CGL,
I miss dressing cute and colorful during high school. I had a great freaking time and it was some of the best days of my life. I'm 21 now and have a pretty "normal" closet, though some pieces from my decora days are set away for maybe my child to enjoy some day. Though I do have a hankerin' to wear some of the cute stuff again. I'm not really into anime anymore, let alone cosplaying. Are there any inspirations of older folk who still dress cute and pull it off well without exactly screaming weeb? I want to still be able to go outside wearing the stuff and be able to be taken seriously? I'm looking for inspirational photos, if anything like this exists.

Thanks tons. Pic related, some of my bracelets in "the good ole days"

I always LOVED dressing up in rainbows and bright colors, and I found I couldn't give up my bright colors, but I just mix them into more toned-down clothes
I'll wear a neon lime green tank top, but it'll be a high quality, square neck one and I'll match it with a charcoal skirt, charcoal sheer pantyhose, ballet flats and a sheer white sweater with some kind of colorful necklace
Or a cream colored shirt with fire-engine red skinny jeans and boots

pic semi-related, it's not exactly what you're talking about but it's still bright and cute

Thanks~ I'd love more inspirations though. That is cute

You can wear decora pieces as much as you want.
The key to it having a mature feeling to it is keeping it to a minimum: one piece at a time, and make sure it goes well with everything else you wear(i.e don't wear a bright pink bracelet if you're wearing an emerald business dress with a black blazer)

Another example.

Ugh, is 21 old now?

It's not really "old", but it does sort of demand a move into maturity. At 21 most people are either out on their own or finishing up school, so the "real" jobs, potential careers and internships start to become really important. And you can't just dress however you want for those, so the early-to-mid 20's usually include a severe shift in dress.

You can also wear decora necklaces, just make sure it's the CENTERPIECE of your outfit i. e. nothing else is detailed/fun/interesting

You can easily wear a couple of your bracelets with a demure one-piece in a neutral colour to make it pop.

You can even wear a few of your tops(assuming they don't all have your hello kitty on them), as long as you tone them down with - you guessed it - basic pieces in neutral colours.

I hope all of these are pic unrelated, because they have nothing to do with incorporating decora into a normal outfit. Those are just normal accessories and don't give any sort of visual aid to what you're describing.

I think the trick is to have ONE bold/playful/colorful piece and let the rest of the outfit be simple with subtle colors.
For a casual day, something like pic related would be nice with a pair of jeans or black leggings. Still cute, but not over the top.

These rules can also apply to decora. Seriously, just imagine nigger uistayi
all the accesories in pink.

True. The key with making decora look mature is to take any one item OUT of a decora outfit and put it in a regular outfit. It would look just like a normal outfit with a fun twist.

Do a Google image search for "arm party". It's all about using color and stacking accessories.

Probably the most versatile part of decora other than accessories is the top. Assuming it's a dusty pink, you can easily wear it with regular clothes for a pop of colour.

>> No.6411353

You should be honest with yourself though, some of those bracelets wouldn't be taken seriously no matter what you wore them with. rave beads and shit just scream convention raver. The other pieces look like they could be incorporated though.

Can we side-track this thread and have a bit more on how to incorporate J-fashion pieces into normal western wear?
Pic related, the sort of stuff I have a lot of.

Oops, forgot to attach picture.

But yeah, I guess to reiterate what others have said, just pair one "cute" thing with a bunch of regular/plain stuff. I usually just pair this with muted cowl/black tights/black skirt/black heels. I seem to be able to get away with it without any looks.
