If I had the money for two color sleeves (see: never) I've thought a leaf/foliage pattern along both arms sort of like the skin pattern on Sylvari in GW2 might be cool, especially if it used a more autumn color set of orange to red (my hair's auburn, so if the colors could match that'd be sweet).

Question though, for people here who do have some - what do you do to cover them up when you need to that area to be normal skin?

Huh I was just at the tattoo parlor the other day keeping my friend company while she got a fox on her shoulder.

I've considered getting a tattoo but if I do it I want it to be in the ink you can only see under certain light. I was thinking a few stars across my back or something (though that sounds very cliche I'm sure)

However after I looked it up and heard enough stories about the inky still being experimental and how quiet a few people find their bodies reject it and it leads to not always good things... I'll hold off on it till the process of UV tattoos gets a bit more solid.

It's just the face of one of the characters from the comic within the comic. It doesn't really mean anything. The original is supposed to be hideously jpeg-artifacts anyway, so the terrible quality was (presumably intentionally) transferred to tattoo to keep to form.

Most of the stuff I cosplay (Other than my shitlevel Finn cosplay) is stuff that requires me to cover up my tattoos, and they're all in easily covered up areas. I like good tattoos on people, I think they accent the body nicely and yada yada yada display of self expression blah blah blah lookit the commitment.

Long story short thread, if you're going to get tattoo, you better be damn sure you check the shop your going to, prepare to spend money and make sure you'll love it forever...like how I'll always love Star Wars and Folk-Punk.

Swimming pools, some onsen, and some gyms. Tattoos are associated with the yakuza in Japan so in order to keep yakuza out of their facilities, they ban tattoos. But it really depends, when I lived in Beppu, none of the Onsen bothered banning tattoos, but in Tokyo the two big onsen places are explicitly clear about tattoos. We saw two other foreigners get kicked out for having tattoos (they only covered with bandages, we used make up and patches).

It's not really that big of a deal. My husband has a tebori tattoo and the only place he gets strange looks is in the country. You can even go to onsen, just get a private bath.

Public baths are no go though in most areas, but washing up next to a bunch of strangers probably isn't something you'll regret not being able to do.

Most that I ask say its about the nostalgia for them.

While that is also true for me, my biggest draws to the series are the actual overarching story and the music.

The legend in itself is very interesting to me. There's a sense of wonder, and of course magic to it. Its like..its like playing through a fairy tale. You already know whats going to happen. Good will triumph over Evil etc etc, but its the getting-there and the interactions in between with the characters that pushes you into the world more. And its not just one tale, or one short story. It's an epic. An ever sprawling, ever expanding epic.

Someone had once said that you should look at each Zelda game as having a basic story, but a different narrator. The games have you experience the stories in different contexts and with different characters.

And then there's the music. Its very obvious that the music of the series is beloved amongst gamers. How else would they do a bicontinental symphony tour? I dont feel emotions very strongly. There are very few things that can really pull at my heart and make me *feel*. The series music is definitely one of them. To feel like I can take on the world I'll listen to the theme. If I need to cry, the Ballad of the Wind Fish. If I want to laugh dance and generally be merry, well there's lots for that. Hyrule Castle Town, Lost Woods, Dragon Roost Island. And then if I want something a little more twisted? There's the entire Majora's Mask soundtrack.

I dont even feel like I've properly expressed exactly why I love the series. I cant put it into words.

When I was living in Japan I went to the public bath quite a bit. They had it in our dorms so it was fine. The one girl that stayed in our dorm had a huge tattoo on her lower back, and I had an ankle tattoo. No one minded.

I think the idea is that Homestuck is a bandwagon. Getting a tattoo of something you've only liked for a year or two is risky. Because most people grow out of things quickly, and one day you might look at your huge-ass MSPaint-inspired tattoo and regret it. It might look very similar to those ugly yaoi-esque Naruto tattoos.

You run this risk with all fandom art, but things like LoZ at least have enough lonegevity that you could have been playing the games for a decade or two, and therefore know that this phase is going to involve a large portion of your life.

By now, it's established enough that people may have spent the majority of, if not their entire, lives playing the series. No one is saying Homestuck isn't "good enough' to have a tattoo of, just that, as far as series go, it's kind of too soon to determine if you want it on your body for the rest of your life, if you're not completely, 100% certain that it's something you'll enjoy for the rest of your life, even once the series is over, and the popularity has waned. One of my professors in school had a great rule for tattoos: wait until you're 21, and have wanted the same tattoo in the same place for five years. If you still want it after five years, you'll probably still like it down the line, even if you'd fallen out of the fandom/enjoyment of whatever it is you got the tattoo of, it'll remind you of good memories made during that time. Like friends made, good experience, etc. If in five years I still look on Homestuck fondly, if only for good memories, I'll get it done.

That said, one I HAVE wanted for that long is Sailor Moon's locket. It's pretty common/hipster now, but Sailor Moon HAS had an incredible impact on me, and especially in my childhood years. Any tattoo's gonna be embarrassing and weird on an old lady, but hopefully I'd still look on it and smile.
