I think it's because the AT character designs are so simple that people are forced to do an interpretation instead of a literal copy, which in turn makes them spend more time considering the construction and design, and also makes it harder to screw up.

That said, there is definitely some terrible AT cosplay. Usually Finn and Fionna for some reason. That fucking hat.

what brand skin paint are you using? ben nye, snazaroo, pax or some other brand? i personally suggest using ben nye for your face(it smooths out really nicely) and using either armsocks or pax for your arms and other body parts. pax is acrylic based and doesn't wipe off easily. don't get it anywhere near your face though because it will suffocate your skin.

I've been thinking of doing a Jake cosplay for some time now as my first cosplay, but I want todo it in a way that isn't dressing up in a big outfit, more...humanized? I suppose.

I was thinking like baggy yellow Fubu-type pants with a baggy yellow hoodie, then maybe have some adjusted large round goggles as well (with perhaps bits of paper on the inside to look like his eyes).

Does this sound good? I figure this is a decent thread to ask in.

Nah man, copy my wig all you want, it is the only good part of my costume. The dress didn't turn out very well imo. I was gonna remake it, but then my cat peed all over my extra fabric. Sure I could have washed it, but if I did and then sewn with it all I could think the whole time would be:
