Hey HSG, I'm planning on making a trickster!Jade, but because I hate how everyone does the same Jizzybro designs over and over again, I decided to design my own. I'm doing the electica dress, and making it icecream themed!
I was thinking of doing the top as a waffle cone and the bottom being the icecream w/ sprinkles.
And then the squiddles on her shoes and jacket will resemble icecream!

I haven't decided yet! The Skirt is white with rainbow sprinkles and the top is normal waffle cone color. I'm thinking of making the sash light blue or pink, and the undershirt might be pink too.
Same with the tights. I honeslty havent figured it all out yet. Only the skirt and top.

how do you guys think one would go about styling a kanaya wig? i've tried hair curlers and everything it seems, but nothing stays. and yes, i use hairspray/gel.

Don't use gel, it won't adhere well and will generally just weigh your fibers down. Hairspray is fine, for the best hold use something like Got2B.

Are you applying heat when you curl? Use a blowdryer on a warm setting (not the hottest) and either let it cool completely on its own or use the cool setting to speed up the process. Making sure the fiber is cool to the touch before removing curlers, pins, etc is key to making sure your style holds, otherwise the fiber will still be malleable when you remove it from the rollers, and may flop down under its own weight.

I know canonically Homestuck characters can be any race or weight you want, and some of my favorite Homestuck cosplayers are larger.

But am I the only one who thinks that fat Kurloz just looks terrible? No matter how accurate the costume, wearing the skeleton suit looks stupid if you're a fat fuck. It's emphasizing the fat and it just looks funny/pathetic.

Fat Gamzee looks fine but fat Kurloz I just can't stand.

Don't worry about finding something that is exactly your fit, as she wears an oversized coat. In fact, I really like it more when canon Nepeta's go for the baggy look on the coat too, as a tailored jacket for a kooky hunter is really out of place.

I agree. Skintight suits are extremely unforgiving, especially Kurloz's, which emphasizes the body structure through the bones and is "canon" as skintight.

I really have issues with the whole "you can cosplay whoever you want" mentality, because working with your body type and natural features can really make yourself look amazing. And it's not just mindless "fatphobia", but just how clothing works in general.

Even though I would love to cosplay Kankri or Equius, I know that turtlenecks make my face look bloated, and the moment I stepped outside as the latter, every person within a five mile radius would join in a rousing chorus of "DO YOU EVEN LIFT?". I also have the problem of being in my mid-twenties, which makes cosplaying any kids a poor choice, as I would especially look awkward in a meet-up full of young teens.

Also seconding the support for fat Gamzee. I mean, he's based off of juggalos, and they're typically nothing like the lanky stereotype the fandom clings too.

I'd definitely try military surplus stores then. Almost everything is unisex/male sizes, and the armed forces really loves olive drab.

Try to see if there are any in your area. The online shops I found seem to have really high prices and low selection, and you can't get a 100% accurate representation of the color and fit.

Hunting/outdoors and even sports shops may also have good options too, but the prices will probably be really high.

This. Especially since it isn't just notably fat cosplayers who fall victim. Awkward lumps and bodysuits do not go well together, and since Homestuck has many female cosplayers, people really need to watch their curves.

I can't hide my hips except in posing, but I'm still wearing two pairs of spanx and multiple binders for that outfit, since the closer to my skeleton shape you get, the better it's going to look. I actually think that's kind of a cute interpretation, using a beach sarong as her skirt since her top is supposed to be a swimsuit anyway. That said, she should have followed the way the fabrics mesh in canon for it to really look good, and definitely resituated her skirt and made a smaller knot.

I actually think they look pretty cute. I'm generally not a big fan of the thigh high Dave look, but it just looks like a comfy home shoot and for that I'd say it's fine. It's when people go out in con scenes and prance around like that in front of kids that it turns sketchy.

For example: Roxy has never been shown in anything but practical footwear, and lives a life that demands constant vigilance and the ability to run at a moments notice.
Heels would not suit her in the slightest.

Mary janes for Rose'd be plausible enough as she's lived in luxury with nothing that'd require her to be quick on her feet.

I think that Equius may be a girl? If so, it's hard enough to build muscle without shelling out for free weights (when I lived in the south you could get them cheap off craigslist but now I'm on the west coat and it's fucking weirdly pricey) and girls have to be a lot more dedicated to build muscle and have it show.
