I work for Epic cosplay.

I sell wigs for cosplay(and whoever else wants to buy a wig), so I can cosplay. 90% of the conventions I go to now are specifically for work. On the upside, I get to travel across the country to different out of state cons, my boss eventually wants to do cons in Canada, and she encourages us to cosplay at the booth(as long as we can work so nothing super fancy or hard to move in) All the expenses are covered. Lodging, travel, etc....., and I of course get paid for working the con. Unless it's something like a souvenir or excess over my food budget, then it comes out of my pocket.

My bosses have been super nice about stuff, like giving us extra time in NY during NYCC so my coworker could visit his future in-laws, and getting us tickets to see Evil Dead the Musical in Las Vegas.

The downside is I don't get as much time at the cons to do as I want, but if the booth isn't swamped or super busy(depends on the con) I can run off and go check out other dealer booths, artist alley, or maybe even a panel or two. Also my boss is a really nice lady and helped me when I was having car problems and is really willing to work with my hours.

I may not get much pay, but it's probably one of the funnest jobs I've had. It wasn't at first since my boss's way of thinking can be a little, odd at times, but she's been easier to deal with once I find better ways to communicate and cover myself so she can't say I didn't.

I always liked interacting with people during cons(Most people who have meet me at con know how friendly I am), and now I get to put that to use for actual work. Also putting in input for new wig lines is always a plus, and I actually do like to keep tabs on what people say about the company so I can let my boss know about what to improve. Since I'm not the owner, I don't get final say in anything, but I can try.

sage because this isn't related to the thread but I love the one wig I've purchased from Epic Cosplay so much that I'm thinking of just having you guys be my go-to for wigs from now on unless I absolutely need something else. The price seems really worth it for the quality, especially for curly wigs.

I guess to answer the thread though, I used to sell art at cons (magnets and bags and shit) which didn't bring in a whole lot of money because I had very little merchandise, but was just enough to cover my expenses plus maybe one other big purchase. I just today got hired as an LMT so I'm going to be saying goodbye to my crappy minimum wage part time job and start doing what I love, so budgeting for cons without selling just got a whole lot easier. As for cosplaying, I try to buy only a bit at a time and look for sales and deals where I can.

On the other hand, my mom knows more about computers than her company's IT guy, so people commonly go to her for help, because IT guy knows jack shit, and is an asshole.
So she started saying, "well my son can look at it for you," and I started getting about a computer a week, and got paid an average of $20/hr, but it's been a few months since I've had one to work on, though I should have one this weekend.

But no, I've never had certifications or anything like that.
Computers are odd in the way that they can be so complex, yet you can still get such a high-paying job by being self-taught.
I didn't know I was so computer-literate until I started fixing them. And of course by fixing them, you learn a ton of new stuff, too.

>Just stick in a stick a ram

For some reason I feel like you shouldn't be getting payed to do anything. More RAM isn't going to do shit in terms of speeding up their computer in most cases, with the exception of people who are severely lacking in that department. (Talking under 2GB for x64 OS's and under 1GB for x32 OS's. I bet you would probably put more than 4GB of RAM on a computer running 32bit windows and tell them it goes faster.

Here's a tip anyway for the "make muh computer run faster" jobs, run msconfig, disable everything non MS-related startup, including some MS things they're not going to use. Also wouldn't hurt to reinstall their browser since that's probably what someone like that is using their computer mostly for anyway.

Preferably, I would tell them, "what do you need backed up", back it up, and just reinstall windows. Especially if they're running the version of windows that came with their prebuilt computer/laptop.

For older computers, just throwing in more RAM would work.
These days, where 4-6 GB is standard for low-mid level laptops, I agree, it doesn't do much.
Usually I do things like install Chrome or Firefox, a free different AV (MalwareBytes, Microsoft Security Essentials or Panda Cloud AV depending on the person / computer / use), install, configure and run Advanced SystemCare, dust the tower itself, disable startup programs, and a few other things.

I really don't like reinstalling Windows, especially because I've had a couple times where I've had to, and they go, "Oh! I needed this program on my computer from 1982 because it's the only thing compatible with this woodworking machine I use! I forgot to tell you! Can you come over and reinstall it by tomorrow?"

On my own computers? Yeah, I'd definitely reformat it in a heartbeat if something started acting weird.

To be fair the first two are not bad choices, I haven't even heard of the second one though. Atleast it's not norton or avast, which I consider malware in itself. I would just prefer none.

Those anti-viruses aren't going to stop or protect someone from running slutty teens.exe if they give it permission. I honestly consider antivirus to be pointless. Slower? 80% of the computers I work on have an expired trial copy of Norton on them.
A lot of /g/ seem to use MSE + MalwareBytes, too.
Panda Cloud Anti Virus is cloud-based, and takes up next to 0 resources, but is about 70% secure, rather than 95-98% like most other AV out there - I only use it in specific cases where I don't care if the computer goes to hell, or is so old / slow it's lucky to open Windows Explorer.

Well, as per /g/, the best AV is Common Sense 2013. Free, takes 0 resources, carries over to every computer you use, ect, ect.
Just keeping Windows up to date blocks almost every virus out there, as a lot of viruses are written to attack the unpatched holes of Windows systems. AV helps, but of course, if you're downloading and installing everything you see, something's gonna give.

>chemical imbalances

Now that is a term I love to hear. Do you know that there is not a single test on Earth for "chemical imbalances"? No matter how much money you have, no matter if you ask for every physical test on Earth, no one could tell you that you have a "chemical imbalance"? The term is deliberately vague, what does "chemical imbalance" mean? It means nothing.

Chemical imbalance is probably the best example I could ever think of for a meaningless umbrella term.

(Serum levels of serotonin or other examples of similar chemicals found in blood are not the same thing. We're talking about psychiatry claiming you have a dysfunction in the way the chemicals are trasmitted in your brain, not the quantity of them, completely based off their arbitrary opinion with no proof at all to back up that claim. In fact, serum levels of serotonin are used in the diagnostic process of certain tumors, it's irrelevant.)

>So what would you classify the chemical imbalances that cause it as?

I would consider them an imaginary term fabricated by pseudoscience. I believe the question you're trying to ask has already been answered though.

Major screwups, not knowing how to talk to customers and whatnot. It just takes time.

As for getting a job, look into any family connections you could have, as well as if your family knows any business owners you could work for. Connections can be vital to getting a job. Even if it's only a seasonal stint it can be put on your portfolio for a future part-time or permanent spot. When it comes to any interviews, be sure to ask a lot of question about the job, but don't bring up vacation/pay or act like you don't think you could handle it.

I passed 3 already; if you have a 4.0 you should be fine. Level 2 imho is the toughest part and I used Schweser as well. I already was working for a financial institution when I started taking the exams so they sponsored everything (which is an added incentive because you either do well or look like a complete ass)

The job market is a complete joke and it's been like that since 2008. If you can't utilize your personal network, it will be extremely difficult for you to land an internship but if you want my opinion, go work your ass off and get a 740+ on the GMATS and apply for a top 10 masters in finance program since you already have a great GPA.

The top 10 programs usually have a 95% job placement stat 3 months after graduation (with the 5% being that one guy who moves to Zimbabwe to go soul searching or some shit) and they all report median salaries.

Average median salary has always been floating around 30k ish for a bachelors post graduation but these top 10 programs have salaries hovering around 70k last time I checked.

This was a long time ago, but I remember researching all the MSF and MFIN programs and making a spreadsheet of tuition cost, average GPA, average GMAT, job placement %, median job placement salary, etc.

Vanderbilt has a guaranteed internship program (didn't go there myself but I heard good things) and your stats are very competitive for them.

If you do a cost benefit analysis, the benefits of a masters far outweigh the opportunity cost of 1-2 years and whatever the tuition cost is.

I hope this helps and gl with your search. If it gives you hope, my buddy was ranked #1 in my university for finance and economics and still had to send out ~270 job applications. He works as an analyst for Citi now on Wall Street so keep trying.

No, I know the feel. I've been on welfare since I as 18(I'm 22 now) and have barely had jobs. My family never really bothered to help me, either. Their idea of help was telling me things I already know, then implying I'd never amount to anything.

I guess you just have to get to a point where you get so tired of thinking of doing something, yet never taking action due to the fear of it. Jobs where I have to be extremely extroverted scare the shit out of me, and since most work is like that out there, it makes wanting to apply for jobs difficult. But I guess you just gotta do it. Maybe start small and volunteer-- even just once a week. Build on that, and at least you'd have volunteer experience.

Best of luck though, anon.

No its the wrong type of help that my parents are doing by encouraging my welfare behavior. Instead of telling me to get my butt off and do something with me life. They just hand me food and tell me everything is fine. I used to have someone in my life that would push me to do something but I managed to mess things up. Last job I had was over 5 years ago and im still just as whiny and needy as ever. I just don't want to work but I need to work to provide for myself. I was lucky to get one at a home furnishing store but ended up quitting because it was odd hours and way too far for me to drive. They'd schedule me to stay until closing (9:30PM), and I'd end up there an hour after plus the time they made us clock out and wait off the clock while the manager did security procedures.

I now work less than 7 hours a week at a local restaurant while in college. I can only afford to go to the local con in my town.

Sorry to respond so slowly; I put in my first reply before leaving for school and am now just getting out of first classes. First of all congrats on passing Level 3.
I'll probably take the GMAT at the end of this summer or during Christmas break. The Applied Securities Analysis class begins in Fall and continues into the spring semester. This means I'm going to be at my current school for a semester after I officially complete my Finance BS. My question is what you would recommend I take during that extra semester? I'm taking an upper-level Accounting class now in order to posture myself to pick up a minor in it(if I don't take a certain number of courses every semester I don't get scholarships) but I'm beginning to wonder how useful more Accounting would be. Should I just pick up the minor or even major in Accounting or take something else like more Statistics/Mathematics? I'd take more Finance electives but I'll already have taken all the ones worth taking by then(Options&Futures, Investment Analysis&Portfolio Management, and Applied Securities Analysis). I'm not sure if I want to start taking grad level classes either because Applied Securities Analysis is a huge time commitment(the class involves managing a $230,000 university equity fund for the school and presenting sell-side company analysis' to local financial professionals, guys in it now tell me they spend 40+ hours a week dedicated to this class) and I'd prefer not to go to my current school for my grad degree.
I'm sorry to bother you with all these questions but I don't talk to a lot of CFAs outside of academia or my Uni.

Take whatever interests you and is relevant to the field that you want to enter. If you want to manage portfolios, accounting classes are suggested; math and statistics are great for the more quantitative fields e.g. risk management.

Math skills seem to be the biggest barrier to entry for a lot of the higher grad programs so if you ever decide to go down that route, take math classes up to partial differential equations.

If you're going to a HYPS school or a school that's tier I , then I would just focus on networking and finding an analyst position at a reputable company.

They obviously know they have a problem. The thing they need to do is push themselves. Learn how to stand up and get things done. There are tons of self-help books and websites you can use to kind of teach yourself about feeling the fear and doing it anyway. You know there's something wrong, you can either sit around whinging or stand up and say "ok, I'm going to do this!" and go out and at least try to find a job to earn more money. Do some volunteering for work experience, maybe go do a course on something if you want, just keep yourself busy and occupied and keep handing out CVs and filling in application forms until something comes along. If you want to just sit there and say "I know there's a problem, but it's easier to just sit around" then you're already defeated and there's nothing that anyone in the world can do to help you.

Fuck, you're not gonna starve, you already live at home where there's food. Being fired only hurts the first time, after that, it's pretty fucking cavalier.

I got a pink slip two months before I was "officially" laid off, and I spent two months doing things the way I goddamn wanted to because what, were they going to fire me again? It was glorious.

There is NOTHING to be scared of, anon. Even failure can be fun and funny. Most people fail. That's normal.

a study of something we do not fully understand is looking for applicable solutions that bring us closer to full comprehension, this happens in many areas of science and involves hypotheses, experiments and theories. i'm sure you know this already. this is the way research is being done on the brain in these cases. it's not sinister to investigate possibilities with limited information available. trying to treat something without understanding the inception is sometimes the only option.

>>For over three decades, scientists have attributed a chemical imbalance in the brain as the source of major depression. Now, a new study provides an explanation of how this “chemical imbalance” occurs.

>>Wait, so for over 3 fucking decades, you fabricated a completely bullshit term, told people it was real, and then AFTER THE FACT tried to prove it's real?

finding that a correlation of a lack of chemicals like serotonin or dopamine in the brain seems to be linked to depressive episodes - what someone would presumably call a chemical imbalance since there is less of the chemical in proportion to the other ones - and then later, finding that monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), which breaks down serotonin, is higher in people with depression, and using this to create a better explanation of the chemical workings of depression in the brain is not the same as making up bullshit and then covering your ass. what it is, is continued investigation into chemical interactions in the brain.

however if you are proposing the drug companies are corrupt, yes, that is true.

Why is it so goddamned expensive when all I want to do is get an unusual sized frame with the cheapest lousiest wood man

I have like six things I'll never frame because the framing cost more than each poster

>> No.6626052

Well, yeah, a good slice of tree would cost more than a thinned out sheet of one would.
Not to mention the wastage when you make the frame.

Finishing up being a full-time art student this year.
I have no idea where I'll work, I want to stay living in the city but my job prospects are slim and I don't even know where to look.
Probably suicide.

Well. Like I tell everyone who doesn't agree with the price: we actually make our frames here in the states. They're not outsourced like those cheap, flimsy, shitty frames. Besides, it costs labor to make a frame. That's not cheap.

You've got to keep in mind that when you're getting something custom, someone out there has to make you your frame from scratch. Framing will ALWAYS cost more than the artwork. Always. That's just how it is. At least if you're doing it correctly. You're paying to protect and keep your artwork for years, and years, and years.

Get the Michaels iPhone app. It always has 40% off one item, and usually has 60% off framing.

If you want discounts on multiple items, Google image search "hobby lobby coupon" and set your search limit to the last week. They always have a 40% off coupon online, and Michaels accepts them as competitor coupons (if you cashier is unsure, get the manager. They do. Accept. Hobby Lobby. Coupons). You can usually, but not always, pull the same thing with Joann coupons.

Never ever pay full price for anything at Michaels!

Mah seagull.

I sometimes buy multiple things (2-3, never more) and use the coupon for each of them, at least before they were okay with running each of the transactions separately for the coupon. I'll admit I'm a hypocrite because I used to work in retail and sometimes it's a pain (though because it was so little, they didn't mind doing it for me). But now they won't do it, at least around here. It's against the coupon's fine print and people like me abused it. But if I have to, I just go to different tills at this store with the two levels.

Civil here too. Currently prepping for my PP exam as well right now. I currently work at a consulting firm, freelance making posters and brochures because I'm bored, and I sell stuff in AA/craft shows because I make even more stuff when I'm bored. Then in between being bored I make my cosplays and things.

Glad to hear I'm not the only civilized one on here.
Good luck with the Principles of Practice. If you have gotten that far, and worked under a good PE, there is no reason you shouldnt pass it (from what I have heard)
Mind me asking what your firm specializes in?

Ah I didn't know it's named differently for you folks, PP means Professional Practice here but in short, I believe they handle similar content (ethics and laws). The firm I work at has many departments and primarily specializes in building sciences with wind tunnel simulations and dampening. I'm in a totally unrelated department that deals with hydrogeology from anything from landfill, construction/development, brownfield type of sites.

I am sorry your family member died.

If you're able, shave a small amount off the top of your monthly payments and put it into a Roth IRA. Do this in one lump sum at the start of each year if you have the discipline, or month by month if you don't.

No matter how long you're a NEET, if you let some of that money compound it will help you later in life.

Hey seagulls.

I'm looking into getting a sewing machine of my own to take to college with me, but I have no idea where to start, in terms of what brands/models are good.

Any recommendations?
