membership on that day, but pre-registration will be priority. registration is located on the third floor of the conference center, not the convention center. the conference center is the smaller building connected to the convention center by the sky bridge. all I know is that it's on the third floor, no specific room(s) have been stated.

I basically told her I would help her with her wigs and armor, and now that means do ALL OF IT AND MAKE SURE IT WORKS WITH THE REST OF HER COSTUME I have no idea how the wigs will work with horns or the retarded cape she is planning on attaching a stupid way that probably won't work.

I was going to stay at the Roosevelt but then I got an email from a committee member saying that the Roosevelt cannot accommodate any of the Sakuracon guests. And now I'm going to have to stay at the Renaissance. I don't really mind. It was just really unexpected and so close to the con.

If this was going to happen I would have liked to be informed sooner.

Just a simple miss managing, but they caught it ahead of time so that it can be fixed.

Unlike what happened last year at AX where the hotel and housing just blamed each other and three of us had to share one bed. They wouldn't even comp a roll out one for us, they expected us to pay for it.

I'm just glad that Sakuracon staff are on top of things.

Not entirely sure. probably Friday night, or maybe Sunday, but I have to figure out if there's any JoJo 5 or SBR groups. A lot of my scheduling is going to be somewhat "on the fly" because I've got two costumes (Giorno and Kurloz) which have wearable time restraints. One worn too long results in torn skin, and the other I can't eat while wearing! Incredibly stoked for this year. Last year was a last minute decision to head down from Vancouver BC to the con, and I have been waiting ever since for it to come around again because I had so much fun.

I'm super stoked for the room parties and the raves. Gonna load up on 4loko (since we dont have it in Canada) and party hard.

Oookay. Finally plotted out my own schedule for costumes. Sort of. I'm insanely indecisive and it also depends on my fiancee.
Friday: Come in Lolita. Change into Denmark after I get into the hotel room. May change back dependent on how my boots treat me. (So what I'm in for the /cgl/ meet is still a mystery.)
Sat: Meulin for most of the day if possible. May change into other things in the evening, because I don't know how I feel about drinking and grey paint.
Sun: Start with Lolita. Change after going to fashion show. Unsure of what I'll be changing into.

Yeah, NicoNico English shut down at the end of last year (their closing announcement went up in July or so).

The only streamer I see listed on Sakura-Con's website is CrunchyRoll and their booth is pretty much where Nico was last year, so I guess that's what we've got.

Your tournament coordinator Mike here. At the time our schedule had to go to print, this was on it. One of our staffers swore to me he would have his copy express shipped to him and in hand by the time the con came around. As it is now known, this software will not be available at con time, and we will not be running All Star Battle. On most days, our guy's trustworthy and awesome, and he will be preparing a new event to run at this time in pennance :3

Occasionally, we do get pre-release software, such as Skulls of the Shogun last year. We do our best every year to partner with gaming companies and get all of the coolest stuff we can. We're hoping to get some love from 343 Industries this year, so keep your eyes peeled at our Halo 4 tournament! Sorry for the confusion.

Not in hotels or in public spaces like the convention center. Basically it's legal in your own house and you're allowed up to an ounce on your person. Washington isn't some magical weed paradise (well depending on your defitnition) On the streets for the most part it's the lowest priority (basically it's like having an open bottle of booze in public). Plus age limit at 21 so I'm not excited to see all the underaged homestucks getting stoned and then putting their grey hands in the dorito bowl.

Sorry this just irks me since I know several out of state friends who are super excited to smoke at Sakuracon and I have to keep reminding them that hotels will kick you out because they can.

Strolling by and seeing people may need some hotel help?

The Baroness Hotel is a 10min walk from and to the convention, with different rooms at rates $105/night, $115/night, and $139??/night starting Thursday. If you stay the Sunday night, I think they have a lower rate for just that night.

Silver Cloud Hotel on Broadway is very nice 3.5star, $139/night for a king or $149/night for 2 queens, and they offer complimentary (FREE but do tip the driver) shuttle rides every half-hour into the city, and one of the stops they make is at the convention center! They do pick-ups as well but only till 10:30pm, and there are some "down times" (like no rides at 2 but there will be a ride at 2:30).

That's all I can think of to look up. I stayed at the Silver Cloud on Broadway recently and it was magical. They also have a nice pool, but awkward to get to because you run across their underground parking to get to it.

It works pretty well with a number of oils, actually.
But it's a pain if you ever try to swap out or work on any parts, since you'll have to drain all the oils and clean the hardware before setting it back up again.

You can submerge pretty much everything except the power supply.

This'll be my first con and also first time working a booth to pay for. I have relatives in Seattle so I don't have to pay for a hotel, which leaves the only expenses as parking, food and gas's to drive up there. I'm hoping to come out of this with a profit.

Anything I should know about when working a booth?

I don't really have a plan to cosplay anything. I just started getting into it and all I have right now is the finished pepakura model of an ancient Nord helmet from Skyrim, so I would have to fiber glass resin, rondo, bondo, sand and paint it all by Friday. Even then I'd only have a helmet and at an anime convention, but if I find the time I might try.

If you have any experience working that involves customer relations, this is where you apply them. Make your items appealing but don't try to sell them like they're godly. Just worth while. Be friendly to anyone who comes by, and don't lose composure over people who are rude or disrespectful.

Always be polite and welcome people who come up to your booth. IMO trying to find a connection between the person and the items you have. If they're eyeing something Legend of Zelda related, see if they're a fan. Work from what you have and what you see.

And (even though it's obvious, some people forget) remember to thank anyone who makes a purchase. A customer who is appreciated is a customer bound to come back for more~ Good luck!

The name of the company is The C&L anime club. I've never worked with them before and pretty much just replied to their ad on Craigslist for some help at the booth. They sell mostly DVDs and manga from what I can gather off the website. The booth will be 10,11 and 12.

Also one other tip that always works for me. Do whatever you can to be friendly and conversational. I've worked booths, food stands, small shops, stores, and whenever you can be a friendly and willing person, people take that well. You don't have to serve anyone hand and foot, but when a customer knows that you're going to do your best to help them, when they need it, gets you quite far.

This. I suggest some other way of doing it, because smoking (no matter what kind it is) is illegal in public places. It's not a 'con' rule, or even that specific building rule. It's a state law concerning all public places. Private places (the con center, or colleges, etc) are allowed to put up designated smoking areas. Smoking outside of those areas is banned.

You can smoke in parks, but the Seattle Parks Code of Conduct indicates that you can be thrown out for smoking within 25 feet of anybody else in the area.
