Oh come on. Pokemon thread. The good, the bad, the gijinkas, the trainers, the old, the new. I don't care. Go!

Also; Chespin master race.

I really like the new starters! I'm kinda iffy on the new design but I'm sure the more we get to see of X and Y the more it will grow on me. Also excited to see what new pokemon there will be.

6 gens and they finally broke the cycle of reptilian based grass starters. Rumors are flying that a new dragon based eeveelution is coming up(Wouldn't be surprised if it was true) I'm guessing if we end up with the usual 100-150+, we're looking at anywhere from 750-800 total pokemon.

They're obnoxiously ugly, and the only one with promise is the fire starter and only because it's blatantly ripped off a fennec fox for the ~*~kawaii~*~ marketing factor.

TL;DR This gen is gross and too soon and nobody should celebrate its existence.

Personally I think the water starter isn't so bad.

I wouldn't say to soon on it. Nintendo has a track record of releasing the Pokemon Gens about 3-4 years apart(If you don't count the remakes.) B&W was released in Japan in 2010. It feels too soon since they did B&W2 not that long ago.

You haven't even seen the most part of the gen and you're saying this? Are you actually serious...?

>> No.6540701

>>6540691
But we have a release date for it- October 2013.

Unless it gets delayed for some reason, but they're doing simultaneous worldwide release.

It's only been two years, and the DS graphics look like crap.

>>6540679
People say they look bad because they do. The only redeemable quality of the starters is that there's a furry-pandering fennec and the grass starter isn't some sort of reptile.

>> No.6540711

>>6540701
Which puts it right on track with Nintendo's track record of releasing main gen games 3-4 years apart.

Pokemon Red & Blue 1996
Pokemon Gold & Silver 1999
Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire 2003
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Sept 2006
Pokemon Black and White Sept 2010
Pokemon X & Y October 2013
and those are the Japanese release dates. I guess it's more closed thanks to the US getting B&W in 2011. If they had stuck to their old track record, we'd get the game in 2014.

Get over yourself, the new startes looks perfectly fine. Also: dinosaur grass starter = master race. It's not a fact though.

So... Do you think it'll take a week for the cosplays to surface, or will we have shitty gijinka by tomorrow?

Pokemon names, both in Japanese and English names are based on puns or mashing two concepts together. They don't always translate well and the puns lose meaning. Of course there are quite a few exceptions (e.g. Pikachu, Togepi, Delibird, etc.).

>> No.6540756

The starters are getting more cutesy and cartoony. Ew.

Stopped likinf starters after gen 4 came out and at this point, it looks like they've run out of good ideas. These new starters look nothing like the Pokemon I remember.

>> No.6540771

>>6540749
More so, evolutions are also puns, an when they did things like babies or stuff in different gens that the original it looses meaning as well.

Or it is done to make it more recognizable to us, like giovanni is something else in Japanese because we see mafia as italians but the japanese would their of their own mafia first.

I think they look fine, Pokemon always bases it's pokemon on a theme anyways nature/earth/space/time/mythology and this time I think it's endangered/extinct animals(the legendary pokemon are based on a giant bird and elk, forget what they are called)

>> No.6540778

I never grandpa "back in my day" anything, but Pokemon really drives me to it. For what its worth I've played games from each gen, the only ones I played to completion were Red, Yellow, Gold, and FireRed. I did not like the others much at all, even though I thought Ruby had a cool story.

>>6540763
>these new starters look nothing like the Pokemon I remember
Agreed, if I did not know they were Pokemon and saw them each alone I would assume they were mascot characters for Pretty Cure or SanX.

>> No.6540802

I'm going to guess you don't own a 3ds or haven't looked at games because there's a lot of solid releases for it, and quite a few coming out in a few months. Most won't stick in OUR heads forever, but that's because they aren't really our childhood.

Harvest Moon: A New Beginning
KH:DDD
REvelations
Fire Emblem
MK7
Style Savvy Trendsetters
Kid Icarus: Uprising
VLR
Theatrhythm
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Paper Mario Sticker Star (It's a hit or miss game)

and some games to be released in 3-6 months max
Animal Crossing
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
MH3
Luigi's Mansion - Dark Moon
and of course Pokemon in October.

Pokemon and AC sold the system for me, HM and the others are just bonuses
