Okay, so I want to cosplay as a character, but the thing is I am not White nor Yellow Skinned Asian. I am Indian. Let me start from the beginning. I am planning on going to Comic Con this Summer and was thinking about going as a character, but I don't know too many characters with a skin tone like mine. I am fairly dark skin toned Indian (Dot, not feather). So I need ideas on who to go as. I don't really want to do anything full body armor like. I am thinking about going as scar from Full Metal Alchemist but I need to train my self physically more so I can get thick enough arms. I should mention this is my first time. So, do you guys know any good Indian like anime characters that are tall and bulky.

It is weird to me, because that is not how I see the character. Let me take Goku for example. I always saw Goku as asian. But when Hollywood made the movie and replaced him as being white, that was just off putting for me. It is like replacing John Stewart with a white character. It just takes away from how I see the character. It is probably racist, that is just how I feel.

You do know that cosplay encompasses more than just anime, right? Comics, sci-fi, novels, tv shows, historical garments, all of these things and more are all considered cosplay.

What if those OCs are from a certain point in history?
What if you are cosplaying a well known historical figure?
And if you can only ever cosplay characters created by others, then does that mean you are not cosplaying if you are a random star trek crew member? Or a stormtrooper? What about the various school girls who have no specific character name? Are those no longer "cosplay".

You cosplay as a character or an OC. The latter is silly if you want to get recognized, but it counts because it's a specific character.

I'm South Asian as well (half Indian, half Nepali) and I've long since said fuck it to trying to pick out characters who match my skin tone. I'm not particularly dark, but still not light enough for majority of characters.

Oh, and darker skinned characters are more likely to not wear a whole lot, especially if female. (ATLA and LOK are the only exceptions. And even then.)

Find a character you like from a series you love and you'll be more likely to make a good cosplay then if you just find a random character who kind of looks like you but don't give two shits about.

That said, if you're male be a hot Kotetsu or Godot please.

Except the latter illustrates why book cosplay is not taken seriously. Unless there are very definable qualities or you're just that damned popular, chances are the book cosplay won't get recognised at all.

To be honest I really don't think anyone cares about cosplaying by your skin tone anymore, unless you count the batshit SJWs on Tumblr who hate brownfacing/whitewashing. But their butthurt cray opinions don't matter.

Just cosplay who you want. Black people cosplay light skinned characters without a problem all the time, I don't see why you can't.

okay the important thing is: do you have tickets yet

actually what the hell am I saying? the only people who have tickets right now are the people from this year who got into the rebuy. I don't even have tickets because I have to want for pro reg next year.

Anyway, good luck. Book them hotel rooms as soon as you can for the cheap prices and make sure you get one that has a good cancellation policy so you can dump it if you end up not getting tickets.
