Okay, I'm not sure what's going on in in this thread, but since the topic seems to have gone to the black-white subject, I'll just write my opinon.

Having a black skintone messes up the "color scheme" of the character.
For example, whites (I mean pale white, like Northern European white) cosplaying as Yoruichi will not look good. However if the cosplayer gets a tan, then it looks... Well, acceptable.
Unless there is some magical way blacks get whiter, then for me it's just nope.

This whole black and white skintone thing can be compared to fat and skinny body types. A fat cosplayer will not look good cosplaying as a skinny character, it's the same way with blacks cosplaying white or Asian characters, who are quite pale most of the time.

I think for what it is, OP is really good. I wouldn't mind seeing more characters having their costumes modified into something that resembles the garb of other religions/country's traditional clothing/etc.
my problem is she really needs to fill in her brows, and use higher-quality fabric, especially for her headscarf. And if she's going to keep Miku's hip accessory, she should have gone for a slightly longer and more closed top and then chosen teal pants instead of keeping the skirt.

Miku doesn't wear any of those clothes, it shouldn't even be called a cosplay - it's a tribute to Miku at most. Imo, it's the same issue as black people cosplaying white characters.

Im really glad I grew up in a place that I don't need to worry about covering my head and can wear a bikini if I want to. I think girls should be able to wear what they want. If some men can't control themselves around unclothed women, then that is bad men, not bad women. If she is happy to cover her head and has been given the opportunity to easily reject wearing it, then it's a cute cosplay. If not, it's creepy and forced and I would feel very sorry for her.

I honestly wouldn't mind it, but I don't know about the rest of her costume. I think that if you're going to wear a hijab you should get creative with the cosplay you're doing. Sorta like adapting the cosplay so the hijab doesn't look out of place. Using materials and designs that complement the hijab would be something nice and the cosplay would look cuter.

I don't think she's cute just because she's wearing a hijab. That'd be me being a hypocrite and trying to hide the fact that I find her cosplay mediocre, simply because she doesn't really get to incorporate the hijab into the cosplay [it clashes with the style and materials] and also because her cosplay looks cheap. Cosplaying is about looking alike a character. If you don't have any resemblance to the character you're cosplaying you shouldn't do it, otherwise it will look like a bad cosplay. If you use a non official costume, then it should be a tribute, not a cosplay. I have seen cosplayers from Saudia Arabia on Deviant Art. That country is the most inclined to muslim religion. I have seen photos of arab girls cosplaying Halibel from Bleach, skimpy Silent Hill and general skimpy cosplay, girls crossplaying males, standart Miku, Yuna from Final Fantasy X and others in events in Dubai. I realized that maybe I'm just prejudiced against the girl in OP because she reminds me too much of my roommate's "girlfriend" (I still have fingers crossed she turns out to be a lady boy) who's also a Muslim and lives in Indonesia (which is funny because he's a Christian himself & from Belgium so most of the contact they have 99% of the time is through Skype). And holy shit, she's so annoying - she decided to hate me 30 seconds after he told her I was his roommate, she is extremely 'clingy', easily insulted (or at least pretends to, just to fuck with him), keeps asking if he really loves her and crap like that. Listening to that just makes me want to kill myself.

Miku? The character designed to be so generic that fans can do anything they want with her? No, I find it very hard to believe that so many people actually like Miku as a character. They like Miku's design, maybe they like the music, but most Miku cosplayers choose her because they want to fit in.
