What goes through these people's heads to make them think that's a reasonable offer.

On the other hand, I have a quick, semi-related question; if I'm making an offer on an item, how do I be sure I'm not lowballing on the price? I never make offers below a 20% reduction, but I always worry about coming across as cheap.

I have the same issue. I want to make offers because I'm a cheap asshole, but I don't want to be rude or make the seller think I'm trying to swindle them so that they simply shut down my interest. Hell, I never make an offer if I can't afford full price to start with, I just like haggling. I need to remember egl-sales isn't a pawn shop.

It depends on the buyer. I never get offended by low offers as long as people aren't offended when their low offers are refused. Stuff like 20% reduction or asking someone to include shipping in the price of an item is reasonable imo, lower is acceptable if someone has put up "need to sale, taking all offers" especially after their post has been up for a week or so.
