I've always seen a few variants among cosplayers, and none of them really appeal to me.

It's either chunky and cartoonish or sleek with "batwings". Or the god-awful ones that either make everything stand on end, or don't put a single once of effort into it. (I don't care if it's Ryou, he still has volume in his hair.)

Pic is of aforementioned batwings style. I think it looks the best out of the two predominant styles, but it lacks accuracy. I'd kill for a nice compromise.

I think taste in hair can be really controversial when it comes to Yugioh cosplay. The character designs are some of the most unrealistic, and you're either stuck with a brick of hair on your head, or losing accuracy points trying to make it look more natural.

I'm assuming that's your real hair then? While the color is very convincing for cosplay (besides the tiny bit of roots showing), I would still urge you to get a wig. While not as specific as some of the other Yugioh characters, Mai's hair still requires a lot of volume and curls. It's a lot easier to go crazy with a wig once, than to fight with real hair the morning of the convention.

I'd also say you'd look out of place compared to Yugioh cosplayers with more extravgant hairstyles, but unless it's Yugi, most people don't even try toy style their shit. But I will say I'm glad to see Mai cosplayers that aren't crazy ladies who look like discount grandma hookers. In my past experiences, many Yugioh fans/cosplayers I've met tend to be a special type of crazy.

As a Bakura cosplayer, I will agree with you.

I love the character and I love cosplaying him for fun, but I'll be the first to admit that I look so fucking girly in that wig. I also have numerous issues with the wig in general, mostly stemming from the "accuracy vs realism" issue.

Bakura probably gets massacred the most in the hands of fangirls. Too many yaoi-obsessed weeaboos with unstyled wigs, and horrible attempts at a Millennium Ring.

I'd kill to see a good Gauche too. Preferably with the fabulous orange fur-trimmed coat, if possible.

Kaiba has been a favorite character of mine since i was little and first getting into anime. But i have yet to see a good cosplay of him. I'm not saying they are all bad, but i think i've only seen like two cosplayers who could actually pull his look off and even they weren't perfect.

I'm normally not too picky/judgmental of cosplayers, but when it comes to Seto Kaiba i almost take it personally. I would LOVE to see an amazing Kaiba! One that does not look girly and is actually accurate in almost every aspect. It would be like a dream come true if i could see at least one!

And this guy is one of the better cosplayers looks wise, at least his face is more masculine than a majority of the other Kaibas. I've noticed that too. And while some of them can pull off the character, it's always weird talking to them and being greeted with a girly and bubbly voice. I'm not saying you have to be in-character for your cosplay, but it's always a bit eerie.

Though I'll take that over the people who just shout old jokes from The Abridged Series in pale imitations of the voices. Especially since that group tends to be the source of the shit-tier cosplays.

The tenth anniversary of the series was recently, so that's the reason why BBT and the new merch came out. They're also releasing larger figures of the DM main characters. Apparently they're very nice, but I'm holding off for now, as when the One Coin figures came out, blew too much money on them.

Though I believe I heard LittleKuriboh once mention that the company that publishes the TCG is apparently grateful for Abridged's popularity, and kept on sending him free cards in appreciation. I also believe that 4kids' is appreciative of the popularity, which is what led to them trying to stream legal uncut subs. (Apparently there's some legal issue with the Japanese VA of Yugi, so they axed DM. I think they have official Zexal subs to stream, but the last time I checked, they go at a slower rate to keep up with the dub.)

However, the 4kids transferred the rights to the anime franchise in the US, so there may be the possibility for local merch.

Shows how much I've been keeping up with the franchise lately. I did hear all that bankrupt drama about 4kids though, but I have to check out the streaming and I hope they get DM on there eventually because (well the last time I checked years ago) there aren't many good subs.
I saw the figures while searching for cosplays and holy mother they are beautiful. I've had my eye on the DMG but I can't justify paying the money for something that doesn't actually serve a purpose. Though I have at least 8 of the One Coin figurines; they're cute.

Is it possible to have coattails as exaggerated as YGO characters, while still looking decent? Seeing good cosplays with the coats just draping over the legs makes me wonder if more could be done.
