So for Lilith, because it's not a costume I care super deeply about, I decided to try reconstructing clothes from Goodwill. Meh. The taketop came out okay (originally an huge t-shirt), but the hoodie (which was originally XL, silly me) has major fit issues. Think I would have been better off making it from scratch, I'm not too great at this reconstructing stuff. Just redoing the pockets drove me insane. I'm planning on doing the stylized paint lines though, so that'll distract from a bad fit.

You have to rescale the entire file.

2D Menu> Change Scale.

It's required that you own Pepakura Designer (as opposed to its free counterpart Pepakura Viewer) in order to do this, so you should acquire it. If you'll be doing a lot of pep work in the future it's worth the money, and allows a lot of customization. I hate wasting ink and it allows me to cram more pieces on one page so that alone is worth the $30 imo

>> No.6647803

Okay well there's this tutorial, which explains how to scale the armor using the character/your body ratios. Alternatively, you could just figure out how wide you want the thing and change the mm accordingly. I've worked with pep a lot, and tbh there's no concrete way of doing this. It's trial and error. Definitely try the link though

Something that always helped me scale stuff was to take photos of myself from front + side, with a ruler or standing against a wall with a regular grid on it- then overlay the 3D models and adjust, maybe re-orient to match the pdo models and spit out a custom Z-scale..

Lots can go wrong, it's not perfect, but generally it helped me.

Also, if you've got a pepakura piece with loads of detail, assemble the big basic stuff first, then you can hold it up and see where you're at on scale, before you waste time snipping 79897465899 flaps out.

>> No.6648027

>>6647954

To add to this if you can (or if you have the time) try testing scale with a standard definition file first to see if the scale is correct.

A bit much but I find I get extremely frustrated and mad at the time wasted when I build up a HD file and only to find out much later it won't fit.

More slow progress on GaoGaiGar this weekend. These parts (most of the costume actually) are all made from PVC plastic sheets ranging from 1mm to 3mm in thickness. One lower leg is pretty much complete except for the drill knee, last cleanup, paint and padding. The other just has to wait for the expoy to dry overnight and then final assembly tomorrow. The second leg will be easier to clean up since I learned a few ways to streamline the design during the construction of the first. With the second leg Ill have less gaps to fill and sand.

Tomorrow I plan to seal the thighs with plasti-dip and start making the mockup for the upper torso.

My Quistis outfit is one of my favourites simply for this reason, and i do like wearing shirts with the bottom few buttons undone casually too.

in case you didn't know, corsets don't have to be made out of stiff leather to be stiff, that's what the boning is for.

One thing you should do is sew your boning to a heavy fabric that won't stretch and use that as an interlining (between the lining and shell of the garment) Then you can use whatever you find easiest to work with for the actual corset that will give you the right look without worrying about stretching.

The vinyl you've used is hard to get a nice finish on. You'd have to topstitch every seam open to get things to sit flat, but that is an option if you have the patience for it.

Finally, if some other anon has them and will post, there's some vintage bra/lingerie patterns that pop up here occasionally which might help you with the cup shaping. I lost the files in a harddrive crash unfortunately.

I mean this as a compliment.

So for me it's offically been a year since I've been working with foam a medium. I've learned alot and decided I'd take on, or retake on rather a project that is near and dear to my heart.

The MK IV Iron Man. After learning how to properly scale and work with it better I'm going to be redoing most of the peices of the costume. I've started with the chest like I did last time and the difference already is great. I've also built the brace (Something that I did not build last time, and am kicking myself for now, as I see it's need.)

OBJ or STL, they just need a mesh. Tris/Quads, doesn't matter. C4D is nice because the install size is low, the tools are simple, the interface is exactly the same on osx and xp/win7.. and I have a portable version that's 112MB, so I can plug a stick anywhere and chug away on stuff.

I like automation- pushing pixels around is a lot more enjoyable than sitting, squinting, sanding.. but there are cases in which the old methods are very efficient. Best way to get access to a decent CNC is to either find a local hackerspace, technical school, or build one. If Mcor ever gets their stuff widely distributed, you're gonna see some seeeeeerious changes in how stuff gets made, but decent 3d printing for most people and projects is way too expensive.

>>6652164
Well, Shapeways says 203.54 cm3 for half-a-sword.. Smooth-on says 26.4cu. in. /lb.. about a half-pound. 33" according to the game scale, still need to set up a tester out of wood or something.

Awesome, thanks man.

I am pretty sure there is a CNC mill and maybe a 3D printer at my college (for the sculpture department). All I'd have to do is get professor permission and pay for materials. If not there is a hackerspace nearby, fortunately.

Unfortunatly I didnt get the pattern for free, got mine off an armor maker.
Knight Artorias plates run up the arm, stops before the elbow and then hinges at the elbow plate, my forearm has movement and the gauntlets move independent from them giving me more freedom. If your looking to critisize armor for mobility sake, youll have to look elsewhere Dark souls has an odd sense of armor.

Back completed, well not really, still need to do some finishing and detail work. The brace, chest and back are all tac welded together to get an idea for fit.

Good news, it fits together pretty well, once I get the collar plates made and put on, I'll start sealing and paint.

Bad news. Even though it is bigger (in fact nearly too big for me) It does not want to fit on top of the ab section. It is currently gripping the my old, smaller crappy abs so tightly it can stand on its own. Not quite sure how to fix this so I get more room. I'm probably going to have to dremel out some space on the inside of the piece.

Doubly so as I'm making the abs again, as the ones shown barely fit me. I'm not fat and thats whats weird about this.

Any suggestions?

Yes you can. Corsets are all about layers and boning. You can use the thinest, silkiest bullshit for your outer shell if you face it with something sturdy like a twill or ideally coutil. Most of the corsets I have made have been: Outer shell (faced if needed), Outer & Inner strength layer (cavas or twill), lining (faced if needed)

I would venture to say using that thick upholstery stuff is going to make your corset harder to work with. It's probably going to end up fitting weird or bunching.

Dremeling seemed to do the trick well enough for the moment. I'm going to have to remake the cod/ab section in thinner foam as it needs to be bigger overall (I've lost weight and it's still too tight.)

Plans to have most of this ready by Mega, but we'll see. I know the week after I'll have it ready as im volunteering at a hospital in costume.

Upper arms are just worn and not attached to make sure of clearance. Still need to do some overall cleanup but, looking alot better than it did.

Have you tried linking or tying something to connect the sides? I'm not an armor expert so I don't know if this is the real problem, but it seems like if you had something to hold the sides tighter it wouldn't sag.

id say start removing links from the top middle near the neck and conecting those, making it taut and not hang and then start removing them down>? idunno

I was going to do that later but I may as well get around to it now.

Not quite sure what you mean, but pic related is what I was thinking could work. Red would be triangles attached and blue would be a row taken out so it forms a collar of sorts. Is that what you meant?

Welp, I hand sewed these because my machine isn't fucking working
But they're shorts for my Kyubey gijinka.
Reference pic also included, obviously.
Gonna stitch the little ruffles to the bottom now and add the waistband.

Looks like EVA foam to me. Which is the same stuff as craft foam, but much thicker.

make it a slight v-neck or use a piece of leather thong/strip to go into the top row and secure the ends to the edges of your arm straps

or you could try to use a contraction to take in some of the excess

Its Eva foam with craft foam details.

More progress, I have to figure out a way to close it in the back, cant slip it on and off since I added the shoulders. Still tons of detail work left on it. good thing what ever I rig up in the back to close it will be covered by the cape.

They don't really look puffy enough... I don't know if you want to fix it but you would need to use more fabric and then you could probably make a 'bloomer petticoat' with tulle and with short bloomers underneath to prevent from itching.

Made some great progress on my screws. Also the first time I found a camera worth a damn.

The white 'spring' is PVC plastic that has been heated and wound around the tube. It's not perfect, but I think it will work just fine for the threads.

And in a far more complete form, here are the screw heads.

The round head is all but finished. I still need to fill in the cracks on the hex head.
