A friend of mine was talking to another friend about taking a trip to Japan and wearing lolita while they were there. One of them was a newbie lolita and the other friend was educating her about some of the "rules" of the fashion, like petticoats, matching colors, shoes, etc. And the other girl was like "why does that matter so much?"

Someone I know was rambling about how when Vocaloid was getting majorly popular and the concerts started happening in Japan, a bunch of musicians started protesting/boycotting because "Vocaloid is virtual and made by computers, so it's taking business away from us REAL musicians". I imagine for a handful of people, it is. I don't have an extensive knowledge of the lolita culture in Japan. I just think it's a huge stretch to imply all or the majority of them treat it like their life and not a fashion, and even if they did, I still think they'd laugh at you before they got "offended". And if some of them actually take it that seriously, who cares? There are reasons to wear lolita the right way, but not because it's going to be ~offensive~ if you don't.

I learned about the Nanking Massacre in high school. Maybe standards of education are different where they're from or something...or maybe that's just what I deserve for asking.
Only other one I got is one I already posted before. I was adjusting part of my costume and some guy walked up and asked what I was from. When I told him, he asked if my stockings and cuffs were supposed to be boots. I explained that in reference A, they might appear to be at first, but in reference B, you can clearly see the line between the heeled shoes and where the stockings start. Then he just asked me again if they were supposed to be boots. Don't know if he thought I didn't play the game or what, but it seems kind of odd to me that someone would walk up and try to point out an inaccuracy if they themselves weren't familiar with the source material.

Huh. There have been three shootings in my apartment parking lot this year so far, and one of them ended in a guy being hauled off in a dark van. My car has been broken into twice. Nothing to steal, so they just got pissed and slashed the interior. And this week, my town made the news twice for dumb ghetto shit. (Yes, the homeless guy with the hatchet is from here. I think you misunderstood the meaning of the ring vs. finger thing. Any time you're working with powerful, moving parts (e.g. car repair, pulling large amounts of rope, etc.), it's pretty dangerous to wear a ring. >>6624994
Yes, I'm American, but the reason it's such a big issue is because flags have been severely misused in Hetalia fandom.

>>6625000

She had no clue what I was talking about. I presumed it was common knowledge in Hetalia fandom, but I guess the etiquette sweep Hetafags took in 2010 onwards hasn't made it to newer fans.

But beyond more specific, nitpicky etiquette, I thought most Americans were generally aware it's rude to let a flag touch the ground, moreover, when it's on purpose. This wasn't letting it accidentally dip, it was that she flat out laid these flags on the ground.

Maybe it's a slight overreaction on fandom's part, be we're trying to repair the image people like this give the fandom.

>> No.6625022

Also American, and I've learned to just be a bit more chill about the flag thing. Hell, for some countries (Germany, for example), it's fairly common to use flags as a blanket during a picnic, or some kind of outing.
If it's an American flag, though, I try to say something about that, because I know, in our country, that is disrespectful, and while I may not be the most patriotic, I know it can be really offensive to some people.

He a;so sat on his theory for a while before even beginning to write it up in The Origin of Species. It was mostly due to religious influence at the time - his wife was very religious. He was mostly afraid of the backlash that would come from suggesting that God hadn't created life.

He did also rush to publish, at least for Origin. Another biologist, Alfred Russell Wallace, sent him a draft of an essay where he came to very similar conclusions to Darwin. This pushed Darwin to write and publish Origin sooner than he wanted to (1859). The Descent of Man wasn't published until around 1871 IIRC, although some of Darwin's thoughts on humans had been mentioned in Origin as well (mainly comparing them to modern apes).

Which is literally just this person going "This picture of this item that is direct from a Taobao shop being sold on Milanoo is ugly, and you should shop at Taobao instead". Like, what the fuck? I can understand if you talk about how awful Milanoo is and people's terrible experiences with it are or how you might not even get the item in the image that is direct from the Taobao shop, but saying two exact same items from a Taobao shop and from Milanoo are ugly, and then telling people to shop at Taobao anyway just doesn't make any fucking logical sense at all and has nothing to do with why Milanoo is an awful place.

My reaction before reading your post was that you seemed to be confused and saying that people accused Milanoo of creating horrible products and recommending Taobao when Taobao stores would simply send the same horrible product. I now see that what you're talking about is the actual pictures themselves, despite whatever the final product may be; The same image being on Milanoo and Taobao being reacted to differently.

Sorry for being longwinded but I thought I might clarify my confusion which I feel other posters would also experience (I'm not the poster who posted that screencap).

>ranting about SAO since it's really shitty and there's better animu around
>discussing it with a friend who read the novels and also thinks animu is shit
>suddenly stranger pops out and calls us guidos for not liking SAO
>ask him for more animu he watched
>he blocks me
That happened on twitter.
Also
>"omg I don't get all these people cosplaying Magi and Fairy Tail"
>cosplays Homestuck and Kuroko no Basket

>"You're cosplaying from Evangelion, right?"
>happened 2 times, first when I was wearing Sayaka, 2nd when wearing Aina from Gundam: the 08th MS Team

I guess I get more annoyed when people don't know their animus.

Hey this reminds me of someone who I will call turboweeaboo.
>See, there was this forum where we all hung out and Turboweeaboo would go on and on about how great Japan and anime is. Then this one guy came in, who I will call Ex-Weeaboo.
>Ex-Weeaboo came by after many years of absence to apologize for being an obnoxious weeaboo.
>Turboweeaboo gets excited and tells Resident Chinese Guy (who mocks Turboweeaboo often) that he could learn a lot from Ex-Weeaboo. Apparently ignoring the fact that he was apologizing for being a weeb.
>Then RCG makes a lecture about Nanking and why he does not worship Japan (he likes anime and other stuff)
>Some intervention from other members since things got heated.
>Finally, Turboweeaboo said something that made the entire forum hate him.
>"It's alright. Japan should be forgiven because they make great anime and games."

You know I figure if you would have just blacked the fuck out on them for being idiots, that situation wouldnt be so infuriating in the present.

Why do cosplayers think its okay to spare the feelings of the moronic? I see it in every weeaboo horror thread when somebody gets a costume ruined, or something really rude said to them; you guys sit there like chickens in the rain and watch the shit happen to you. Yet seagulls can come here and crush a girls hopes and dreams because shes 170 lbs.
Ill never understand you fucking plebs.

Actually... you are to slice it into one inch strips, burn it, and then bury it. Under the flagpole of every US Army base in the world there is a razor blade, matches, sand and a .45 caliber bullet. Tradition held that the base commander if he lost the base was to slice, burn n bury the flag and then take his own life with a shot to the head.

Even if you wear a glove you can still get your finger stripped from the skin because you wore a ring.

Avoid wearing rings and watches if you're doing manual labor.

The stories are sort of long and the payoff isn't really worth the length, but I've had a few occasions when people tell me I'm cosplaying such-and-such a character all wrong, and when I tell them I'm not such-and-such, I'm a different character, they insist I'm lying to them because I'm too embarrassed/dumb to admit I'm wrong.

I think at least in the US, flag etiquette should be followed to some extent. And I'm not very patriotic at all, I don't believe in sending flag burners to jail or anything like that. It's more about reputation and how we look to the public. I'm not part of Hetalia fandom so they can embarrass themselves all they want and it won't bother me, but I do care a little bit about the general reputation of cosplayers. I know most people know nothing about cosplay, but there are normal people seeing what we do in public at conventions and at cosplay events, and if their first impression of the hobby is a bunch of weird teenage girls dressed in military garb using American flags as picnic blankets, what are they going to think?

If you want to know still, they kind of do. They don't mention it directly, but there's a point in the early anime where Japan one day visits China and then just slices him in the back and leaves him with a big scar.
It's never said what it actually signifies, but I'm pretty sure that's what it meant.

Whenever someone asks what I'm browsing (which is rare) I'll say, "Oh, just a cooking board (if on /ck/)" etc. I don't say 4chan not because of le rules, but so I don't come off as a le xcore /b/tard.

I never browse on a computer unless I'm at my house.

I agree.

What I don't agree with is American imposing their rules on other countries. If it's their flag, that's different, but if a British England is sitting on the Union Flag and an American throws a shit fit I'm just going to laugh at them.

TBH this is why I never have and never will carry a flag to cons. If your costume is good enough you shouldn't need one anyway. If you want a prop, come up with something better.
