Just out of boredom and discussion, I thought I'd do a little survey.

>> No.6603070

>Which conventions have you attended?
SDCC, Wonder Con, PMX, Sac Anime, Ohayocon ... I think I'm missing a couple.
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
I don't remember exact age but late bloomer. We didn't even have cons in my homestate until like three years ago (so I'm told)
>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
PFFFT. The cosplay, the people, there's honestly just so much shit I love about it.
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Cosplaying and buying stupid animu shit
>Which convention is the best?
SDCC.
>Which convention is the worst?
Out of where I've been? ...I guess PMX. It wasn't BAD but I think I expected more from it.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
NV to OH
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Nah.
>What is your best convention story?
Not best but recent.
>Ohayocon
>putting on Kotetsu
>halfway in knock on door
>figure sister forgot her room key
>open door
>hot tooth fairy, jack frost and pitch
>tooth fairy looks embarrassed and asks if katie was there
>lolwut
>What is your worst convention story?
...probably meeting weeb stereotypes at the same con.

>> No.6603110

>Which conventions have you attended?
Katsucon, Otakon, Anime USA
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
15? Though, my older friend (and thus chaperone) only went to the dealers room in them so I didn't truly start attending cons until I was 18.
>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Panels and the opportunity to meet both the guests and potential new friends.
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
... Panels?
>Which convention is the best?
Out of the ones I've been to, AUSA is the best for meeting guests, Katsu is the best for cosplay, and Otakon is the best for the type of guests and the panel quality and the dealer's room.
>Which convention is the worst?
I wouldn't say any of the ones I went to are BAD, but if I had to choose just one to stop going to... Otakon, probably. It's just no fun unless you're able to split up, and when you bring your sister along that's just not feasible.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
An hour away to Otakon, lol
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Nope. Don't plan to either. Don't have that kinda money. If I happen to be in a country at the same time as a con and a guest I really want to see is going to be there, though, I may attend.
>What is your best convention story?
Hm, I dunno. Probably when I met Stephanie Sheh. I was really fanboyish towards her (I choked up a bit when talking her, teared up a bit too) and in spite of that she was really kind and sweet to me. I really appreciate that SO much. I want to get the chance to meet her again now that I think I've calmed down enough.

Either that, or that Tenchi panel I attended at Katsu last year. Met some cool people there. Sadly haven't stayed in contact with any of 'em though... But I hear it's being run again this year so who knows!
>What is your worst convention story?
First time I cosplayed. My wig kept falling off, I got really sweaty, etc. etc....

>Which conventions have you attended?
Katsucon, ColossalCon, AnimeNEXT, Otakon, AnimeUSA, some local ones. Still attend all but AnimeNEXT.

>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
24

>What is your favorite thing about conventions
Hanging out with friends and meeting new people (friends and VAs/Celebs alike)

>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Explore, hit the occasional panel/event , enjoy local foods, hang out.

>Which convention is the best?
I like all the cons I still attend but ColossalCon is my favorite.

>Which convention is the worst? AnimeNEXT. It's boring, in an awkward location, don't really like the venue or the offerings. Stopped going a few years ago.

>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
7hrs. drive. I live in the middle of nowhere and it takes like 45 minutes to get anywhere so it's not a big deal.

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Con, no, meetups yes. In Canada, since it's like 30 minutes away.

>What is your best convention story?
Meeting the best Snape cosplayer ever when I was cosplaying HP. This guy looked so much like Alan Rickman and he was in character I totally felt like Snape caught me running amok.

>What is your worst convention story?
Had my badge ripped off my lanyard at AnimeNEXT 20 minutes after picking it up. Someone grabbed the tag and pulled, I had some red marks on the back of my neck from it. I was pissed, but managed to get a new badge free of charge. Also part of why I don't attend ANext anymore.

>Community
I love you a little.

>Which conventions have you attended?
Wondercon, SacAnime, ALA
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
18 was my first, but it was also my only convention that year. It wasn't until 19 that I actively started looking for area cons and cosplaying.
>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Nerds gettin' together under one roof and all the cosplay.
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Wear cosplay, meet people.
>Which convention is the best?
Wondercon.
>Which convention is the worst?
SacAnime, but only because I'm not an anime fan so a lot of the panels are nonaccessible to me.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
Hour and a half.
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Naw.
>What is your best convention story?
Nothing much. I was wearing a cosplay and a cosplayer who I've deeply looked up to for ages came over and said that she liked it. I wanted to faint from happiness.
>What is your worst convention story?
My first convention (Wondercon) was a huge, overwhelming experience. I didn't know how to contain all that excitement, or how to interact with people at their tables. I met Chris Hastings and fangirled nervously at him, but he signed and doodled my program for me. That was cool.
Actually, worse than that was the secondhand embarrassment at one SacAnime when I was wearing Homestuck at the meetup and there was an unseemly amount of shipping going down.

>Which convention is the best?
I've only ever been to my hometown conventions more than once, so I have to be biased and say NDK
>Which convention is the worst?
idk i've never been fond of animeland wasabi only because every year i went there was poor management.

For hanging out and generally having fun, my favorite is ALA, Fanime is second
For money, I guess Otakon but I've had really good runs at Fanime and SakuraCon too.
For convention programming, WonderCon has the stuff I'm most interested in, but I haven't gone since it moved down to SoCal.
>Which convention is the worst?
I don't particularly like AX. SacAnime is just shit but it's also a small con so I guess it doesn't matter too much.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
Across the country. Roughly some 3000 miles.
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Yeah! I got to go to Seoul Comic World when I was visiting Korea a couple years ago.

>Which convention is the worst?
Realms con, it's small, horribly organized, and there's nothing to do.

About a three hour drive to San Japan, Anime Matsuri might have taken longer to get to, I can't remember.

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?

>What is your best convention story?
Sharing an elevator with my cosplay idol? That was pretty awesome.

Technically? I'm American, but I was going to school in Canada. I've never been to an American con.
>What is your best convention story?
None. Maybe seeing a ferret in cosplay.
>What is your worst convention story?
My boyfriend being an asshole at my first con. My phone died, and it was super packed. I get a little anxious around so many people, which is a normal human thing, right? I didn't want to lose him, since my phone WAS dead, yet he wasn't trying to keep track of me whatsoever. He was pretty much texting his friends the whole time. He ignored me a lot while we were with the aforementioned friends, which I didn't mind at all, but it angered me that he literally couldn't stop talking to them for 2 minutes while we were alone.

Also, I paid for his ticket, hotel, and bus, soooo I was expecting a little nicer treatment. I also bought him a present in the dealer's room (a figma), but he got me nothing, even though his reason for not getting me a birthday present was that he was going to get me one at the con.

I don't actually have an answer for either of these, it's sort of hard to determine. Best would probably be winning my first cosplay contest a while back, and worst is probably when a "fan" of mine tackled me at Megacon once and broke my cosplay shoes.

>What is your best convention story?
Met a real nice Solid Snake cosplayer at Sakuracon who kept me company all through the weekend. He also treated me to lunch since I was broke and not feeling well. We still talk to this day and he wants to take me on a date at Sakuracon this year.
>What is your worst convention story?
Got two. I was really sick at Sakuracon last year so I spent a good part of the weekend resting in the hotel room, and the rest of the weekend separated from my friends because I had to stay outside and they didn't want to (but I did meet Snake this way). I've also had a Belarus chase me and molest me at both cons.

>Which conventions have you attended?
Only the ones in Alberta.
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
I went to my first one on my twelfth birthday.
>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
The judgement-free environment, for the most part. Being able to catch up with old friends, meet new people with common interests.
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
People watch.
>Which convention is the best?
I don't know much about any of the other conventions outside of the ones I've been to, but so far the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo has been my favourite.
>Which convention is the worst?
I cannot say, for I've never found one particularly bad, and even if it has flaws, I overlook them easily.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
Five hours.
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
I have not, but I'd love to go to a big American convention one day.
>What is your best convention story?
When I met Mark Meer. I'd had the biggest crush on him for years, and I was so nervous. I literally froze with my mouth agape, and he's the nicest guy ever. He shook my hand, and seemed to genuinely care about me as a person, and he asked me stuff like where I was from, how was the con, and we talked about his game and stuff like that. He was really, really nice. I went back the day after, because my friends wanted to meet him, too, and he remembered my name, and kissed me on the cheek, and it was the best.
>What is your worst convention story?
I went to a convention last summer, and literally couldn't shake this guy off of my group of friends and I. I never thought I'd be stalked, but he just followed my friends and I everywhere, like he was one of us. I thought he was a friend of a friend, which is why I was nice and didn't say anything, but I talked to my friends about it when we finally shook him off, and they had no idea who he was, either. It was so creepy.

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?

>What is your best convention story?
When I went to DragonCon when I was about 12, I really didn't know what it would be like and it was really big and scary for my small brain. I got lost from my mother and started to freak out. Then I wandered into a group of people that turned out to be the Ghost Hunters crew, they helped me find my mother and also kept me calm through it especially since I was such a fan of their show. Such nice people.

I don't have too many bad stories.

I was extremely worried about leaving the con to drive home before he got back from the emergency room. >Which convention is the best?
Otakon, from my experience

AFO or Shado. Khaotic is almost there. Their venues are waaay too small for the number of people that attend. Last year's Shado's hotel was so tiny you could barely move and most of our time was spent in the room or outside. Though I did enjoy the area outdoors and by the pool a lot. He would never directly answer why he created Kami-Con other than he had a horrible experience at this one other con. I couldn't get him to name it, but having been to Persacon myself, I knew which it was.

>What is your worst convention story?

Somehow I always end up being the ringleader of a huge caravan of people to conventions. I often have to babysit men who are a few years older than me who can't figure out what to do with themselves or how they're going to get anywhere or do anything. One event last year, I ordered two rooms for our massive group. A friend offered to invite friends of hers to fill a room so we could all afford it. One guy, we ended up calling him "Fuckface Wilson" 'cause we never really knew his name... he was the last guy to pay for his spot in the room. Everybody else, for the most part, paid for their space right up front. The whole weekend he'd been doing little more than taking up a whole bed for himself (that other people who actually paid for their space could have been sleeping in), being plastered for the entirety of the weekend, and getting into a shouting match with some lady friend of his, making the friends I actually knew who were staying in that room quite uncomfortable. So, Sunday rolls around, and we're all out of the room by checkout time. Except for Fuckface Wilson. I thought everyone was out, but the hotel calls me and is all, "You still have someone in your room. For one, we're concerned about his condition, and for another, you will be held financially responsible for another night in the room if he isn't out soon." So I storm up in there, with a few friends following behind just to see the meltdown occur. So I get in there and he's just kinda casually taking a shower, I assume trying to wake himself from his hangover stupor. And when he gets out he just sort of also casually dries his hair, starts shaving, making himself look like some kind of a gorgeous J-Rock star, not giving two shits about everybody else he's been inconveniencing. So, I start pulling rank and authority.

...Dang, again too long, to be continued some more.

>> No.6607945

>>6607931

So I tell the guy, "Alright, sir, the hotel has informed me that if you don't get out of this hotel room soon they will be charging me for another night. If that happens, I will be expecting financial compensation for the night."

"...Yes, ma'am."

"If you can't pay me the full amount, I'll be accepting a physical possession of yours of equal amount to the cost of the room." I said this while eyeing a particularly nice photo camera in his possession.

"...Yes, ma'am."

He was starting to sound respectful, but it didn't make him put on his eyeliner any faster. So my friends and I then started physically removing all of his belongings (of which there was more than any of us had brought, and many of us had brought large costumes and props, and he hadn't) and just loosely throwing them out into the hall. We had just started considering physically picking him up out of the bathroom and carrying him out of the hotel room when he finally came out. With no money, of course. It was at that moment that I had to finally escort him down to the ATM to extract the money from him.

Lesson learned: Only room with people I know and trust personally.

Probably being groped by a Russia and Belarus cosplayers. ugh.

>Which conventions have you attended?
MegaCon, Metrocon, Anime Festival Orlando, EXP Con, ShadoCon, Florida Anime Experience, Holiday Matsuri, Khaotic Kon

>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
17

>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Cosplaying.

>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Hang out with friends and buy stuff from the dealer's room/artist alley.

>Which convention is the best?
AFO is my personal favorite.

>Which convention is the worst?
Personally, I think FAE is pretty awful.

>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
About 3 hours.

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Nope.

>What is your best convention story?
I don't think I can pick one "best", but I had someone tell me I had a face perfect for my character at Metrocon and it made me really happy.

>What is your worst convention story?
FAE was terribly unorganized both times I went. The first time, there was nothing to do, (one of the "panels" they had was literally a video of footage from a previous con being projected onto a screen). The second time, I waited in line over 10 hours throughout the day for one autograph at a small con. The staff just overall seemed unorganized and didn't know how to properly run a con.

>Which conventions have you attended?
Anime St. Louis, Natsucon, KKKawa-Kon, Archon 36

>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
I started at age 20.Today I'm 23 about to turn 24 so one could say I'm a late bloomer to the cosplay and convention community.

>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Meeting up with old friends and catching up on what we have been up to. Meeting new friends, networking with others musicians and taking pictures of cosplayers. Just meeting up with people who enjoy what you enjoy.

>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Reuniting with old friends and shit. Going to over-the-top crazy panels.

>Which convention is the best?
Best convention I've been so far has to either be Archon because of the maturity of the people and lack of weeaboos (it's a Sci-Fi convention) and an offical party sci-fi con with lots and lots of booze but still keep the traditions of a nerdy convention in mind.

>Which convention is the worst?
Out of all the conventions I've been too, Kawa-Kon was the worst. It's not a terrible convention per-se but it's not the best I've been to.

>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
Furthest I've been was about 45 mins. from my hometown of St. Louis. However, in May when I go to ACEN, I will count this as the furthest (Six hours)

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
I want to. One of my bucket list convention is Comiketcon in Japan since it's like the Comic-Con of Japanese pop culture. Hell, it's the Wreslemania of Japanese conventions.

>What is your best convention story?
Way too many. From me getting drunk and acting like a complete goof ball to being crowned the Nerd King at Natsucon because of my knowledge of video game and comic book culture to helping this drunk dude get back to his hotel room which winded up as an adventure by itself.

>What is your worst convention story?
None, really.

>> No.6610951

>Which conventions have you attended?
London MCM, Midlands MCM, and small local comic conventions
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?

Artists' alley haha
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Hang out with cosplayers

Probably London MCM

One of the local ones was pretty bad, nothing really went on

3 hours in a car
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Nope
>What is your best convention story?
Oh, man, I don't really have one

There was some drama with my friend and her younger sister a few years back, some dudes were creeping on them really hard and they got posted to some boards and it was messy as fuck

Multiple Megacons and Metrocons, Supercon, Holiday Matsuri, Sukoshicon, Shadocon, Animate Miami, AWA, Otakon

>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Dealer's room

>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Browse dealer's room and go to the video gaming or tabletop gaming room. (Despite the horrible stench of gaming rooms)

>Which convention is the best?
Megacon, because I go for the dealers.

>Which convention is the worst?
Supercon by far.

>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
Baltimore from Orlando.

>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
No.

>What is your best convention story?
There's not one particular one, but I'd have to say despite all freaks and geeks that go, I meet a lot of cool people. My favorite people at conventions are dealers that actually talk to you and the guys in the video game rooms that go to have fun. Staff can be pretty cool too, especially security.

>What is your worst convention story?
I went alone to my first convention and it was incredibly sad. Now I always have at least one or two people with me and I have a lot more fun.

Protip: Always have one night where you eat well at some nice restaurant.

I just remembered one for
>best con story
It's not epic but it made me laugh

>ohayocon
>waiting for sister to get done with something
>hanging out in game room
>watching Soul Calibur
>fat /v/irgin playing semi-normal lookin dude
>/v/irgin is casually playing and talking about frame rates and shit like that
>he wouldn't even look at the screen at times while talking about game mechanics
>the normal guy is getting his ass BEAT
>/v/irgin finishes him off while looking back at some girl and bragging about technicalities
>normal guy drops his controller down
>"whatever, at least I get laid."
>he leaves with the girl
>/v/irigin sits there looking at the screen
>some other /v/ type guy sits down and asks him to show him moves
>/v/irgin recognizes his ruling King of the Beta's and perks up to bestow his wisdom upon his subject

Anime Expo and a very minor one called Japan Expo
>How old were you when you started going to conventions?
18
>What is your favorite thing about conventions?
Automatically knowing you have common ground with these people.
>What is your favorite thing to do at conventions?
Aside from taking pictures, I like buying prints at the AA and if I have time, go to panels. Also, nerding it out with strangers. Metal Gear Bros, I wish I had your contacts.
>Which convention is the best?
>Which convention is the worst?
Don't think I can answer these since I don't really have that much to compare. Although, a fair warning to people interested in Japan Expo: It's not exactly cosplay-centric.
>How far have you traveled to go to a convention?
LA to Anaheim
>Have you ever gone to a convention outside your country?
Nope
>What is your best convention story?
Mildly amusing story of me asking a J-List booth for a game:
>Me: Do you have Umineko?
>Clerk: Maybe. Can you be more specific?
>Me: It's not porn.
>Clerk: Nope, don't have it.

Then another when I found out someone I went to school with did promo art for a game I like. Turns out, one of the staff involved liked her art and asked if she was interested in helping. Was inspiring.
>What is your worst convention story?
Asshole roommates. Lost my camera. Remembering the times that I was a meme-spouting dipshit.

Chance to see my distant friends, run panels, and "perform"

Eh... dunno. Animefest is one of the last ones I can still tolerate but even it is getting annoying. Giving San Japan and D*c a try this year.
