ITT: Makeup/Beauty/whatever

When it comes to waxing have you ever waxed your arms, Anons? I know some people are against it and say bleaching is better.
What do you guys think?
If waxing, how long before con should it be done?
If bleaching, does it ever look weird with certain skin tones? I'm white but not pale as fuck so I'm just curious.

>> No.6654702

I'm thinking of buying wax strips for my armpit stubble. It's hard as FUCK to get a good shave there. Probably just gonna wax my arms too while I'm at it. Strapless dress and everything..
I'm probably doing it right before I leave to go to the convention, but honestly I've never waxed before so I'm gonna stick around for advice myself

>> No.6654708

I bought waxing strips for my cooch once, but after I had ripped one off it was so painful. I was too afraid to remove the rest so I had to keep them on for about 3 days under my clothes until they dropped off.

I have weird grey pits /cgl/. Wat do. Even when perfectly waxed/shaved they just look off.

I'm dark white (white Hispanic) and I bleach some gross facial hair, and it looks fine.

Unless you have very sensitive skin or something I don't see why you wouldn't get a wax the day before.

I shave my arm and leg area, since waxing it would be too expensive to do all the time. I get my face area, the lip and eyebrow area, waxed once a month. I'll probably consider laser surgery once I get a career started and save enough money.

However with waxing, I usually wax my crotch area, Hollywood style. You'll get used of it, it's really not that bad (unless they're doing it wrong, I go to European Wax Center, highly recommend it if it's in your area).

I like to wax a couple of days before my event. I actually just waxed my legs today since I'm going to a party/date this Friday. I'm fair skinned and so I can get a little red and puffy afterwards. Plus it's best to not irritate the skin with tight clothing or the like, which is why I am typing this naked. The day I wax my legs I like to be naked for the rest of it and then sleep naked. If I wax my bikini line and put on underwear then I get ingrown hairs and irritation. I'm too much of a wimp to give myself a bazillion and I rather not pay someone else so I just shave it. I don't know about waxing my arms though. My body hair is really thin and blond so the though never occurred to me.

So yeah, wax, day of being naked, a day or so to heal up and then big event.

My advice would be to wax the hair now and see how your body reacts. I wouldn't want to try something new the day before a con and have to deal with anything unexpected.

BB cream doesn't bleach your skin unless you get a really weird one. Mine says it lightens your skin so I got really paranoid, so I looked up all the ingredients. The only thing in it that would lighten your skin is sunscreen. And that's good for everyone.

also it's really expensive.

What is a good exfoliator to use? How often should I exfoliate my face?

This is amazing, I have that black haired gorilla gene despite the rest of my family being gingers, and this was the only time I've ever been thankful for that. (Didn't work at all on my mother, they usually won't even bother trying if you have blonde or red hair).
Only downside is I have the kind of skin that will tan if I even set foot outside, so they will only do brazilian/underarms and not any skin that's tanned because apparently it can cause painful burning. Otherwise I'd have it done all over.

I'm late to the party, but I use an epilator for my arms, legs and underarms. It does hurt the first few times, but afterwards you get used to it. I epilated two weeks ago and the leg hair is only starting to come in.
For me, the pits don't hurt as much as I expected to. I avoided that area for the longest time, but that baby smooth feeling is hnnghgh. I do get some red spots after, but they fade shortly.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's enough, but it's better than going in totally cold.

So if I were you, I would look for two or three products that contain:
-a retinol (this is pretty much the only thing that will actually fade wrinkles)
-an exfoliator (glycolic acid and/or lactic acid at 5-10%)
-SPF 30+ (especially important if you start with a retinol)
-good moisturizing abilities

If you're insured, I'd recommend seeing a derm as you can get some bomb ass retinols by prescription. Otherwise you will probably have to feel around a Sephora (get a ton of samples) to figure out which products you prefer.

The Clarisonic could work as a substitute for a chemical exfoliant, but if you're interested in that I'd recommend checking out one of the cheaper knock-off brands first. IIRC Olay made a pretty good knock-off.

I know people have had good results from dermarollers, but I have zero experience so I can't speak to that.

I recently went out and bought Maybelline Dream cream foundation. I'm super new to foundation application and I don't know what I'm doing!

Do I need to get a moisturizer, primer, and/or powder to put on top?

If yes to any of those, what kind should I look for?

My skin is maybe a little bit oily on my cheeks? A very subtle amount, if at all. I'm not too sure. And in the past when I've put on powder my nose gets really flaky, but I'm not sure if that's because of how I've put it on or my skin or what kind of powder I was using.

Pic related is my skin.

Also I have a kabuki brush and a liquid foundation brush, are either of those good for applying cream foundation? If not what should I be using?

Thanks for your help.

Well, certainly learned a lot from this thread.
As a guy - especially as a competetive siwmmer - I was thinking of shaving my arms / legs, since I have fairly thick hair.
If my neck, stomach and chest are anything to go by, I tend to get easily irritated skin, and lots of those red bumps.
For my chest / stomach, I've just keep it trimmed and short to avoid that. Suggestions?
Side-note: what do you think of guys shaving their arms and legs?

And to all the girls feeling self conscious about your libia, I feel your pain.

after washing your face moisturize including eye area (with spf is best for daily use) then if you want some primer (optional), you can use either brush for the foundation but easiest to use the foundation brush and on top roll/pat the powder (optional but since you said that you have slightly oily skin a mattefying powder can help that, can be translucent or coloured. maybe something like mac mineralise natural skinfinish) lightly with kabuki. Finish off with some shimmery or matte blush.
Also, since your skin is nice and clear you can also opt for just moisturizing then a light layer of foundation powder for a more casual look/in a rush. I hope this helps.

I have hair on my arms. A lot of it. It's extremely light blonde and I'm very pale, but it frustrates how much of it there is... I'm talking about from below the elbow to above the wrist. I wouldn't want to shave it, because stubble on my arms sounds unpleasent. Does waxing/using nair/emulator (I think that's what it's called) cause the hair to grow in darker? Or is that an old wives tale? My mother INSISTS that my hair will grow in black and thick like pubic hair if I do any of the above to my arms. Googling it has led me to various answers, from, "It never happens!" "It always happens!" and "It depends on your hair/skin/body type!"

Someone please give me a straight answer. Will my arm hair be all gross and shit if I get it waxed/use nair/an emulator.

Yes. Always use a mask after cleanser.

>>6659030
That's why full brazillians exist.

>>6659062
So, okay, this is kind of half-true. Waxing in general does not cause hair to grow in darker, that is an old wives tale. However, hair on your arms (if you've never shaved it) has probably been lightened by sun/environmental exposure. So if you shave it, it will grow back its natural color. If your natural color is nearly invisible blonde, it won't suddenly become pubes, though.

Goddamn I wish my problems were as trivial as "wah my pussy doesn't look like a pornstar's and it makes me self conscious despite the fact that nobody but me sees it!"

I've got disgusting, raised, red (and even dark purple & light brown) acne scars and deep pits from my face exploding with cysts and shit due to a combo of super pale sensitive skin, puberty, shit genetics, and a wicked hormone imbalance, DESPITE meticulous skincare routines guided by several dermas over the years, and there's nothing I can do about it. No makeup on the market covers it. It looks like I had some infectious skin disease involving boils and shit on my face and neck and it never went away. Every time I go to the goddamn grocery store I get people staring at me and shit, and hell I've even had people walk up to me in the store and say "you need to wash your face".

Fuck all of you and your imaginary imperfections.

Because it's hormones and genetics.

I also have shit skin. I keep trying new products and it's not improving. It's frustrating but I've mostly reconciled with it. [cglhasnospoilers] It's also given me a certain amount of understanding for fatties. It gets really, really frustrating to hear the same shitty advice from people who don't know you or jack shit about dermatology. [/cglhasnospoilers]

I'd hug you if you were right in front of me.

I've gone through shit like yours but with less cyst and more red.
It's like a cross between rosacea and acne, and it will never go away. The makeup I wear does an okay job at fading some of the dark marks, scars, and pores, but fuck the redness.

Green powder doesn't help, I just got to deal with it.

Mine's quite worse than hers, not that I have more of it, just that mine is darker and and my scars are raised and pitted which makeup doesn't really help, and even if it did I'm limited with makeup since I have cosmetic allergies, all but a few brands make my eyelids get swollen, itchy, and flaky.

it's not your pussy, it's your perception of it that's the problem because of crazy standards. Like that Korean calf-slimming muscle removal surgery, it's a useless procedure for an imaginary problem. Your vagina is fine, it's your brain that's the problem.

Ranting face anon here, this is true for me as well. Birth control, hormone checks, expensive peels, laser shit, topical creams and washes that burned like fire, antibiotics for so long it nearly wrecked my immune system. Thousands of dollars in the toilet.

My last resort is accutane generics, BUT I can't find a derma willing to give me a scrip for it, I'm on my 5th in 6 years because they're all afraid I'll sue them. First meeting with my recent one, she said she would only give it to me if I could come back with active cysts. She said "your skin is pretty bad and you DO have a few cysts, but they're not bad *enough*." I was so pissed.

Incorrect, I'm very paranoid about chemicals and shit so I don't even drink from plastic bottles or use plastic cutlery/plates because plastic has chemicals. I don't ever drink soda and I hate sweets, pastries, white bread and fried anything. Fresh fruits, leafy greens, grains, and occasionally fish, lean white meat and dairy for me. If it weren't for my love of white meat I'd be a vegetarian.

I've got horrible skin because of horrible genetics. My mom had it, my uncle had it, and it skipped my siblings, but at least I didn't get the batshit crazies my brother got or the Addison's my cousin got. My skin's a cosmetic condition, a goddamn annoying, ugly and nasty one, but at least it's ultimately harmless, medically speaking.

Any one know if those 'hair, skin, and nails' vitamins do much good? I've been planning to go on Folic Acid to help my hair grow in faster (recent hair disaster, had long hair, had to chop most of it off and I'd like to get back to longish) but I see some other's advertised that seem to have good results and I dont think they are scams but I'd like to get a few other opinions if some anons can offer them?

It often scars if you don't have it injected with cortisone. But it's not inevitable. I had cystic acne for years with no scarring, then I went on an antibiotic that made my skin extremely sensitive and scarring errywhere.

Basically nobody really knows. Some people think it's a bacterial infection in the pores, others think it's oil, sebum and dirt trapped in the pore, others say hormones, and some think it's caused by sugar and poor hygiene. There are a bunch of theories and different methods for treating them but it's basically just trial and error and hoping you get lucky and that the scars fade enough to conceal with makeup.

Personally I find it odd that severe cystic acne seems to be a relatively new condition that sprang up in the last 50-100 years or so. /conspiracy theorist

>>6659823

The cysts I had all hurt like hell, and the regular acne just itches when it dries out or flakes over. Makes it a BITCH to keep from picking at it.

I usually just shave or use Nair instead of bleaching/waxing my body.
I think I might definitely need to wax or bleach my armpits, though. I have this weird stubble and can't figure a way to get rid of it. Lemon juice/baking soda doesn't do anything. Any ideas?

>> No.6659909

>>6659880
All acne is a bacterial infection of p. acnes. Hormones regulate oil production, those two are essentially the same theory. P. acnes feeds on sebum; more sebum in the pore = more p. acnes. These are also essentially the same theory. No one legitimately thinks it's caused by sugar and poor hygiene.

It's really not that mysterious, it's just an absolute bitch to treat because it's incredibly deep in the pore.

This thread is getting long but I've waxed my arms before. Baby smooth for 2 weeks, sooo worth it. However, when I waxed, I made sure to "sugar" wax (gentler for the skin, google it, I used the paste method), and yet I still BRUISED LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER. I looked like I got gang raped or something, or beaten. Heavily. My whole forearms were sore and green/blue/purple for the first week.

Soooo I don't know if I'll be doing THAT again.
Maybe it's because I did it myself. Hurt like a bitch too.
