btw, these orcs are from a Czech lord of the rings larp and their costume is pretty much awesome. Proper ork costumes, properly diery and ragtag but still you can see that it's durable, functional and cool looking

well not all forests are pine forests, but that pc is from sweden and they doesn't really have other kind of forests. Neither too much ruins. But one swedish larp has a proper tavern that they built up, the games name is Eterna IIRC.

Also playing in ruins usually need a lot of paper tossing with the authorities, but it happens once in a while.
But (hold on to your butts!) sometimes said ruins are next to a pine forest

So what happens if your character dies in a larp?
Do you have to abandon that character for all further larp and come up with something new?

depends on the game.
There are systems where if you die X times then you die permanently. Then there are systems where your character can't really die but after every death he gets some kind of flaw or other negative stuff. Then there are games where it's kind of up to you. You can decide if that death permanent or not, although if there is an execution or some other radical thing, so not a random bar brawl then you have to die permanently.
Plus usually there are ways for resurrecting characters from death.

Usually there are no drama about it here, but of course there are idiots everywhere...

sadly I start to run out the good leather armours as leather armor isn1t that great and most people doesn't use it. mostly they use it for vambraces bracers and similar stuff.
Also they tend to sell leather stuff for way to fucking expensive.

example >>6363446
this is the so called necromancers armor from calimacil.
I hope you are all sitting because that slab of leather on it's own is 821 USD
But that's not the whole just the torso part. You want the belt the hood and the skirt too? All in all that would be 1367 USD

While the guy does make a few legit points, I have to agree: It is hard to keep a straight face.

Some of those pictures are just... how can someone take that serious?
Then again, I am very much in favour of always improving your performance, both in terms of costume, acting or anything else.

And he tries to make it a selling point that they had 100 participants at a huge event. I can't remember if it is Drachenfest or another of the big German LARPs, but I remember reading that they are nearing 10.000 participants - if they haven't passed that mark already.

I'll tip my hat to him admitting that making LARP like DnD is a bad thing.

Maybe I've just heard too many bad things about US LARPs on /tg/ and that might have jaded me, but that was less than satisfactory considering the guy almost claims to have created US LARPs from scratch.

but what I really like about how he doesn't answer the questions.

the really funny thing about that is with the answer he heavily implies that boffers are generally better than latex weapons.

I'm still strongly of the "No pain - no gain" camp.

Okay, it's not cool being hit by sticks, but having whacked myself again and again using swords in Faraoes Cigarer (a FLGS in Denmark) when browsing and being bored, those things are not hard. Seriously, maybe a few marks, but nothing that won't leave in a week.

Otherwise: Get the fuck better at fighting.

what you have to keep in mind that every person hits with a different strength and everyone has a different pain tolerance. So when someone says that people he knows hits too hard we have absolutely no fucking idea how hard they actually hitting. I mean my friend sometimes hits kind of hard, and most of the time manages to break his weapons. Because of this there is the LSD standard: Larp Safe by Dreegar. He thinks that a weapon is larp safe if it survives the larp while he is using it

yes. That's why there is a rule in most larps to take care of each other. Because no matter how safe the weapon you can still cause serious injuries with it. I heard that a few people managed to get broken ribs from latex swords. It's not impossible if you really want to hurt somebody.
