I want to get into lolita but i don't know where to start.
Or even what genre?
Help please.
I'm tall, thin with medium skin.

>> No.6685800

wait until you find a dress that you completely love and could not live without

then buy that dress

or just waste money on some ita bodyline you'll hate in a few years like every other babyloli

>> No.6685799

On the topic of genre, what's the one that's kind of Boheiman? It looks a bit like Mori[I think?] but looks like it's from Eastern Europe.

Is there a specific name I can look for things on Taobao for it?

Lolita is fun. If you can't handle picking out a dress that you like all by your self then it seems like you won't have fun in this hobby.

You know what's a great brand for new lolis on budget, OP? Milanoo; they send out great, quality stuff. Also, Fanplusfriend, but don't get the plain stuff because it's not worth the price. Anything with lots and lots of lace is more worth it. You can also find great deals on Ebay! Good luck, OP!

>> No.6686965

Not OP, but how about a little Q&A for us newbie lolitas?

I don't mean basic stuff that's in the guide, but maybe more intensive, firsthand experience type questions.

Seconding! I get ALL my super cute lolita drseses from milanoo. Brands are just rip offs, you can't get any cheaper than $400, so it's so much better buying a bunch of dresses from Milanoo for that sort of money.

The whole point is to wear stuff you like. If you can't even decide what you like with thousands of dresses available to you, then stick with your baggy jeans and tshirt with a "witty" saying on it.

The only one I have for the moment is:
Is it difficult to alter a JSK, or would it be pretty simple to have a tailor/myself do it?

I want to get this dress in the short version, but I missed the reserve and I'm afraid I won't get another chance. They seem to have plenty of the longer version in stock though, so I was thinking I'd just buy the long one and shorten it.

Bad idea?

>> No.6687082

>>6687074
It's not a bad idea if you knew what you are doing. If you don't, take it to get alerted. It is a very simple change. But you have to deal with lining too, that's if you've never done anything like this i mean

>> No.6687089

>>6687082

Hmm, do dresses typically have a lining?

(probably a stupid question, but this is my first dress)

Anyhow, thanks for the response

>> No.6687090

>>6687074
Are you looking to get it in the ivory colorway or did you just use that picture? Because the only available one is the S size in blue. If you're just using the picture as an example then never mind me.

>> No.6687093

>>6687090

Yeah, I wanted to get blue but they don't have a picture of the long version of it.

>> No.6687095

>>6687089
Some do, some don't. I believe Mozarabic Chant is lined though.

>> No.6687097

>>6687089
Yes... most dress SHOULD have s lining. I personally own the short version of this dress and it had a lining. If you do not sew, get it alerted because having to regather into the waist is going to be difficult for you to accomplish as a beginner having to deal with the zipper and lining

>> No.6687103

God damn I don't mean to sound elitist or anything here, but I've talked with so many girls about how I'm into lolita, and they are like "Yeah I was thinking about getting into it myself, my friend told me I'd look good in it" or <insert other generic response that has nothing to do with liking the style or hobby>. I just don't understand why you'd get into lolita and drop that much money on clothes unless it was a style you really enjoyed and was a hobby of yours, and not just "I have the right body for it and I'd look good in it".

>> No.6687117

Dumb question #2

If a dress is given a length of 106cm, is that measuring from the top of the dress to the bottom hem, or from the waist of the dress to the hem?

It seems obvious, but in the case of Mozarabic the long skirt would land several centimeters longer than the long dress so I feel like I'm measuring it wrong. They may mean for the skirt to be quite a bit longer though...

If that is the case, then the long dress would hit me right at the knee and I might not even need to shorten it.

>> No.6687123

>>6687117
It says skirt length is 106cm

>> No.6687134

>>6687123

Yeah, but I wondered if it was a translation error, since the long skirt is listed as 77cm.

If the dress is 106cm measuring from the waist, wouldn't it drag on the ground for most pople?

I can't say if Krad Lanrete have listed the length wrong or not, but the words definitely say it is the skirt length. The only listing I could find for the short version says that including the lace, the skirt length is 95cm. I'm just sorry I can't be more help, as I don't own these dresses so I'm just going by what the store listings say.

I can't find a long version of the dress being worn, so here is the short version. The long version would hit her around mid-calf (if I've worked it out right).

>> No.6687164

>>6687152

Oh wow, I've never seen it on someone. It's gorgeous

Anyhow, that fits with what I was thinking, I'm about 5'7"/5'8" so I'll probably just stick with the longer one. Thank you much

>> No.6687256

The measurements are different for every brand. Meta, for instance, measures from the top of the bodice down- strap length isn't included because it is often adjustable.

>> No.6687278

>>6685795
It would be helpful to know your budget, OP. If you're tall, I don't recommend sweet lolita. You'll probably want to look for longer classic dresses from Innocent World, Victorian Maiden, or Mary Magdalene. Just be prepared to spend $250-$300 on a dress.

>> No.6687294

there are a lot of lolis in elementary schools. better start there

ish. If you look in the right places you may find some considerably cheaper (and still brand)

Check out y! Auctions Japan, mbok, etc. You can get some place like Japonica or Celga to buy for you.... I saw quite a few dresses end between 5,000Y-10,000Y

Maybe it would be more accurate to say "Be prepared to spend $250-$300 on an outfit.

I had a friend email them asking about that print, and they said they'd be able to make anything custom if you gave them three months. Maybe you could ask your SS to ask if you could get a short one, anyway?
