Uuhhh this sounds like my local comm. Last meet up I went to we all agreed to go to a cafe after going to a museum. It was raining so most places were full or really busy. We went to a somewhat fancy cafe and took up 1 big table and 2 smaller ones. When the waitress came to take orders half the lolitas didn't want to order a thing, not even a drink. I felt mortified on their behalf and the waitress was clearly stunned and annoyed even though she didn't say anything.....

I don't have a problem with people making choices for themselves, but if we're all going to do an activity that doesn't involve eating first and then head over to a cafe or something, why wouldn't you just show up for the main event and then leave? Or order a tea at least.

If it's a meet based solely around food, suggest the group does something different while the details are still being nailed down.

Order a fucking drink. Diet soda, black coffee, plain tea, 0 fucking kcals. Diets, EDs and dietary restrictions are not a valid excuse. I have yet to meet anyone who couldn't consume a single drink from any menu based on such reasons. People are just cheapskates. If you wanna go out for free, go to a free place or go for a picnic or something where you can bring your own food. I am allergic to gluten, soya and yeast and it's often that I have been to restaurants where I can't eat a single thing due to cross-contamination fears. I can still order a drink or two.

I would feel really awkward if that happened. I don't eat a lot, so I pretty much have to share, but what usually happens is I end up sharing with just my girlfriend or I order something I know I should be able to finish. Trying to save money by splitting something up between a lot of people is a bit tacky.

Yes. Lovely girls but I was mortified as well. She arrived really late and it sucked cause no one knew who she was. I was waaaay at the other end of the table so I couldn't see if they have them enough for three people, I figured they let it slide cause they got one of the expensive teas but then when that girl arrived late, and didn't order anything (I'm sure they would have made her something if she wanted to) and ate off of theirs. I couldn't believe it. She was definitely made to pay the tip though was cheap about it, and probably wouldn't have done so if wasn't apporached about it. If any one f those four contributed to the deposit I probably wouldn't have cared as much but it irked the shit out of me and I'm glad they didn't get the free cookies and coupons we got at the end. I emailed the girl organizing again about it but she just brushed me off even though she is definitely the kind of person to care about that kind of thing.

The thing is... The pastries were small albeit filling. However they had an option to JUST get the pastries and not the savories if they couldn't eat it all or didn't like savory things, and to also save money. That's what I did and I'm broke as shit. They could have gotten something cheaper as well. If it was a sampler like another anon said, I would not have had a problem. But it was meant for one person. :/

I have no problem with people sharing food as long as they are like... sanitary about it (like everyone orders and a couple people have "a bite" or "a taste" of something someone else has), or splitting a large entree between two tiny girls who obviously can't eat the whole thing. But 4 people eating the same meal, and a bunch of people not ordering at all... is just rude. If I'm ever out and that happens, I always leave a bigger tip, or actually order desert or something to go to try to make up for it.

I'm going to stick up for themugence here. She does a good job of planning events, considering how many people RSVP and then never show up. At a certain point, she should put her foot down when people make unnecessary requests for events. Like that one twelve-year-old who had no lolita because she was "too poor", but wanted to "spectate" at a swap meetup -- honestly, what the hell was she going to DO in a group that is mostly 20-year-olds?

If people don't like themugence's events, they should plan and organize their own events. Organizing meetups takes work.

I always bring money and an appetite if I go to places after meets. Though, my boyfriend and I tend to go out to eat 2-3 times a week anyway. In my comm we usually will go to eat after a meetup, so I don't get why the people don't just go home. After working in restaurants at all it's embarrassing to me when people use them at hangout spots. I can understand a cafe like starbucks where no one is serving you, but in a sit-down setting it's just rude.

My comm is even more embarrassing. Not only lots of girls do that all the time (they order nothing) but no one ever tips and more than once girls try to take what's left as a tip on the table cause "hey it must be change, what no one wants it, I can have it then!" and have to be told that it's this thing called A TIP. It makes me feel ashamed when our big ass groups take up half the restaurant, then most people don't wanna order anything, they will call the waitresses multiple times over to ask for tapwater, go to the toilets, then leave and not only not leave a tip but try to take the tip that the rest of us have left. All that while they can clearly afford lolita.
