I find nothing wrong with wearing nylons to get a smooth skin look on your legs. The bra situation was unfortunate but easily fixable by just wearing a smoother bra. And the stripes are easy to add as well. In terms of things that are messed up, they are minor and very easy to add. Now some other Fionnas I've seen.... guh.

The thing this Fionna did that makes me so happy is a hat with an accurate, not floppy shape, and she actually took time to make the hair swoop look right instead of just throwing on a blond wig.

Fionna is very cartoon curvy, the girl was probably trying to emulate that silhouette. A really important thing in character design is a recognizable silhouette, I learned that in an animation course I took.

GOD FUCKING DAMN, THIS.

I made a point to take pictures of every non-Eevee gijinka I saw at Momocon. I only got 3 pictures. I made good conversation with Horsea and Pinsir cosplayers, I apparently was the only person that even recognized she was Horsea and not Vaporeon.

Seriously, fuck Eeveelutions. And that new one looks retarded. I'm not looking forward to it being cosplayed to death.

As long as the design of the outfit is unique and fitting the pokemon most of them are okay. A yellow bikini or shapeless brown dress with fur collar is not okay.

Also, you may want to stay away from pokemon that everyone who played pokemon 1 time in their childhood remembers and keep complaining about that those are the original mons and everything after gen I is crap. (Things like pikachu, ratatta, eevee or the butterfree because whiny gamuurrgurlz)

I once saw a really good pikachu gijinka posted here, with a really cute outfit that looked a bit vocaloid like. It really looked a thousand times better then al the plain short dresses and bikini's

With over 600 options, I don't think they're overdone. Just pick a Pokemon that you genuinely love (and I find most people who still love Pokemon aren't that into Pikachu or Eeveelutions), and try to make a design based on that Pokemon's personality. For most Pokemon, this will not be the typical super skimpy mini skirt/bikini combination, but instead something that really brings out the flavor and typing of the Pokemon. Try to avoid simple closet cosplay unless you actually feel that's what the Pokemon would dress like when translated.

Pic related, it's one of my favorite gijinkas I've seen. This clearly shows attention to bringing Giratina to life while putting real effort into make a cosplay that represents it.

I did a gijinka at Momo, and not a goddamn person recognised me, because it wasn't the typical "ears and tail so it's instantly recognisable who you are" kind of gijinka. I thought it was fairly obvious who it was, if you took the five seconds to look, but, whatever. It wasn't really an attention cosplay; just a comfy Sunday one.
I can't say I mind Eeveelution and Pikachu gijinka, but they don't impress me as much as others. I actually mostly cosplay Pokémon gijinka, because I love the creative liberty I can take in the designs. I don't understand why so many people take the lazy way out, when you can do so much with them. Perhaps fear of not being recognised? Most non-/vp/ level Pokéfans probably can't recognise what a gijinka is if it doesn't have really, really obvious pieces, which is a shame, because the more subtle ones are usually the best.

Do you really think most of the girls that do Pikachu actually played any of the games past gen I or II to even know that we have gender differences now? They're usually the ones that are screaming, "I LOVE POKEMON. MY FAVOURITE IS PIKACHU/EEVEE/some other common fav," but are somehow proud to say that they've never played anything past the first gen (second, if you're lucky), because "there are only 150* Pokemon! Of well done would be a high def god tier or a really well done pre/ post scratch with details, ex. I really love uncommon Pokemon gijinkas, but a way to set yourself out from others, even if you like a common Pokemon, is to take some artistic license and add in a ton of little details. If you're doing Pikachu, don't be afraid to add in a few other brown details elsewhere in the costume rather than just on its back, etc.
Otherwise, Pokemon with little details are nice. Pokemon with many different colors give you the ability to change your design a bit more.
