It's that time again Seagulls! You pick what you want for the next competition.

Right now the scores are: (This is a combination of votes on FB & Tumblr)
>Manga Couple: 8
>Moe Girl: 15
>Dolly Look: 11
>Gothic Lolita: 6
>Opposite Coords Team-up:

But what does 'moe girl' even mean? It's just basically 'cute' so how would you judge that and set rules? Do we all dress up like moeshit anime?

Manga couple is a team up theme, where you pick a partner and present two images as a single entry. One of you will have to gender-bend as the male and the other will doll herself up. Look at Manga/Anime for inspiration. It doesn't have to be OC's, but the both of you should be coordinating with each other. You may use cosplay pieces to help you as well.

Moe Girl theme. Basically you can pick from these moe archetypes: Maid, Megane (glasses wearing characters), Loli, Cat girls, win tails (ponytails) or even a combination of these things. This is more of a have-fun theme and allows cosplays to join in. If you need inspiration think of Lucky Star! You can take up to 5 pictures and do a super cute collage.

Dolly look will be the same as always. Basically the Dakota makeover if you will or Anastasiya Shpagina or even Valeria Lukyanova. WITHOUT THE LOADS OF SHOP! This is more of a Kawaii beauty shoot, with 5 pictures put into a collage showing your look.

Gothic Lolita is very self explanatory and caters more to the Lolita's of this board. Show everyone your best Gothic Lolita Coord, you can have up to 6 pictures in your collage to show off everything.

Opposites Coords Team-up, is another duo theme. In which you will pick a partner and enter together. This is strictly J-fashion only (I might consider cosplay for this as well). You will be presenting together, with one person dressing in one fashion for example, lolita and your partner will dress dolly-kei or even sweet lolita and classic lolita. The mix is really up to you. You two will put together a side by side comparison in a collage.

I'm just saying 'moe' covers way too much to be able to be a theme. Your example is more like a cutesy idol theme. What is considered moe can differ between people. I find megane gay butlers moe but that probably wouldn't be a winning entry.

Yes, very cutesy. I will give people the option of doing this style or if they want to have a bit of fun, they can "anime" reference it up as well. We have a lot of cosplayers on this board and I want them to be able to join in on the fun as well.

I know, but the cute & young moe was the popular vote. As you know, there are tons of moe types. But to avoid confusion, we would narrow down a few things or make things easier. Also, we want to make this a little more Cosplayer friendly. The cute maid moe, or the cute glasses wearing moe or the loli moe, cat-girl moe, pigtail moe, uniform moe. Those would be fine, but they would all have that very young, cute and innocent look to them. They don't have to look 5 year old. You could combine any of these things, but make sure you had that innocent/cute look to you. Like I said, be creative and have fun with what's allowed. You can be maid-moe making some cake, or spilling some water to show your all shy and clumpy or glasses wearing moe playing video games or sitting with your collection of cute stuffed animals.

People liked this and so that is what's been chosen for moe theme. Now, you can still vote and pick what type of theme you want. But, understand that is what the moe theme is about. I'm allowing everyone to vote on what they want.

She doesn't look "cute", which is true. Someone posted a wonderful example of a moe glasses wearing teacher >>6683801.

That >>6683798 would not translate very well into photos. It just looks like a woman in very boring clothing. Don't get me wrong, I like Yukari Tanizaki, but that's not the look you'd want to be going for. You'd want to be going for cute elements such as glasses, pigtails etc. I'm willing to allow ladies to go for cute moe teacher or cute moe priest, to make things more flexible.

I know, trust me I do. When I was asking what type of moe seagulls wanted to portray (because we know Moe is a decent sized umbrella of archetypes). The cutesy appearing type was the most popular and something they agreed upon. There needed to be some sort of common ground or foundation to work with to make judging easier.

Just throwing out moe girl, would leave a lot of girls confused and not knowing where to start. You have to give them something to work with and use a medium that can translate well in photos.

If we know before hand we're going for a certain type or look, it makes things a lot easier. Remember, their bring judged on photos and that is limiting within itself. Sure, we know Yukari Tanizaki from Azumanga Daioh and the background of this character. It's different when someone is cosplay an OC and translating a moe personality into photos.

Setting a certain look and characteristics that are classic to the more "Cute" appearing, pure heart, sweet, submissive and much fawned over moe character archetype was the popular pick and easiest to work with.

So if girls want to do something that looks like this >>6683765 or >>6683801 or even this >>6683998. We know the type of moe that has been set, you don't have to look like a loli.

It would be totally different if I asked girls to dress like their favorite moe character from whatever anime/manga and send me a photo. At least I know there cosplaying a character with a well established background and character history.

You except me to be asking girls to do an OC of what they think is moe and I'm suppose to guess whats going on.

We're going for moekko, you cannot show Kuuderes or Tsunderes personalities in a photo, it just doesn't translate. But, we all know what cute and innocent looks like. We can agree that there are also many physical characteristics typically owned by characters designed to be “moe”.

We're not using Yangire, Yandere, Tsudere, Kuudere, Dandere. It just won't work in a photo. We're just going for the basics here using a few common characteristics.

I'm here to argue with you, just trying to help you and other who might have questions what is okay for the contest and give the girls a basic foundation to work with. Remember this is a contest and there being judged on photos and their doing OC'.

Curious lovey~ The person trying to argue with you that 'moe' is based on person to person and blah blah blah is stupid! I love this idea. I'm a fan of moe drawings and all moe characters have a basic stylized look to them. It doesn't mean 'cute' but there are certain things you think of when you hear the term. There are certain traits that you can associate moe with. Also, personality archetypes DO translate well into photos, because, like I said there are traits you can use to associate.

Even though 'moe archetypes' do translate well into photos the lists that are being provided are really shit. But technically generic anime girl personalities are called 'moe archetypes'

What I think you may mean is typical moe kawaii uguu. Like Yui from K-on. Just generic sort of airheaded, girly girls. I think the term moe applies to a lot of different things that you may not be fully aware of.

Watch enough anime or read enough manga and you get the gist pretty much.

To make the theme more contest savvy add in some elements like the stuff I listed to help with judging. The cute appearing moe seemed to be a hit with the girls when I questioned them, because it helps them figure out a look they can work with.

I understand, so, I think(if you'd like) maybe you should think of another term? I mean something like 'sweet anime girl' or 'moe kawaii uguu' works, because that's what you're trying to convey correct? Just something overall cute and generic right? To me, what you mean is trying to convey an overall lack of personality other than cute, like this picture. The characters are just cute and happy, they have no showing of a personality or feelings at all. I also think yukapon is kind of a bad example. She did imouto correct, yes, but there are a lot of things that are very widely accepted as 'moe' and I don't think she was generic enough for the term.

Yeah, trust me...I know @_@. I'm going for the definition that springs to mind when someone mentions moe: Moe characters are always lovely, whether they be maids, cat girls, girls in glasses or whatever. Often they combine innocence and childlike characteristics with bodies that can easily be sexualized.

The exact nature of "what is Moe" is still up to debate for a lot of Anime/Manga fans. But, we can agree that "Moe" characters also tend to have a lot of physical characteristics that can be associated with characters designed to be your standard fair of "moe".

Just look at these animes:
Chobits, Kamichu!, Strawberry Marshmallow, Lucky Star, Yuru-Yuri, Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

You will see a lot of....Ponytails, glasses, cat ears, maids, uniforms and generally your kawaii-innocent looking girl....you'll start to see a pattern.

Now you can argue and show other examples, but what I'm trying to say nicely is....the one that has been chosen for this competition is this example. Because it photographs well and is easy for everyone to do.

I realize this, but since this thread has ties to the J-fashion and the looks that evolve around it. The crowd that tends to flock to this stuff tends to be less Otaku and more fashion minded. I realize this board is shared by cosplayers and J-fashion enthusiasts. So when they use the word Kawaii-uguu the term is a little different. If I say, Kawaii-uguu theme they think Dolly, because the closest thing they have to cute-girl look without it being anime is the Dolly look, thanks to Dakota.

Because I want more of a cosplay/anime cute-girl, I have to use a more "Anime" type of term so they know there is a different between the two themes. So, do you see and understand my position.

I'm sorry but the one who seems to be annoyed is you. The name of this, as CB has already said, is to differentiate between the uguu look that is used by girls like Dakota and Venus and all that.

The reason why she used Moe Girl as the "theme" is because (if I understand correctly), she also wants to open this for cosplayers. SO, if they choose to be inspired by a character, they WILL be able to translate the correct archetype into picture. Since the character is known by that. If the girl chooses to be inspired by Gasai Yuno, we'll know she's portraying Yandere and so on and so forth for different characters.

Now, my question to curious would be. Will some guys ever be able to join a contest? Because I'm sure that if they could enter in this one, she would allow them to use inspiration from a male character like Kaiji and kotetsu who is moe as fuck.

No, she wants people to just dress up like generically cute anime girl characters. Think galge. She has no desire to try to have people put across any specific personality at all. That's not what she's talking about, she's talking about a look. Plus moe archetypes, those are different from moe. Hell, they didn't even use to be called ~moe~ archetypes.

Huh? My contests have mostly attracted people interested in J-fashion, some them don't even watch anime or rather are not that big into it. Needless to say /cgl/ has grown a lot, so not only does it have cosplayers, it now has a large j-fashion following. So if I start throwing out certain terms about and most of my following are the ladies who aren't as anime/manga term savvy....I'm going to get a lot of confusion.

Anywho, enough of that. It's draining. It looks like the Moe-girl anime fashion theme is the popular vote so far. I'll leave the poll up for one more day. Then tally the votes and post the coughgoodiescough list.

The rules are going to pretty much be the same, without you having to submit to me a bare face photo. But I would require you to take a photo, nothing fancy of you just posting your name & date on a piece of paper so I know you're a real person and not stealing pics of the internet. Maybe allow up to 6 photos in a collage? The rules about Photoshop stay the same.

Originally I had wanted people to do their own "Moe" character, but I got a lot of slack for it and people complained the term was too general, how would I be able to fairly judge it. So someone suggested that I do something more specific, so the playing field would be even and fair all around. To keep things simple, I will keep the contest name: Moe Kyun/Moe-girl Anime Fashion

As for themes, I'm giving you ladies/gents (if any are interested) in coming up with a theme that follows with the blueprints for this theme. That side of creativity will be up to you.

I've chosen to change things up a bit. There will be 1 winner for this entire contest, which means the competition will be fierier. But, I would like to do these contests more frequently for example monthly. Of course, that can get expensive for a hobby, since I'm doing all of this out of pocket. My goal is to get these contests popular enough, that I can get vendors to take interest and sponsor prizes in return for advertizing or bringing attention to their business. So prizes can get bigger and better as time goes on.

I'm starting to like the moe theme more now that it's been defined, however I'm still a bit confused about 'what you want'. Could you perhaps tell us what exactly the contestants will be scored on? How much emphasis is on clothes and makeup, and how much on creativity and presentation?

Also, are we only allowed one outfit per collage, or can we use more than one to convey 'cuteness'? And how well would j-fashions like lolita or fairy-kei, as part of our outfit, be received? Is it better to have an interesting co-ordinated outfit, or go for a cat-ears-and-maid-outfit sort of thing?

>> No.6685732

>>6685679
Awesome questions, I hope my answers can do them justice.

The judging process will encompass the entirety of the collage you post. Did you just stand and take a bunch of pictures over trying to pose? What about your background, did you just take pictures in a messy room or did you try to use your space and do something like for example: do picture shots on your bed with stuff animals or some in your kitchen pretending to cook, or maybe playing some video games or pretending to be signing in front of your mirror. Another thing I will be looking at is the arrangement of your collage, does it flow and how did you try to add personalizing touches to make it stand out.

Of course I will be judging other things like attire, hair and makeup. So if your theme is meido, school girl, imouto, otaku, whatever...I want to see that played up. I want you to have fun and be creative.

With this being said, I will allow you to change up your outfit to convey that. I think that will be more fun and less stressful, just make sure everything flows.

As for J-fashion translating into Moe Kyun, sure. If you wear Lolita you can tack on some cat ears and play up that cute theme with a teaparty or something. Just remember in Anime/Manga when you see characters in J-fashion it tends to be super ridiculous and extravagant. Now, if guys want to enter, that is totally fine too, now you don't have to cross-play but there are male examples of Moe Kyun you can do. =)

^^ I hope this helps.

also, is just a basic school girl allowed? i mean i feel like i'd end up making it sexual (not trying to), because all of my seifuku are lingerie-ish.

Yes, this is more of a cosplay friendly theme. Just make sure it's an original character. But, you can totally pull inspiration from a favorite anime/manga. You will be bringing to like your very own Moe Kyun character via cosplay.

Ladies please remember!!

CONTEST ENTRY PICTURES!

You must submit to me a head shot with you looking directly into the camera. Please make sure the picture is clear enough for me to see your face (Makeup is fine, doesn’t have to be special). You will hold up a piece of paper in this picture and it must clearly show the current date, then the name/trip you wish to use for this competition. This is to prove authenticity of the entry and to help in the possible case of cheating. You must submit this photo to me privately. You cannot enter the contest unless you do this!! Your entry photo will NEVER be posted anywhere and will be deleted once the contest has ended.

Please submit to my private e-mail.

This will ensure that that pictures you use are new and not something you had laying around on you computer. Also, I will know this person is in fact you and not someone else when you post up your collage.

Imma season this post with some sage.

The submission pictures are not as strict this time around, because the theme is different. Makeup is fine, no need to be make-up-less unless you want to. Just no shopping your picture for obvious reasons. If I haven't approved your picture and you send me a collage, it will be disqualified until I get an entry picture.

Surprisingly, people did try to cheat in the last contest. Picture very much related...thanks to the Anon who made this funny shop of the girl who claimed to be this chick. Hahaha!!

Your very welcome and I really enjoy hosting these types of contests. Thank you so much for the support and I do need it for what I have in mind. Now, I have no issue with funding these things, but it would be nice to get sponsored support here and there. In order to get any sort of attention from companies I would like to approach...I at least have to have some sort of backing. I'm thinking of approaching Galabnara, because they actually just realized they have a market outside of Korea and the owner is really nice. No one will take me seriously without showing some sort of stability and backing. I've actually received some support from the EGL community, because they happen to have a Seagull as a friend. But at the end of the day, the girls that enter these things are Seagulls and I do get support outside of /cgl/ because they like to watch. I hope you understand my intentions. =)

=< Honestly, the people I've attracted with these competitions have been really nice and well behaved, which says a lot of /cgl/. I want everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. I hope you change your mind and do enter. <3

Like I said before, I don't have an issue with funding stuff. But, if I can find a way to get some support via sponsors. That would be awesome too. I would be a fool not to at least try. I can really see this getting bigger and better. So far Innisfree is biting and I'm trying to get our little community a little more solid before approaching anyone else.

I'm really looking forward to this theme, I might even join in for fun. Thank you for being understanding. =)

My own OC? So I can't wear sailor moon's dress and wig?

I mean, can I wear a cosplay of like Pretear (or some other magical girl, I have a bunch), but they are all cosplay-specific to a character. Or can I wear the outfit and just a different wig so it looks more OC even though the outfit is obviously from let's say Vocaloid?

>> No.6697181

So to be "moe", and when you say "loli", you're referring to loli-con, correct?

So is this about looking childish? I'm just wondering, because I'm trying to figure out what would look better: higher up pigtails or lower down pigtails (like what Gulper Eel has). Also, I can't decide between straight pigtails and curly pigtails... I'm Asian and i feel that straight pigtails are "cuter" on me, however I feel that curly pigtails are more... Sexy? I know "sexy" isn't the look, but I'm referring to like gyaru-type.

>> No.6697189

>>6697087
I actually think the first one is much cuter. I like the black thing you have over your blouse. I don't feel like the skirt matches in either of them, but the black thing really adds to the "moe" and maid look, whereas the second just looks like normal lolita. Normal lolita does have pieces (Wonder Cookie OP, and I see you're wearing the skirt of that print) that uses aprons.

It should be an original character. If the outfit suits the theme and you do enough to show that you're not straight cosplaying (i.e. very different wig/make-up, just parts of the costume and not the whole thing), that should be alright.

Moe in manga/anime (if you ask any of those seriously perverted guys who are huge into hentai and those pillows with anime girls with massive boobs as well as their mousepads...), moe is a word referring to younger girls (lolicon), sexual fetishes (maids, cat girls - anything that's "cute" with huge unrealistically sized breasts). Hey, hey. Enough of that now, we've dealt with this topic enough for one thread. We're doing Moe Kyun and for the ladies that are not as familiar with the term Moe-girl anime fashion.

I'm allowing you to have enough flexibility with your OC (Original), that if you want to go for more of a lolicon you can, if you want to go for sexy-cute you can go ahead. If you want to do magical girl or maid, school uniform or teacher. Whatever you decide to do, it must have a CUTE over tone.

In the rules, I also mention to keep in mind some of the stereotypical traits of this particular moe. Because we are going for a particular "type" for the contest.

Thanks for the input! I think what I will do is try and clear up some bags I've left under my eyes in these photos to try and make the make up seem less heavy.

I do have sock glue and I did consider trying to make it a perfect line but I felt like slightly messy sock lines were more of a clumsy/not so perfect moe look? Like a school girl that doesn't care much about appearance and more into her fujoshi books and having fun. I may be sprouting bullshit here but I did think about it when I got my sock glue out.

Would it be allowed to do some photoshop to make the wig seem smoother in some the trouble bits? It was fine when I left the house but British weather ruined that. It rained for the majority of the day.

If these pictures are fine though I think I will stick to this collage unless someone really dislikes a certain photo then I can see about changing it.

Moe: it means "a rarefied pseudo-love for certain fictional characters (in anime, manga, and the like) and their related embodiments."[1][2] notes that it is a pun derived from a Japanese word that literally means "budding," as with a plant that is about to flower, and thus it can also be used to mean "budding" as with a preadolescent girl

Thank you for the google definition? I'm not sure if you're trying to help or just trying to argue a point.

"It seems one of the biggest problems in the ongoing moe debate is the lack of any concrete definition for the term "moe." This has lead to all sorts of argument among otaku; some believe the term can be applied to any female character the viewer considers cute, while others argue it should be strictly limited to its original Japanese definition. Personally, I think the truth lies in between these two extremes. After all, language is defined by its usage, not by the opinions of a few crazed fanboys or some dusty old dictionary."

Also~ c-can I use the thread to ask for wig advice? I have a few I like and can't decide on which to use.

I'm just gonna post stock pictures since I'm far too lazy to take any worn pics. But they're basically true to color.

All of them are l-email wigs(though you can probably tell) The outfits I want to do all have pink in them but 2 of the choices have lavender as well.

The first wig is a bit lighter purple, while the second is a bit brighter. The pink on the third is a little paler in real life.

Ooh, I think they're all cute but I might like the one in the middle best.

Honestly those are all really ugly wigs. I hate unnaturally colored wigs with straight across bangs.

I was thinking that too~ It's the most natural wig that I own actually haha!
>>6698071
I like straight across bangs because they complement the shape of my face, my real hair has straight across bangs. Everyone doesn't have to like the same things, anon.

Do you have a heart-shaped face? If so, I'm completely jealous. My face is extremely round, naturally... Fucking chinese. And it just looks awful ebcause it makes me look VERY chubby when I'm not at all. PS I wasn't the anon who you quoted

I do, sorry! And I actually know what you mean, I have some chinese friends who have really round faces but are pretty thin and they always complain that they look like older chubby ladies from the neck up.

YES I HATE IT. I hate my face. I can never be "kawaii" without photoshopping my face heart-shape. I love straight across bangs, and I have them myself, however my face just looks so chubby. I am so jealous of girls with heart shaped faces. I don't know who you are, but I hope to see your entry! I prefer the pink/blonde (third wig) from your photo. I love blonde hair, and pink highlights in blonde is my favorite color combination!

Agreed, awesome suggestion anon. I'll start up a new thread and forward you ladies there. Give me a second.

1 is pretty, but I'm being bias because my favorite color is purple.

There, there anon-chan! I'm sure you're just as kawaii as everyone else.

Also thanks a lot guys, everyone said different wigs ;P
