I had a 7 hour car ride with one of these fucks. He was a brony and would only ever talk about one of three things-- how he doesn't like something (I don't like this restaurant's food, I don't like that you like that flavor soda, I don't like the price of this restaurant, I don't like costumes, etc), MLP or how awesome his OC/fanfic/voice acting "career" is.

We flat-out told him to shut the fuck up about most things, it was an awkward ride. He followed us to a rib joint we picked specifically because he was bitching about not having any money. What does he do? Order endless ribs, eats half of his first plate add bitches about it, the price, etc. We told him to shut up again and he spent the rest of the night stabbing the table with his fork and listening to his iPod, like an angry child.

On the ride home he professes his newfound love for costumes and inquires about buying one from me. The nicest thing I could say was "I think I'm out of your price range".

Fuck, at least I didn't have to share a room with that ponyfag. My driver did; said he did nothing but whine about dealer room prices and such.

Holy fuck did we room with the same person? Fucking #1, as soon as it came time to sleep she starting sighing really exaggeratedly so no one else could sleep until she got her spot on the bed. Wow I've been going to cons completely unattended since I was 14, I can't imagine what the would be like.

One time when I was 15 I missed my train home from the con. So there I was stranded on the bad side of town at 11PM still half in costume. All of the friends that I spent the day with were either asleep in unknown hotel rooms or had already left the con and I didn't have a cellphone. Called my Grandma, the only person available to come get me, to ask for a ride home. She basically told me to go screw myself and hung up. So I had to beg a random dude who was easily in his thirties that I met on the con floor for a ride. Finally managed to get my cunt of a Grandma to answer the door and let me in at 1AM and she just told me that she was proud that I found a way to get home by myself and went to bed.

These are good people. I met a girl last year at Tora-Con partway through the day who just wanted to get away from her crazy friends and boyfriend, and I was taking a break from my girlfriend's lineup of nutcases, so the random girl and I escaped to the other side of the campus and had a nice dinner chatting and relaxing. And after that, went back to our lives.

No expectations, no secret passions, just two people mutually relaxing away from the insanity. We still talk via e-mail, but neither of us ever had any interest in anything more than just that friendship - she has a new boyfriend and I'm still happily with the one I had.

These kinds of people are the ones who really make these conventions worth going to. Really good ordinary people who you can just chill with without pressures and social expectations or politics.
