Hey, /cgl/, /m/an here. Working on my first ever cosplay and, well, this is hard. How would someone go about making Kuuga's helmet? Would I be better off commissioning someone?

If you can manage to get a hold of the pepakura file, you should be able to make it on your own, though if it's your first time you may want to make it more than once til you get the hang of it and it'll look the way you want. Most of us Toku/Sentai cosplayers use a combo of Pepakura / Resin / Bondo, though as of late we've been using EVA foam: it's lighter, easier to work with, and less expensive than Bondo. Alternatively, if budget isn't an issue, you can commission one from Aniki Cosplay, he makes some of the best reproduction helmets that you see around conventions.

Pic related, it's my old progress pic for Wizard. I haven't gotten much done since I'm packing for a house move, but this is a slightly different fiberglassing technique. It really depends on your skill level and what you're comfortable working with.

This thing? What is it? I've never really done anything like this, I'm a complete novice.

If you can manage to find the .pdo file, see if you can download a program called "Pepakura Viewer". It will unfold the 3D image and then you can print it out onto sheets of cardstock. Sort of like a 3D puzzle you have to put together. The more complex the unfold, the nicer the curves will be. There are also online forums you can use, like Replica Prop Forum or the 405th, they deal with making helmets and props and have lots of threads that give you solid advice, even for newbies.

Thats my old Kuuga helmet. I can get you the Kuuga files, some better than before.
Go download the pepakura designer 3 and crack here on /rs/, but if you can afford the full program buy it, its super useful.

I suggest reading up the tutorials on the 405th. ILL BE BACK SOON WITH A LINK

Ah, right, that makes sense. Does it look good? Obviously it won't be as good as something from the show, but I've seen some really shoddy toku stuff and I kinda want to do better.

That would be amazing, thanks man.
