I bought the white crown embroidered cardigan from Bodyline last week and I have a question about it.

If I were to wear it under a dress in place of a blouse for warmth (Possibly with a bolero over it.) would it be ita, or do you think it'd be okay? I can't really visualize whether it'll look okay or not.

Look at a dress, and think "If someone offered me x amount of dollars for it right here on the spot, would I sell it to them right away?" If the answer to the question is yes and the price is something reasonable, then list it for that price. If your answer is no you probably love it too much to sell. The other thing that you could try doing is to store them for 6 months (carefully!) out of sight, and if you don't go looking for any of them in 6 months sell the lot, or sell the ones you don't wear within 6 months.

The good thing about lolita is that it doesn't really matter so much what your hips are like (at least not in my experience) because it's all hidden by the bell shape. It's mostly just seeing how blouses suit your shoulder/neck line, as peter pan collars or round collars or high necks don't suit everyone. It's all just about trial and error and seeing what you like, personally.

Most should be fine, but pay attention to the length listed on the website. Most dresses are around 88-90cm, with AP being shorter and BTSSB and classic brands being a little longer in general. Beware of salopettes and miniskirts though, they are very short unless you're like 5'1".
Also your height distribution factors in, like long torso vs long legs, etc. Brand dresses are rather short in the torso and if you're busty it can ride up a little making it shorter.
But overall 5'6" is a pretty good height for lolita. That's around Amo's height for reference.

You can try a really lightweight, soft petticoat, like Malco Modes 580. It's chiffon, incredibly comfortable, but still helps smooth out the silhouette of a Lolita skirt. I have to spend a lot of time seated, and I think it's one of the best petticoats for that.

I'm 5'4" but pretty busty. AP tends to come about 3"-4" above the knee on me. If you're 5'6" but not very busty, it wouldn't be a problem. You may want to go more for tights than OTK's.

Does this cosplay wig look alright with coord for now? I believe it's a Madoka wig, but I bought it on a whim and it's the only wig I have that matches. I'll eventually be buying a Lolita wig but I'm having a hard time finding one that I really like. Til then is this wig ita as fuck? I can't really forgo a wig because I have bright pink hair and a mohawk which would clash.
Any other coord suggestions would be nice too especially blouse suggestions for bigger chests.

Noob here: I just made a pretty "lolita clothes savings jar" with a red ribbon around it, haha. I've adored the clothes for 9 years and I'm finally in a financial situation and low weight so that I can wear it. Bonus: I basically have no tits (33 AA) so the bust is not a problem~ I say that because I know a lot of busty gals have problems with fitting into the clothes because of that.
Basically, since I was a kid: What Mana wore, I loved! Obviously I can buy Moitie stuff (though I wish the accents were commonly red instead of blue) but my other lolita fashion icon is Sunako from Shiki. Based on that, what brands do you think I should look into besides the Moitie and the ones listed on the replicas of outfits from the show/manga?

It might be the lighting, but the colour really clashes. It looks like a salmon/coral pink against pastels, and it's really not working with the lavender. Do you have an actual, shaved sides mohawk? Because I think bright pink hair would look better for now.

I am also 5'6", but a lot of my height is in my legs (my waist-to-knee measurement is ~24"). Classic and Gothic dresses all look fine on me, not too short. I do wear tights instead of socks, though: I'm just tall enough that even OTKs look awkward, but tights smooth things out and give a nicer appearance. And, it's not that hard to find awesome patterned tights for Classic/Gothic.

Things will be a little more difficult if you're into sweet, as AP is notorious for shorter dresses. Baby is OK, but still tends to be a little shorter than IW/VM. Sweet dresses don't look as nice with underskirts if something *is* too short. And, it's harder to find patterned tights in sweet colorways. You can find some on yesasia/taobao/etsy, or go for solid accent colors.

wig: the wig style doesn't bother me, except the crooked fringe. it'll be great if the colour was more natural. wig sheen doesn't turn up well in photos, but if your wig has like a shiny...glossy, plastic-like sheen to it, i would recommend not using it.

I do not recommend F+F, especially for someone with limited experience with the fashion. Everything just looks a little bit "off" to me, like they got it 85% right but just not there... Don't be so concerned about what other people think. My comm has a group of bitchy "lolitists" (I'm one of them) and if you show up to a meetup with a great attitude and honest effort there is no call for anyone to talk crap about you. I have never seen anyone straight shit talked in person. Personally, I will give you an honest compliment (I like how you coordinated your purse with your outfit, not something completely untrue like "OMG I love your outfit I'm going to go home and buy it~!!"), try to get to know you, and provide gentle constructive criticism if and only if it is requested. For me an ita is not only badly dressed but terrible to be around in general. Not everyone is going to be a lolita idoru when they start out (or even if they stick with it for years.) As for wearing brand out, I think you'll be OK. Watch out for mustard and rough/spiky surfaces.

Bodyline has mediocre quality and very hit-or-miss design. While it's definitely possible to get good wardrobe fillers from BL, it's "dangerous" for a newbie because they have so many items that might look fine to the inexperienced eye but will turn out to be a huge, unwearable disappointment later.
Blouses and shit are generally fine, though. If you're unsure, you can always post here for input.

I had an idea to maybe buy a longer skirt, either white or beige, with ruffles on the bottom to wear under the dress; and hopefully that only the skirt's ruffles will show from under this dress.
Anyways, is this a good idea?

1. bodyline is a good starting point since it's so cheap and, as long as you get their non-ita shit, I don't think anyone would mind.
2. not if done right. Lolita-tips on tumblr had a great masterpost on b/w coords
3. that dress is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.

>> No.6442655

>>6442635
1. It's not bad to have a wardrobe of Bodyline. There will be some people who will look down on you, but there would be people who would look down on you if you wore all brand so it doesn't matter. Bodyline is a great way to pad your wardrobe, especially with basics (I know their shoes are nice and seem to be the lease expensive). Other options would be Taobao or lurking on the sales comm. You can find good deals and get cute brand dresses for the same price as Bodyline (at least close to it).

2. There isn't anything about black and white that AUTOMATICALLY makes it ita. It's all about how well you co-ord it and the quality of the pieces you're wearing. It's more of a difficult combo to pull off, like pink x red, but it can be done. It's also considered more old school style, which isn't a bad thing. It's just different than more modern lolita styling.

3. I have mixed feelings about that dress. I think it does have the potential to be cute, but I think you'd have to lose the bows around the skirt and the vertical lace. It might be easier to start with a non-print or something simpler to get a feel of what looks good on you.

>> No.6442665

>>6442635
1. Bodyline is good for staple pieces such as blouses or bloomers. Nobody will really care if all you own is Bodyline, it's about the quality and look of the clothes themselves, not where they came from.
2. They can be extremely ita. If you're just starting out, don't try it until you're more experienced and know the finer nuances of lolita. It may seem easy/simple/elegant at first, but it is too easy to do wrong. Try working with other colours first.
3. There's nothing wrong with that outfit in general. It's not exactly "elegant" because it reeks of modern print but it is still cute and looks fine.

It's safe. Everything she makes is custom made to order. Just do a search on facebook for Oo Jia, she'll pop up

Make sure to give her ALL of your measurements, not just the ones she asks for. The reason a lot of her plus-sized replicas look bad is because she doesn't measure some other parts and it makes the proportions weird..

Check out FanPlusFriend for a general sizing template so you can use it.

I'd really like to start dressing in classic lolita. My problem is that I'm 5'10". Do you think that lolita will work for me, or is it just kind of a waste of time?

>> No.6442818

>>6442802
If you're tall, classic lolita is actually one of the best styles to get into. Lots of classic brands bring out long dresses. Innocent World is especially good for it, they always have a long version of their dresses.

The fuck is with all the "I'm xxx height, is it okay to be a lolita or not?"
Anyone of any height or weight can be a lolita of any style. If you're too short or skinny, you can get dresses tailored. If you're too tall, you can get underskirts. If you're too fat, you can get replicas made. There is no reason why you cannot become a lolita with any kind of body type. Just put on a fucking dress and stop questioning whether you were born tall or short enough for it. If you feel pretty, you are pretty, and don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

If you have a small to average bust/waist also look into the tea length dresses from VM in addition to the IW long sizes as other anon mentioned.

VM isn't too forgiving on Bust/Waist but most of their dresses are on the longer side, even the non-tealength ones.

IMHO, Oo Jia doesn't scale her patterns right, and she uses really low quality fabric. If you look at her pieces in general, she doesn't really appear to be very skilled at pattern making.

plus a lot of lolita don't like replicas b/c they are illegal. I'd suggest getting custom made things elsewhere. Taobao shops, for example, are for the most part cheaper and provide better quality goods.

you just have to be really specific with her measurements (like don't just tell her your height and bust/waist) and she'll do fine

her fabric is fine, on par with what taobao shops use

I wouldn't worry too much about what other lolitas think, Brazilian loli. If you want twinkle journey custom made then get it. there are a bunch of pictures of the replica online if youre not sure how it will look. from what ive seen, its pretty decent for the price

Does anyone have a pricecheck on Sleeping Beauty skirt in black? Not betting on getting it anywhere near cheap but curious all the same.

Her non-custom sized patterns aren't even well drafted....
It's really not on par with any taobao shop other than maybe DOL and their stuff is really cheaply made too, IMHO. I have a bunch of stuff from DC, Infanta, etc and it's all much nicer.

Fabric isn't really low quality. It's not brand quality, but fairly close. It's about as thick as one of my Meta skirts. It's a high thread count cotton (thicker than say, kona cotton or broadcloth that you'd pick up from the fabric store). Definitely not thin or see-through, and doesn't have the texture of canvas like DOL. My only gripe with her fabric is that it wrinkles like a motherfucker if you so much as lay a napkin on your lap and doesn't want to iron out easily. Just be prepared to iron and steam anything you get from her. It doesn't hurt to have more precise measurements (bodice and skirt length along with bust, waist, length. She tends to just scale things horizontally if you are on the bigger side). If you get something made from another seamstress like say, Lady Sloth, it doesn't hurt to provide those same measurements.

Thanks for your input! I was also looking at a bunch of lolita dresses sans prints. So just solid color ones, the place i'm going to work at doesn't have a dress code, just as long as you are not exposing serious skin. I think i would go with some dresses that don't have prints until i get a feel of the environment and what's acceptable.

anyone have any good coords/ worn shots involving vests and/or waistcoats?

>> No.6446698

I love coats... I really like them worn open, so you get a peek of the coord. Not to mention... it's a coat... if you live in an area that gets/is cold, you will want a coat. Best to buy from? I have several custom from taobao I like (boguta has a really pretty flocked black coat) and I'm waiting on a fawn coat in bourdeux from Shirley Deer. I am also thinking of buying the fawn coat from Baby in ivory.

Well, you can order from most of the brand websites, Atelier Boz has some gorgeous ones. Japanese second hand resellers are also good, fururun, closet child, and tokyo alice have some coats up at the moment. Otherwise there's always bodyline.

Are the KKJJ style petticoats worth $13?
I know where to buy them in LA, but the tulle almost seems too stiff. Do they have an okay shape under dresses, and is it possible to beat the tulle into submission? $13 isn't a lot of money, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort of modifying (I'd need to add an elastic waistband and shorten it a little) or if I should just spend more money on a better one.
