This is a really unattractive way of posing to me. You can tell when there's real emotion and fire behind someones posing, and the way they hold their arms, and it's not here,
As a photographer, I like to get the people who I do photoshoots with to start moving and do a few seconds of the action theyre supposed to be performing so that it looks more convincing and they know how their body is supposed to look.

Look up pleated skirt tutorials. It shouldn't be too hard to make one, even with little experience.

The top, however, I'd recommend taking a scoop neck shirt as a base, then add on bias tape for the trim.

But no actually um, thank you very much for the compliment! A good deal of the credit for this photo goes to KDoran, who in addition to just taking and editing the photo, was also the one who grabbed the two of us to take a photo together and posed and directed us through the whole thing.

On that note, what do you think is the most crucial part in working with a photographer, /cgl/? I think that one of the most important things that a cosplay photographer brings to the table is the amount of direction that they give, and the more, the better. It doesn't matter how many times I've practiced a pose in the mirror; I'm still not going to know that the last shot knocked my horns slightly askew or that if I extend my arm just a little bit further then it'll better balance out the rest of the photo. I feel that the best photographers are the ones who notice these things and who help to adjust my posing/other details that I haven't noticed.

I feel that also being comfortable with the photographer is really important. For me, I feel like it's a lot easier to take more natural looking photos in regards to body language. I also agree with having a photographer give direction. Sometimes I practice a lot of poses, but in the end it doesn't turn out to be enough.

A good photographer, to me, is not just having a high quality camera, but knowing what they want on camera and knowing what is quality.

Black tooth paint isn't too bad. I've used it before, but the kind I used chipped off after awhile and I had to keep reapplying it during the convention. Could've just been the brand I was using, though. I know some people who it works really well for. Other than that I've heard of some people using dental adhesive, melting plastic, and fake nails to make fangs. Most people who've done that have told me they're pretty brittle, though.

I'll go over my costume since I didn't do much sewing for it. All I can tell you NOT to do is buy satin like I did because the hemming is atrocious on my costume (even though I used the non-shiny side). There's a lot I want to change and fix but I hope this gives you an idea where to start.

Anyways:

Blouse-used a shirt as the base pattern and sewed it that way. I say put a zipper in the back instead of buttons in the front like I did since it pulled the fabric. It only took me about three days to make since it was tricky to figure out where I wanted the front of the blouse to fall.

Skirt: I bought mine off of ebay

Though it's Asian sizes so I barely fit into their largest size (I'm a fatty) but there are a ton of different styles out there to chose from.

Then just red shoes and tights.

If you're new to wigs I just sewed some long wefts into a short wig and sewed a bought bun into it. I'm not on Damaramegido's scale but I'm learning more everyday. So please enjoy my derp face at the ECCC meetup.

Ive done toothblack for stage productions and non-homestuck cosplays, and I don't really suggest it. Not only does it not look right if the lighting isn't just so, but its very easy to mess up or go overboard and pass the point of no return for fixing a mistake. Not to mention it stains like a bitch.
The Grell Teeth on dental distortions work VERY well in my opinion, but if you leave them for too long without wear they become brittle and can snap or break, and I don't think the website has a good return policy.
I've also seen people use entire rows of costume fangs, which looks more like that one panel in HS where Karkat jams all of Solluxs teeth back in to place, so thats pretty ill-advised.
My method was to take an old whitening tray and attach fake nails with denture bond, but I'm sure there are other ways to make an anchor to your teeth that won't move around a whole lot that is much cheaper.

Only real issue is that they, too, can pop out if you bite down in the wrong way, and they (like really anything you're going to put in your mouth while in Troll paint) are magnets for black lipstick.

I also advise checking costume stores in your area and getting a little inventive, because you could also attempt making a mould of your own teeth from plasticine pellets sold at most Costume Specialties.

Well,I plan to cosplay as Karkat so I'm attempting to use the tutorial.It seems pretty stable.I have the bobby pin ready with the wax(don't have the fake nails on it yet) and its not so bad with the wax of course.I'd recommend that you make some kind of prototype if you have a bobby pin laying around,and bend it and see if you are comfortable with it on.If not you could just try putting the teeth on separately with dencher glue.I'm pretty sure you could wear the teeth almost all day, but just take them off every now and then(or when you eat/drink), to give your gums a break!

From personal experience, they arent very stable in your mouth and will easily slide around.
Denture glue is okay, but you cant eat or touch them too much because it's not meant to be strong (dentures are made to fit your teeth, the glue just helps hold them better. )
Fangs with denture glue can be wobbly and if prodded with the tongue, comes off a bit easily.
Personal experience though.
I've made fake wire teeth things and they just don't stay well.

While I know the price is hefty, I would highly recommend you go for Arda over animestuffstore as Arda looks more like real hair and tangles less than the latter's long wig.
(See: I bought that wig in a blonde and I ended up chopping off quite a bit of it to get the end to stop ratting up, whereas I own two of Arda's Luthiens and haven't had any trouble with either)

Yes yes yes. Priming fills in your pores, which helps give a smoother look and prevents it from sinking into your skin & temp staining, and has the added bonus of helping your makeup stay on.

You should prime when you wear makeup, regardless of whether it's 'natural' makeup or body paint.

seerofsarcasm also made a tutorial for her tavrisk sprite horns which it stupid since her horns looked like shit. They were pretty lumpy and very boxy. It looked like she just glued horns onto horns which she actually did so,,, I guess the tutorial wasn't half bad i just hope people see where she went wrong and correct themselves.

Not who you're talking to but for Vriska I made the base and then attached another piece on for the hook instead of trying to bend the horn? I used clay so I had one straight part then I formed the hook and then I just stuck them together and blended it worked pretty well. I feel like trying to bend the horn like that person did will make it too curvy and both horns are pretty pointy on top.

Sure. For the one I did in the image, I just roll it out to a point, fold it over and just smooth away at it with my fingertips. She has the idea correct but she's not connecting the parts together.

With clay or Model Magic or anything else, you can just smooth the area in to itself then sand it to the point and shape. But that's just my method, I'm sure there are many many ways to give it a go.

Not to mention, you really shouldn't use hot glue with floral foam because it's a weak spot and your horns will break along that fault line. Gluing a small second block onto the first larger one before you started carving with gorilla glue would provide a stronger bond between the two and help achieve a smoother blend upon carving.

You know, I never really go on /cgl, but this is something that I feel I'd like your opinions on.

That Feferi is me, and I'm quite aware that my face is oddly shaped. My face is rather long and thin, and it's usually why I crossplay -- having a serious case of ManFace tends to do that to a cosplayer.

I'm absolutely horrid at makeup and wanted to know if there was anyway you think I'd be able to improve my Feferi? I really enjoy cosplaying the Peixes girls and have plans to do the Condesce, but is there anyway I could soften my features for a more girly approach?

Oh I think you'd make a lovely Condesce! There's only so much contouring you can do, but going heavy on the eye makeup/using thinner framed glasses (if you go that route) will help with your face.

On that note, f you plan on rewearing your Fef, would you mind looking into oval frames? I think they might suit your facial structure better as the round ones sort of emphasize how long your jaw is.

The cosplay itself is really good, as well as the paint you're wearing.
But id say to try and look up makeup techniques that give the illusion that your face is a slightly different shape. It doesn't work 100%, but it surely does help and its not too hard to do. Another thing would be the angles in which your photos are taken. Different angles make different parts of your body prominent. I'm not a photography expert so i cant give any solid advise on that, but try to experiment/do research on different types of poses/angles that will help you get the look you want.

I think you're actually quite cute. You have beautiful lips. For softening...hm. You do have kind of a long chin but there are ways to contour it to make it look a little smaller. Try not to take smiley photos either, I find that makes the chin look bigger, Look up contouring tutorials, I suppose?

And yeah, sadly they can take long to dry but in a great deal many orders I get, it's usually the fastest and easiest way for me to sculpt a lot. Anon, oh my god, do not listen to the people in this thread they are LEADING YOU ASTRAY. Your makeup needs a lot of work.

1. Are you using a pencil to fill in your eyebrows? Do light, thin strokes to simulate having thicker eyebrow hair, don't just fill your eyebrows in with it completely. I highly recommend looking into eyebrow powder as an alternative.

I also think you should try to shape your eyebrows more, give them some arch. Vriska is usually given a sort of judgmental or superior look for good reason; you look bored or even a little bit scared. Obviously some of that has to do with posing, but some of it has to do with your makeup too.

2. Your eyeliner. Practice it. A lot. The bottom lines look too thick and kind of shaky, and the top line doesn't accentuate the inside of your eyes so they lose definition. I would recommend tapering off the bottom lines around the middle of your eyes and bringing the top lines down to the tearduct. You might even want to line around the tearduct to give it a defined point.

Makeup is hard to describe so here's a tutorial that might help you visualize what I'm saying... It's for a softer look but it's a starting point to try experimenting with and build off of. I strongly recommend lurking the makeup thread to get more eyeliner inspiration.

3. It looks like you sort of smudged on a bit of blue eyeshadow above your eyelid on the inside corners of your eyes? Don't do that. A better idea might be taking inspiration from "smokey eyes" looks, putting some blue long where you put your eyeliner and fading it up and out. And blend, blend, blend!

4. Your lipstick is crooked. It's possible your lips are a little asymmetrical - that's normal, and mine are too - but it's worth correcting. Use a little bit of lipstick on a brush or better yet use some lip pencil to shape your lips evenly. It's ok to draw "outside the lines" a little bit to even it up.

What you'll want to do is get a plastic container or something with a lid you can pop off or crack open. I tend to use the container the model magic comes in because I get the buckets.

When you finished sculpting, what you'll want to do is stick it in the bucket and crack the lid just a hair so some air flows through but not a lot. You'll also want it in a rather dry area. [Areas with high humidity, rain and dampness tend to take more time to dry]

Check on them every so often and flip them over every other day or so so they don't settle and go flat. But the important thing is to control the air flow to very little. With model magic, when it dries it's shrinking in on itself so the faster it dries, the more cracks occur. By slowing down the process of drying, you're drying it more from the inside out so it keeps shape and doesn't break. There MIGHT be breakage at some weak points but liquid super glue helps with cracks. Put some of that in there, hold it for 60 seconds then let it continue to dry. Super glue helps fill in air pockets of model magic to solidify a base around the broken area.
