If somehow by the grace of God I ever learn how to create armor, I would love to cosplay as Hardin or Zephel from the old school FE games but alas.

also that feel when I ain't got the new Fire Emblem game. Heard so much great things about it.

His sword will be relatively easy I already have it planned out when it comes to the basics of it, the part I need help with is inscribing the circular part with the script in this picture. And I was probably going tp do regular old lord (not great lord version) of him.
Is anyone elso planning to cosplay a character from any of the fire emblems?

Definitely working on Lucina right now for Anime Boston and Sumia for Otakon! Going to help the bf with Chrom to match those two, as well, and then maybe Yarne and Lon'qu in the future.

A little annoyed because I know far too many people who don't have the chops to do these cosplays/haven't even played the game/bandwagonhopping, so be warned if you see a lot of shitty FE:A cosplayers in the future.

Also did anybody go to Katsucon and see this guy? The cosplay itself was very beautiful but I'm not sure why he cosplayed "Marth" unless he really didn't even play the game to get that "Marth" = Lucina and/or "Marth" =/= a boy.

Speaking of Luncina cosplayers, I ran into one who was by herself, asked for a pic, then she went off ranting about how inaccurate all the other Lucina cosplayers were. I ended the convo as soon as I could. JFC I just wanted a picture, not a whole rant about how no one played as much as she did or how she knew the character way better than any other cosplayer and that's why their work sucked.

So bad. Who the fuck does this... really.

I did a zipper up the front and covered it up with the princess seamed panel which I pretty much just velcroed to myself, so it's more like an apron. I really like the cut out parts in the back, so it's kind of a pity that it's always covered by the cape.

Hello! I'm trying to figure out the hemming part for Lucina and Chrom's wardrobe. I understand it's done by folded fabric sewn directly onto their tunic/shirts/pant's corners, but what fabric do you suggest using for best effect? I stay away from satin by cosplay law but is it usually the fabric of choice in this situation?

It's card board/card with paper mache over top since I like the sturdiness - might give it another layer and then sand it.

Yeah, Sumia's armor parts are going to be a bitch. Unfortunately we don't have access to a lot of cool cosplay materials right now either (LAST MINUTE COSYPLAY). It'll probably be a combination of craft foam/paper mache again. I'm sure I'll be helping with that.

Augh, I already started on the Falchion by carving it out of foam and I'm not really liking the results, it feels really flimsy. I'm looking into making the base blade out of wood and adding details with craft foam.

Styrofoam, a hotwire, and a sled-type tool for the hotwire would allow you to get the job done for $100 or so (and that's counting paint), but armor cosplay ain't cheap.

As for Awakening cosplay, I considered cosplaying Henry, but the dude's far too scrawny for any non-anorexic male to pull off. I might do Lon'qu, MU, or Stahl in the future, though.

For fun while seeing this awesome thread.

Starting Hector with armors
Cutting leather, then carving, then try to correct all the errors. then boiling, and then Airbrush, strapping and other shit

Not using Thermoplastic for that kind of armors

Your thoughts? (First time with leather)

>> No.6683124

>>6682769
"boiling leather" is not what you might think. It's a term used for dipping leather in melted wax. the wax would displace the air in the leather creating bubbles (looking like is was boiling). When the wax hardened, the leather became hardened and could be used as armor.

You could water harden the leather by soaking it, placing it around a mold and placing the pieces near a heat source in order to quick dry. That will make the leather remain stiff and in the shape of the mold. After that, get some sort of leather sealant in order to keep ambient moisture from causing your pieces to soften too quickly.

For Fanime, a group of friends and I are going to cosplay some Awakening characters. So far my bf and I are going for Miriel and Gaius but does anyone have a tutorial or a method for making her hat? I was thinking foam with fabric over top for the rim at least, but since her hat is at a bit of a tilt, should the foam go in the cone shape to help give it shape?

I'm really excited to see other Fire Emblem cosplayers planning!

I haven't tried hat making, but maybe you want to look into something like buckram that's used in hat making? (I think there are some lolita bonnet tutorials that may be helpful..) Or some heavier interfacing for the cone of the hat. Foam is kind of a bitch to sew through.

I made a hat a bit like this for my red made costume. I used some heavier interfacing in the brim, but the real secret is using floral wire around the circumference of the brim and up the side-seams on the hat. Without wire in the brim, you will get a floppy hat no matter what kind of interfacing you use. You can either buy a thinner wire at a hardware store and straighten it yourself, which is kind of a pain in the butt, or buy the straight stuff from JoAnn and use electrical or floral tape to overlap ends of the wire and tape them together.
Pic related; hat in question. I bent the wire that way on purpose to suit the reference, which is another perk of using wire.

>>6685842
Aw, shoot, thank you so much! Yeah, get the thin silver wire, not the kind for necklaces or the paper-wrapped kind. They should come in a long, thin plastic baggie with the other wires. What I did was I used the seam on one side and the finished edges on the other to create a sort of channel for the wire to go through, and only left one little corner open. The wire should curve as you push it through, so you should have very little trouble with it. I'd do a 5/8" seam allowance, though, to give the wire a little more room to go through. I used a 1/2" allowance, and with the overlock stitch I used for the edges, I had a little trouble getting the wire through in a couple places. But the cool thing is that you can do this with the brim of the hat inside-out, then flip it right-side out and it's so quick you probably won't wrinkle the fabric. Which is good, because that hat in the picture is made from microsuede, so you can only iron it on the wrong side...
