I will say that the Ayane looks to have purchased the official bikini, which is around $100. At least hers is official, I guess. It does ride at an unnatural place below the bellybutton.

I'm not going to hate on bikini costumes, I've done a few myself. When it's summertime, it's appropriate and fun. I wouldn't wear it inside the convention center though, but around the pool is cool.

Yeah it sucks if you spent a lot of time on your costume and get no attention compared to simple popular outfits (i.e. May from Pokemon) or skimpy outfits (bikinis), but if you've been around the cosplay arena for some time, you come to expect that. Cosplay is 90% a popularity contest. Get used to it.

If you want to be recognized for craftsmanship, enter the craftsmanship contest.

So long as this stays an actual idea thread and not a place for vendetta, I think school girl costumes and anything off ebay is easy. Gijinka's of anything tend to be easier as well.

What I love about gijinka costumes, though, is that they have the potential to be really fancy and detailed. When designing a gijinka you can put your own spin on it.
But the girls who wear a yellow dress and pink wig and call themselves a pony are lazy, and I agree with your statement in that regard.

Casual characters with street clothes for outfits irk me.

I have nothing against bikini cosplays or simple costumes if they're well done and look good. In fact, the simpler your costume, the more attention needs to be paid to things like your wig and makeup to make the whole look work.

That ayane looks like she made no effort with the wig and makeup. And if she spent a bomb on the bikini, she's a perfect example of how the more money you spend on a costume does not guarantee that you'll look good.

I don't really think I'd call this a lazy cosplay. It's a canon outfit (even though she probably could have gotten better boots), the wig would be a bitch to keep from becoming a ratty nest of shit, and painting your body, even if she is wearing arm socks, takes over an hour depending on the kind of paint you're using and how even you want it to look. So yeah, I wouldn't call that the laziest, though it's certainly not the most complex.
