Yea, I didn't have a problem with the other convention at all. Yes, you got a few glares or snide remarks from some kids or chaperones but that shit happens anyway. People need to learn to just play it cool and not add fuel to the fire, and I mean everyone.

The only major inconvenience for me was not being able to use either hallway that faced the parking garages. I took my luggage down to my car late Saturday and discovered they had somehow disabled the locks on those doors - you couldn't use your hotel key card to swipe back in like you could in previous years if the doors were locked, so walking around the front of the hotel in high winds was annoying as fuck. Minor inconveniences would be BBYO attendees jumping into elevators to go up 1 floor like from the atrium to the lobby/lobby to the ballroom level when they could've gotten to their floor much quicker with the escalators.

While I didn't have problems, I think it was a rather caustic mix because you have two groups largely composed of teenagers and young twenty-somethings who REALLY suck at handling unfamiliar social situations (re: sharing a space with people you're not familiar with who have a different purpose of being there than you do). Katsucon had always been shared the Gaylord's space with conventions attended by adults (the Christian marriage one, the military ball *which I really liked talking to those guys they had amazing stories*, the janitorial cleaning stuff one, etc.) Yes there were also large groups of student athletes but there again, those were by no means the same scale as the BBYO convention. I think it was just a massive mix of immaturity on either side + segregating things and making it seem like their group would be tainted if they talked to a Katsucon attendee only added fuel to the fire. It's a shame people can't learn to chill the fuck out before blowing things up that were not even an issue before.

I saw more bbyo attendees on the katsucon floor than I saw at their own convention. Friday they were everywhere! It was actually endearing that they were interested enough to wander the con floor than feel uncomfortable. Then Friday night I saw bbyo chaperones gaurding escalators and elevators making sure that the kids didn't enter katsucon anymore.
Id agree that this was just blown out of proportion because of the gazebo that was later opened to the katsucon attendees. There was a lot of places anyone could have had shoots besides the gazebo. There was a lovely patio outside of the hotel that was unoccupied and was pretty when the weather was nice.

Not anon you were replying to but I also found it a bit confusing with the lower part of the atrium. The BBYO had banners up but I didn't really see them in that area at all. I kinda thought the atrium was super public space for anyone to be in given that they have so many restaurants and shops down there. Do you know if that was originally off limits to Katsucon too?

Niggawatt? They should get whatever they paid for the gazebo, clearly (and Katsucon should pay up), but anything else is ridiculous. Just like Katsucon, BBYO was entitled to the rooms it rented and has to deal maturely with anyone else sharing the hallways and other public areas. Rooting for the Gaylord to laugh in their faces.

(Also, their 2014 convention is in Dallas. Wonder if they booked it at the Dallas Gaylord?)

What exactly are you trying to prove by saying that the Holocaust never happened? In fact, if you are accusing the teens of harassing you, then why are you calling them derogatory names? We appreciate the many comments that were offered constructively. We apologize to those who were inconvenienced by our presence in any way. We attempted to work with Katsucon staff to provide access to areas that were important to Katsucon participants, while minimizing the likelihood that our teens would interfere in your activities.

Online assertions were made that BBYO staff and/or teens made inappropriate comments and/or contact with Katsucon participants. We obviously reject in the strongest terms any behavior that compromises the dignity or well-being of any person. Should anyone have any information that clearly implicates another individual, please forward it to info@bbyo.org so that we can fully assess the information.

It is important that we not let the behavior of a few contaminate the good will and intentions of many. Several posts we have seen about alleged incidents are hateful, inflammatory and false. The vast majority of us know that there is no place for that in society. While BBYO cannot and will not defend every action of every member of our community, we will vigilantly defend our organization and faith for the values for which we stand.

Because the reason that criticism of Israel in general is not allowed is due in part to the Holocaust, which is judged as being much greater than any other group's persecution in memory. I don't personally subscribe to denying that the Holocaust happened, and concentration camps were terrible places and the Nazis had awful and inhuman practices. But the fact that people are not allowed to question the details of the Holocaust at all, and the fact that Israel has such great power over much of the rest of the world, is frightening and is wrong.

Obviously, that really isn't extremely relevant to this thread in particular... oh well.
