Calling all Midwesterners! Is anyone going to this? I just moved up here, so I'd like to meet some seagulls.

You should decide soon. I'll be going for sure to see Nobuo. The only panel I usually go to is the Anime Tunes one. The people who run it go everywhere. I see them at every con I go to.

Three years ago it was still at the local university.
Two years ago it took over a hotel and convention center.
Last year it had spread from the hotel into the nearby convention center that the massive Gen Con used to be at. It has gotten HUGE and this year is only going to be bigger and better I think.

Having gone to all three of the four Final Fantasy concerts that have gone down in Chicago (I only passed on the most recent one in December since I can see the same show in Milwaukee), I'm really concerned about the retardation of the audience.

People were well-dressed at the first two Nobuo Uematsu concerts but a bunch of faggots in t-shirts and mediocre cosplay were at the third one and there were even two cuntflaps in SONIC THE FUCKING HEDGEHOG HATS.

I expect it will only be worse in Milwaukee at the time of an anime convention. If I see a fucking Homestuck troll at the concert I will spit blood.

As for OP, my first time at AMKE was about 4 years ago. Seeing it grow so large is really impressive, since it feels like no one knows animu here. Go to the panels if you find something interesting. The video game room is nice, and the con isn't too crowded since it occupies the convention center and the hotel. I like how they moved the dealer's room from the second floor of the hotel to the Frontier Airlines center because the room is a lot bigger. The only downside is that it's kinda far, but you can't miss it since it's right by the registration area.

The maid cafe is nice. I'll be participating in it this year. We'll see how that goes. They sell like cake and tea there. I really like the view from Polaris. At night, there's a Speed Dating thing held there. I advise that you get there early if you're interested in that.

As for food, George Webb is slow as fuck. There's a Subway around the corner and the mall isn't too far from the hotel. Dominos is pretty close too and there are two really good Thai places across the street from the hotel.

If you need to know anything else, I'll be happy to help. I know the area there quite well since it's close to school.

The AMKE maid cafe is the most professional, not embarrassing maid cafe I've seen at an anime convention. Having it at a classy restaurant with an amazing view and decent food is really nice.

I'm concerned it's going to be impossible to top the lolita fashion show compared to last year since it was 90% quality BtSSB stuff and the person running it moved away.

I'd like to think panels will be more varied and original this year than int he past since it's gotten so much bigger. Really, though, you see a lot of the same panels at a LOT of conventions though.

I love amke, I'm actually going to be staffing it this year. Not a big position or anything. We have really upped the staff couldn't at the reg area so there should be no super long lines like last year. Someone also mentioned at one of the meetings we are going to have a moble site.

I think that for the last two years there has been a dance competition at the same time as AMKE. I remember seeing them the first time it was at the Hyatt when I was wandering around.

What events do you guys go to? Usually the Masquerade isn't very impressive but I like to see the costumes. Do you guys know if they're doing that cosplay auction this year? I remember it was held right after the Masquerade two years ago, and it was really depressing.

I was in the masq last year, there werent many impressive costumes, but it is somewhat new and Milwaukee isn't known for its fabric districts. Also it took a hour for the judges to choose awards while we had to sit back stage with no room and some of us had enormous props

AMKE is a really fantastic con-- it's spacious, the staff are super friendly IME and the rave last year was FUCKING AMAZING. The DJ lineup they had was fucking fantastic (they had a guy from ACEN's rave who is just the fucking sweetest DJ ever) and the party went all night. I'm kinda hung up over the djs they picked this year, don't know why they ditched the old djs but I guess they think it's a good idea? Whatever.

I don't know if you're in Milwaukee OP but the area is pretty well known for raves and such. Lots of EDM parties and such and Chicago has a new music festival in the summer that's pretty bangin'!
