It... kind of looks like her skin was literally spray-painted. Like it's all flaky and wrinkly-looking, the way your skin gets when you accidentally hit it with spray paint. The way it's puckering on her chest/cheeks and peeling off the inside of her elbow... yikes. I can't imagine what her skin looked like after that, or how the hell she scrubbed it all off.

I think she did. A few friends were sleeping over and I heard one of them mention something to me about that being vinyl and things temporarily attached to some part of a Jade costume of hers? It was just a last minute kinda thing. Reminds me of the update cosplays with paper symbols.

If I recall correctly, those are actually the light up pair she made. Tap them together (or just give them some kind gentle impact) and the tips light up. The thickness/lack of taper was to accommodate for the bulk of the electronics at the tip.

Hey HSG, question for you. How would you suggest keeping freakishly huge horns standing straight on your head? Like Condesce, Handmaiden, or GrandHighblood.

When I did my first-ever cosplay (Vriska), I made the horns WAY too big so they were more GHB-height and as wide as the Condesce's. Needless to say, that was a horrible cosplay, but I kept the horns on by drilling holes into a plastic headband and screwing the horns into said headband. We then got some heavy-duty glue and poured it into the gap underneath, making it so the horns would not wobble or move at all.

They stayed straight for the entire con and still are today, despite giving me a HUGE headache as I made them too heavy and didn't realise until wearing them for a day. Note to anyone with big horns: Don't make them heavy, they will give you a crushing headache. Even if you think they're light, wear them around the house or something for a few hours to see if you can handle it.

The biggest problems I have found with large horns are: keeping them balanced atop my head without tilting off, keeping the horns on the headband and making them comfortable to wear.

I would recommend that you use the lightest materials possible and attach them to a headband under your wig, while pinning the wig to your hair and wig cap to stop them from slipping. Horns that protrude more horizontally (e.g. Handmaid, Summoner) tend to be more stable than horns that are really tall (Highblood, Condesce, etc.). For attachment, fill the bases of the horns with clay or dense material, poke them through your wig and secure with screws (screws plural) and construction glue (optional if you want to re-use the wig, but great if you don't want your horns coming off. Ever.) Lastly, add some padding/wadding/foam inside the headband to stop screws and headband ends from digging in.

Not the only way to do it, but it worked for me.

Curly, nicely styled, flippy wig. Simple but clean and pretty looking makeup, correctly shaped (oval) glasses, clean symbol the right size in the middle of breasts/chest, a skirt/tshirt that fits the cosplayer and flatters them, and basically just doing what canon jane does with how she looks. Not too hard to do kids right.

Just avoid her and you should be fine. She really only cares about popularity, so if you're a relative nobody she'll leave you alone. No guaranteeing she won't bitch out your cosplay behind your back since she's known to do that, but you shouldn't care about what a talentless cunt like her thinks anyways.
I'm going to Sakuracon myself and I'm going to do my best to avoid her even though our circles of friends run together a little bit.

Sometimes a lot of skin smoothing to the point of plastic, and changes her eyes as well. She doesn't wear contacts, but you'll find in the photos she posts she's almost always 'wearing' them. Then again, maybe she just can't use them. I definitely know that pain and it fucking irritates me when CGL knocks me for not using contacts when I cannot use them.

Also, she makes herself thinner in a weird way. Not using liquify, but just squishing herself in. Found the before and after.

I'm about to start making a Trickster Roxy cosplay but I feel like it's going to be one of those deceptively easy costumes. So I thought I'd ask you guys if there's anything you think is make-or-break about the design, that has bugged you about Trickster Roxys in the past, etc.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of nasty Trickster Roxy wigs. I definitely plan to spend time on it, add in thick chunks of pink and blend the hair with the cotton candy and so on.

Pay very close attention to your colours. With such bright fluorescent designs, any mismatched shades are going to stick out like a sore thumb. There's nothing worse than a relatively simple kid cosplay having different shades between eg. their shirt symbol and skirt material.

commented, don't be afraid to go slightly off-canon to make it look better on you. Trickster Tavros is commonly given brown horns but if it looks like literal faeces you should start to make some flattering adjustments. For Roxy in particular, you might want to scale the lollipop prop down a little to make it easier to get a smooth finish, paint an even spiral design, and make it easier to carry about with you.

Thanks, this is good advice! I've been going back and forth on buying pieces (ie the shirt, which is basically just a lime raglan) but you're right that neons are hard to match. It'd be better to pick my own fabrics and do it from scratch.

For the lollipop... I'll probably spraypaint it using a stencil. I've seen a lot of Roxys with wonky spirals. :( Making it smaller so it's easier to carry is a good idea.

You have to kind of jutt your lower lip upward like you're going for an intense frown, but curve the outer corners of your lip upward at the same time. The trick is to make sure you don't widen your mouth while you do it, or you'll lose the curve in the middle.

It's kind of like wiggling your eyebrows in that it helps if you practice in front of the mirror a lot.

Fake lashes are great if you're going for Kanaya, Vriska, Nepeta, Feferi, and Aradia (avoid them for Terezi if you plan on leaving your glasses on for photos, since lashes brushing against glasses is an annoying sensation). Avoid them for the male trolls since they might over-feminize you.

I would still recommend a light coat of mascara (or a lash tint) so your natural lashes blend in better with your falsies, and I'd recommend playing around with eyeliner a bit more, adventuring into different types. What kind(s) were you experimenting with?

I love it when Lalonde cosplayers use plum colored lipstick, it's less harsh against certain skin tones and sometimes teeth. Brands I'd recommend is NYX's matte lipstick MLS07 "Alabama" (it stays on really well, I'd also suggest lining your lips) and also surprisingly Maybelline's 435 "Plum Perfect" is pretty great. I feel like there's a huge ammount of drama/general bitchiness in this fandom. I disagree, if you are skinny, wear skinny jeans. If you are female or not skinny, then wear others. Skinny jeans on girls crossplaying are a giveaway and if you're a big guy squeezing into drainpipes is going to look bad, but a genuinely skinny person wearing baggy-fitting jeans will always look bad.
It should be assumed that the clothes fit the character. That's usually what looks best, so your clothes should fit you.

good job wasting your money on the official shirt, karkat's shirt is canonically long-sleeved. skinny jeans are generally a no and he wears gray pants. converse are fine. practice the makeup yourself. wear teeth and gray/yellow/red contacts if you can. be sure to contour your makeup (slightly darker gray under your cheekbones and jaw, and considering for most of the comic karkat hasnt slept in a month, darken your eye sockets too to make them look sunken and tired). brush mascara on the tops of your eyelashes (instead of swooping up, go down) to eliminate flesh-tones/stray sealing powder without making your eyes feminine. put the darker gray you use for contouring on your lips (not black), powder the hell out of it, and keep it with you to reapply. use pax on at least your neck so makeup doesnt smudge on your black collar--even perfectly sealed ben nye will always come off a bit. and please, please actually style your wig--most people wear generic black anime long-banged wigs straight out of the bag and it looks nothing like the canon tangled/curly mess.

Do you mean going to a con in Homestuck cosplay without anyone with you? I've done that once and didn't have trouble being alone, but that have been because I was taking photos so it was easy to broach people and talk with them.

Make a cool prop if you want company. People will come over and want to talk to you about it and how you made it. Hell, even if you do a fairly decent job sewing your cosplay people will talk to you. I made a God Tier hood with only half an idea of what I was doing and still had people approach me on how to make it.

This. I can't tell you how many times I got stopped because of the prop I had, and that was a shitty first-time prop. Depending on your character try going for one that's not done very often because a lot of folks will appreciate it.

I never go to a con with someone else, but it always ends up alright for me. Just be real casual-like, don't get too clingy, another good way actually I've found is to ask them if there's a photoshoot. That way if you decide to go for some reason, they'll probably pick your face out of the crowd and at least wave or something. Just don't be afraid to go out there and say hello!

His shoes are black on top with white at the bottom, so if your converse look like that, you're fine. Otherwise, most people I know have picked up some cheap canvas shoes from Walmart and painted them.
If it's possible to get grey pants, either skinny or straight leg, that would be better than black. Paired with the T-shirt over a long sleeve shirt look, most people will probably think you're doing some AU or casual cosplay. The shoes aren't really a huge deal IMO but the color of his pants is kind of a big deal, since the costume is so simple.

oh jesus. these kids were at SacAnime Winter, and they were the biggest weaboos there. Carried around a bucket, didn't seal their crap, tried to grab my fork-scepter, and tossed around a pair of panties/walked around with it on their head.
Oh and threw glitter every-fucking-where.
