Hi fellow seagulls, I have a question I hoped I could get answered. I'm setting up my first booth at my con's Artist Alley. I planned to sell mini prints of my artwork, 4"x6" specifically.

How many of each print would be good to have on hand? And is $2/print asking too much for it? (My art is pretty alright, not the best in the world but not 'How To Draw Animu and Mango' level)

We already have an Artist Alley thread >6496056 but I'll answer your questions anyway.

>How many of each print would be good to have on hand?
That depends on how big your con is. If it's like the smaller end (the ones held in hotels etc) - something around 5~6? If it's a bigger con, I'd take more. I think I take around 10~15 of my smaller prints to AX and around 20~30 of my poster sized prints.

>And is $2/print asking too much for it?
I usually ask for $3 each, or 4 for $10. I have friends who do $4 each, 3 for $10.

We need sampled of your art and/or that of your friends that sell for more.

These are a half dozen samples of the prints I plan to sell, they're sort of a mixed bag between my regular style and the more cartoony type.

My plan for the 4"x6" was originally $2 each, but I'm still worried it's too much. I don't have that much confidence in my art I'm afraid, haha...

I'm not going to go on the whole "art crit" side because I'm not so good at that anyways, but I would definitely buy some of these! Especially for $2! I like Sailor Moon and Adventure Time the most out of these but I also like the elaborate bottom left one. You might get away with charging a little bit more.

The strawberry one I'm not so sure is the best idea for a print that size.It seems like a lot of the detail will get lost. It would probably work better on a bigger format, or if either the figure was bigger or the border smaller. I see you've put a ton of details into the ribbons and butterflies and frills and people will have to squint to even see half of it.

Most 4x6 prints actually sell for more like 4-7$ $2 isn't enough because even if you don't think so, your art is worth more than just $2 and it's not good for anyone including other artists if you try to undersell your art.

Keep in mind its always easier to go down in price then up in price at a convention. New artists by nature over value or under value their artwork and considering your prices you're doing the later. Don't be afraid to set your prices higher than you think its worth early in the weekend. Then if a few hours in and very little is selling and you're getting a lot of negative reactions then lower them little by little and try to find your sweet spot in price.

Also consider doing a combo deal as well like I sell buttons at 1-$2 and 3-$5. Its a helpful way to push sales on items that aren't your top sellers.

A lot of places give away 4x6 prints for signing up with them for the first time.

Just stopping by but why isnt it good for other artists?

Sometimes price wars start happening and other artists start thinking that they should lower their prices as well.
In the end everyone just ends up underselling what the art is actually worth and no one makes a profit in return for the hours of work they put into the drawings.
