I want to go to an upcoming con in lolita (first timer here) but I won't be able to get a petti in time.

Do you think it would be ok to go in a full outfit sans-petti?

I own both versions of this dress Uunderbust and JSK) and I usually keep it with a black and blue theme. I found out that simple accessories work best because it takes a lot away from the skirt print or ends up quite busy. If you would like I am selling mine- contact me if you'd like, I linked my email. AatP is pirate lolita? That's not really a popular thing anymore, though, so I'd say it's an evolution of punk lolita.

If you're stuck between styles it's not like you have to choose. Personally, I dress gothic/classic as well. Kind of a darker coloured classic with maybe some edgier of gothic items thrown in, if that helps as an explanation. My point is, if you like it, just buy it without worrying about what 'style' you are.

As for blouses, I personally like either high collar blouses or low ones. I dislike peter pan collars but that may just be preference on my part. Here's an image from my wardrobe post for a for examples, though!

I have a question. I am ordering my first pair of shoes from Bodyline, but I've heard odd things about their sizing. I've heard they run big, they run small, I heard not to use a converion chart, and the sizes are a little confusing for me.

Should I order my exact size? (My US is size 9, I measured 25 cm, would this be accurate?)

For those of you more experienced people, how do you go about getting a hold of an out of stock dress?

Not like, what sites you use, but do you check the sites every day, use a WTB ad, spam /cgl/, etc? And how long does it usually take you to find one to buy?

I'm feeling a little discouraged, all the dresses I'm interested in are sold out and apparently hard to find, but I've only been looking for about 4 months.

>> No.6692121

>>6691940
I think they run pretty accurate, if you go by the centimeters. My 24.5 pair fits just right, maybe a bit loose (but it does have a wide tip). If you're going for RHS, you might want to consider if you have large feet or not. I kinda have the hobbit feet going on, the front part of them is quite wide, and I literally can't wear my RHS for a day without being in pain at one point because they're just too small. They've designed them very narrow, which is pretty, but for us hobbits not always as nice.

>> No.6692140

>>6692063
If I'm after a particular dress, I'll only look for it when I know I have the funds for it. It took me four years to find the Edward Skull skirt without someone else buying it before me or the price being ludicrously high. When I am on the hunt for an item, however, I will check auctions and second hand shops at least once every two days (less for second hand shops, since their updates are less regular) and post a WTB on the EGL comm sales and FB sales.

It's mostly about patience and seasonality. Most of my "dream" items, I've found when they were off season, because people decide that they'll sell them while they can't wear them.

And if you're also looking for that Marine OP, I wish you luck. I've been trying to find it, too. It looks like people are sitting on it, so it may not show up until after the coming summer/next Septemberish.

It doesn't matter where the blouse is from; if it works with the outfit as lolita, it works.

I wouldn't say that round faces look bad in high-necked blouses, but you are right that chubby girls do better with a lower collar.

It's because they tend to look like they don't have a neck while wearing high collars, not so much that their face itself is fat.

>> No.6692658

>>6691780
Go with netted wigcaps. I have the worst time with nylon wigcaps. A lot of wig sellers (Mintymix and Lockshop... though lockshop's shipping is through the roof now) send out wigcaps with their wigs. The netted ones are comfortable, and easy to affix to your head with bobbypins, and pinning the wig into them is easy so that they stay in place.

For combing your wig, take a wide toothed comb and work in small sections from the bottom up, carefully and patiently. I've worn my lolita wigs numerously and I've yet to have one turn into a ratty mess. They just require a careful comb-through between wearings. During the winter, when putting on your wig, use a metal comb (I use a $1 pet grooming comb from dollar tree) to keep your wig from getting static.

>>6692063
Save money and hunt that sucker down. I also make sure I keep my credit card paid down in case something pops up that I've been looking for for awhile, so if I have to charge it, I can. Just obviously be careful with it... and some sellers (facebook / lj sales) aren't keen on credit card purchases. But for 2nd hand sites and anywhere else that takes paypal I use credit.

>>6692628
I couldn't wear high collars until I dropped some weight. I still have some difficulty with them because my neck is short, or at least I think so. Low, flat round collars look great on me. High collars are a little meh.

Question? This dress. I have it on order, and I'm looking into what blouse I'd want for it. I was thinking long sleeve, possibly chiffon? I like the idea of lighter sleeves with the summer rolling around. I was also thinking that I might like a colour other than black, but not white. Maybe a maroon or a red violet colourway? Does that sound like it would work, and would anyone have any suggestions as to blouses to use? It doesn't have to fit my ideas specifically, I'm open to all comments.

Hard to make it look "sweet" since there is a major lack of color. Sweet's very... well.. sweet. You think candy, you think color. Pink. Blue.

This shade of grey makes me think of Lenard the Cough Drop from the Dr. Tran series.

IMO the skirt is very expensive for the plain-ness of the print. It also has a boring construction and I can't help but think of a deflated balloon.

Long post short: Nice dress print, ugly design. Dont go for "sweet" in this.

Yes, they matter. Plus, black is much more harsher than, say, brown is. If your coords have black in them a lot of time it should be okay, but otherwise you're going to want to match your coord to your shoes.

I'd say wear it with a white peter pan blouse, a pink cardigan, white tights, and pink shoes. I really hate the necklace and think it's going to look horrible and clunky, but at least it'll match. Pair with a pink beret and maybe low pigtails and it's toned down sweet.

idk where that print is from at all but frankly, it is kinda ita IMO. the horse and the guy riding it have no form or anatomy of any kind. it looks bad. not to mention that the print and the dress design is lacking in detail. usually lolita dresses have lace, ruffles, or bows on them. the waist part looks like a pathetic attempt at copying krad lanrete's mozarabic chant (maybe it's just me...) she should just pick another dress altogether. seriously most, though not all, western indie brands cannot design prints to save their lives. take her to hellolace and choose something else.

I feel almost one hundred percent the same way. Though I do think the skirt is cute, but not for that money. The necklace is terrible to be sure and just doesn't fit with the theme. All the same though, she bought the skirt already and is blindly in love with the necklace and sweet, I just wanted to help her not look awful.

we were toying with the idea of lavenders since lavender goes so nicely with grey.

I think the issue is that the style of the dress isn't intended to be sweet, so lacking all of those details you listed makes it look simplistic.

Sweet usually calls for a cupcake-shaped petti as well and with the way that skirt is sewn it's pretty hard to call if it will look good that way or a trainwreck. Please convince her. That skirt is too fucking expensive for an *~*~indie**~ brand and it's probably going to end up on an ita board if she coords it badly.

Necklace is gross and while Sleniper/Odin/whatever this is called gives off a more matute vibe with the grey color, that necklace makes me think of overpriced MLP art commissions. It's way too "cutesy". Forgive me if I sound too mean about the entire thing.

Personally I think lavender is eh. Too drab/toned down for any future sweet coords if its darker lavender, but any light lavender will mismatch with the grey dress. I want to suggest white because of its versatality.

hi guys! i'm a dumb newbie and i'm afraid i might've made a mistake when ordering from taobao, but i'm not sure.

both of these are a-line petticoats. i ended up ordering the one on the right, but i just went back to the classical puppets store to add a cupcake petticoat to my order and i realized the one on the left looks a lot more sensible for an a-line. is the petticoat on the right useable at all? or is the accentuation of the a-line too extreme? i currently have a mary magdalene ekaterina op (which i believe is a-line? though i'm not sure) and an innocent world jsk (which i believe is a-line). if i've made a dumb mistake, is there a way to cancel with taobaonow after sending the payment? i mean, the petti isn't a ton of money in USD, but i would feel really stupid.

>> No.6693719

>>6693711
I'm a newb too so I don't know how much I can help you but I found that when shopping for petticoats (I actually bought the one on the left), I found it helpful to compare the petticoat to the things I wanted to wear and see what kind of shape I wanted to create. I would say the right side petticoat matches the shape of Ekaterina more than the left side because of the flare. It does look like the flare is larger than the skirt but I also know that petticoats will lose part of their form when wearing a dress, depending on the weight (but it's bad if the petticoat is squashed because of the shape of the dress rather than weight), and may lose some of their form with wear and time.

I know most SS have an order page where you can see if the item has been paid for or not but it's hard to say whether you would be able to contact your SS in time. Since CP are quite slow, you may be able to get a refund, however, or move the payment from one petticoat to the other before they send it.

They're not really necessary, but you have to put the effort into styling your real hair. You can't just run a brush through it and call it a day. Glasses can work with lolita, but you have to treat them like any other accessory. Not saying you need a billion pairs, but don't get red frames if you don't incorporate red a lot into your outfits. It's like if you are wearing a mint x pink outfit, you wouldn't just suddenly throw in a black bracelet into the mix. Of course with glasses, you also want a pair that suit your face too. But, at the end of the day, if you've got to wear glasses because of your bad eyesight, just wear them and ignore what everyone else says. Most people don't need an entire bolt of chiffon, though, and most people don't want to sew chiffon on their own.

Manufacturers on lolita aren't going to waste money on silk chiffon because it going to raise the price of the blouse. And they're not going to cover the extra cost of silk out of the goodness of their heart, especially when most of us are happy with polyester chiffon.

Styling costs money, manufacturing clothes cost money, materials cost money. To make lolita affordable for us, you gotta cut the cost somewhere, and it's gonna be in material 99% of the time.

I wasn't talking lolita specifically (probably should've mentioned that). I was more contesting the 'you only find it in high end fashion' part, since there must be some pricier shops that use it. Like, the ones in the gap between House of Fraser and Prada, for example.

With regards to lolita, I see your point, although a decent polyester can easily run you just as much. You'd have thought people would be more willing to part with their money for silk over polyester, since (some, butthurt) people always seem to complain that brand prints are polyester which means they must be TERRIBLE QUALITY or something. But, hey, brands know best, I imagine.

Newbie Lolita here.
I was a fool and bought a shitty, cheap petticoat and now I'm trying to remedy my problem. I know people talk about how to use victoriangirldress from ebay. But there are so many petticoats I don't know if there was a specific one to use or not use. I was looking at

But I didn't know if it was the right shape (looking for cupcake, not A-line) or length. I'm terrified I'll end up buying those super short, shitty, Halloween party tutus by mistake but I don't know how to make sense of all of the information.

On the same line, was thinking of getting my second dress, which would be A-line, and was curious about suggestions for a petticoat for that. I know the general idea was not to mix A-Line and Cupcake, since they're two different forms, but I didn't know where to start with A-line at all.
Any suggestions?
I'll reread the thread in case my question has been answered. Thanks in advanced.

It's really hard to say because it kind of depends on how long your torso is as well. A lot of taller girls have said that the issue they have with dresses is that it's not just the length that is the issue, but also the bodice is made for people who are shorter, so it ends in weird places and the bust line isn't always where it's supposed to be.

You must do some measuring, my child. Measure your bodice length (from your desired neckline to end of torso), and then skirt length (from waist or end of torso to where you want the skirt to end i.e. just above the knee or whatever.)

What kind of cut is the dress? Is it a baby doll or empire cut or princess cut etc.? See if the item has details on how long the bodice is and how long the skirt is and check against your own measurements.

Is your torso long or do you have longer legs with a short torso? It depends on so many things.

Preferably yes. Just one with less poof than usually recommended. Maybe a bodyline petti or two instead of the super violent poof a CP petti can give you.

I'm the wheelchair lolita in that picture, and I am wearing a petticoat. Like the other anons said, you should still wear a petticoat but you don't need a big poofy one. The petti will stop the skirt from clinging to your legs and looking weird. Another thing that you need to consider is that the you want to be careful the material you pick. You're sitting on it a lot so don't pick something itchy. I like to wear an underskirt that's nice and soft to stop the petticoat from becoming too uncomfortable to sit on.

To find old ones, you're gonna have to look for 2nd-hand sales. Try egl-comm-sales.livejournal, livejournal lolita sales communities, lolita sales tumblr tag sometimes is useful, and there's also various 2nd hand japanese sites that ship overseas, closetchild, alicefururun, usagiyouhinten. Mbok is a Japanese Auction site as well as Yahoo Auctions in Japan, you'll need a shopping service for them. There's also some specialized shops that have online shopfronts too for 2nd hand stuff. You just need to look.

I'm a newbie loli too and even I can tell these questions are dumb. assuming you somehow can't see the sticky at the top of the board, there are several websites (including the big-name egl comm on lj) that could've answered your questions easy, or are an aggregate of several websites with more specific links.

if a weeaboo whose only exposure to lace monsters can self-educate herself on the basics of lolita via google, so can you. "but zomg where do I buy brand?" is a stupid question unless you want to ask "I've seen x dress that I really like, how often does it get resold?" or something, because that's not something you can learn just by googling or reading lolita 101.

I'm the Anon that asked for shoes/blouses/petti's. I've bought stuff before, hence why I've been wearing lolita before. It's just that I'd like to hear where others like to buy their stuff for a more personal advice if that makes any sense? I'm sorry if my post bothered you.

It's the way you worded it. That's why it came across as lazy newbie. Especially since we regularly answer the question regarding petticoats. It's in almost every single general lolita thread! If you say something like "I've been looking at x shop, has anyone had any experience with them before? What about other places that sell similar styles?" then it doesn't seem like you're just straight up asking "where can I get a blouse because I am new and can't be bothered using google"

Okay so I've been looking around a lot and I'm having trouble finding bloomers for >100cm hips. The only one I can find is Bodyline, which I would prefer not to buy from, and Qutieland which marks stuff up more than I would prefer paying for. Are there any Taobao shops that might carry larger bloomers? (I'd prefer Taobao because a) cheaper and b) making a big order anyways).

Or should I just pay more for custom sizing/marked up stuff?

why not commission someone on comm_sales? there's a few people that make bloomers on there, for fairly cheap. I'm not sure if ririnhime is taking orders at the moment but I remember hers being inexpensive.

I have a pretty gross question. I have a problem with chronic sweating, but only in the armpit area. I don't even have to be warm for it to happen. I've tried using the "extra strength" and "clinical strength" deodorant to no avail. Does anyone have any tips or tricks with dealing with this? It's really embarassing and I don't wear my dresses any longer that an hour in fear of ruining them.

I'm looking at getting a petticoat soon, which one would you recommend? Trying to decide between these two (or both if my budget allows)

Would wearing a cupcake shaped petti under an A-line dress make it look silly? And vice versa.

I'm looking at getting into lolita maybe, but I also need a petticoat for some cosplays I have planned anyway. Cosplays are mainly cupcake shaped, but all the loli dresses I like are A-lines.

It can stretch the fabric at the top of the a line a bit and make it look overstuffed at the top, but by and large it's okay. A lines can be rolled up into cupcakes though.

My sister had the same problem with sweating and went to her doctor about it. She was given tablets to take which has cleared it up for her. I think she mentioned there was an injection or something you can get, but the tablets have worked so well for her. Maybe it's worth going to your doctor and seeing if it's something that can get sorted for?

I thought it was an okay post, considering I specifically asked for relatively cheap cupcake petticoats. Also asked about buying shoes from Qutieland.

I do see what you mean with coming off as a lazy loli though. I guess the fact that English isn't my native language is making it didficult to properly get my point across. Sorry Anon.

Anon here, yeah still a newbie... One day I will own a legit cat themed skirt/jsk, but now I'm broke and have to save up.

What are the best times of the year for the usual seasonal sales? What was your best "deal" that you've gotten on an item in lolita? Would you recommend buying brand at a convention?

I'd say winter? Not only are the deals good in general but there's the new years... But for good deals mine are all secondhand. A nwt jetj velvet jsk for like 5000-6000 yen or something? And a jacquard millefleurs skirt for 2500 yen.

>> No.6709466

>>6709441
I'd say her construction quality is okay, at least from what I've heard, but her plus size things can be sized wonkily because she widens patterns without lengthening them? So if you're not plus size it should be okay, otherwise, provide a lot of measurements.

>> No.6709473

>>6709466
I ordered a plus size skirt from her and I had no issues. People on cgl mistake it for brand when I post with it.
I think the only people that complain about the patterns are people with ultra big measurements, to be perfectly honest. I've only ever seen wonky looking skirts for waist measurements of 110cm or higher.

Seconding New Year's sales and secondhand. Especially on the comm sales, prices can get slashed really low and especially for older or non print pieces you can get brand dresses for really cheap, $70-90 USD easy.

I wouldn't recommend buying at a convention unless it's an item you're unsure you'll fit, so you can try it on. I've bought items at cons before but in one case it was an item I just saw and loved on the spot, in another it was a 'regular stock' kind of item that I was able to save from paying shipping on.

Con purchases are prone to buyer's remorse though, so I wouldn't unless you're really sure.

I'm not really a new lolita, but I've recently had the realization I suck at accessories. I generally wear a necklace or a bracelet, but my coords still aren't in that "polished" category I'd like to be in.

Any good resources for prime coords or tips for accessorizing? (I'm a classic/sweet gal, so OTT/Deco resources won't really help.)

Okay, in the latest d_l post with the girl with dyed hair, do you think it would work out well for newbie lolitas or would you be like /silently judging you/ for not having your hair work well with your coord?

>> No.6712546

Personally, I don't think your hair should HAVE to coord with your outfit. This is definitely a newer invention in the fashion due to the boom of wigs.

However this more applies to natural haircolors. If you have crazily colored hair, I think I would question you a bit... but I still don't think it's absolutely necessary. And it's more if your hair is that kind of fried, stringy gross dyed hair. If your hair looks gross then either way, it's bad.
