God this thread reminds me how much I'm dying for a haircut. It's below my shoulders now.

God, same here. I can't even trim my bangs because I lost my shears in the move.

Some with so much, others with so little...

I've been cutting my hair short for over two years, always annoyed that it would grow so fast and make me cut it again, and now that I want it to grow... it doesn't.
It's not even on my shoulders yet and it's been a year since I last cut it. And it was not a pixie cut, it was just to my chin. ;_;

>>6355729 here. I understand that very well. My hair grows generally quickly, but then I had really bad health and it pretty much stopped growing for six months (about the time my hairdresser gave me a mullet). Are you okay? :c

Question! I have short hair and I like to make it really puffy to balance out the heavier head accessories better (like top-hats and shit), but when I style it with gel or gel spray, my hair doesn't seem to hold on to it very well. Does anyone have any tips for making it stay longer? I generally use gel spray, then fixation spray, and then some more gel spray for extra strength but it still falls down. Tips on how to tease hair would be nice too, since that doesn't seem to work well with my hair, either. Maybe because it's too thin? Sorry for hijacking the thread!

I LOVE big hair but my is only shoulder length. To make it look really curly, what I do isI spray it with this stuff that makes your hair fuller. Then I braid into 30 or so small braids when wet, when it's dry, I hair spray it with Tresemme freeze hold, take it out, roughly brush it, flip my head upside down and hair spray the underneath (and with the volume spray) then tease it lightly, more hair spray, and a bit more teasing to touch it back up. Comes out after washing your hair and using alot of conditioner, gently combing it through.

Comes out a bit like this, but we used a hair curler when doing this one

Thanks for the tip, but I think my hair is way too short to do that. It's about the right size at the front, but it's cut in a layered A-line so it's quite short at the back. I might still try it out though, thanks!

The only things I can suggest is
1. Use a proper teasing comb - it makes a difference, it's not the same if you tease a bit with a regular brush/comb

2. Tease out as many small sections as you can individually, rather than just tease a few big sections, starting with the lowest layer of hair and working towards the top layers

3. Hair spray will do nothing if you don't set with heat. So tease a section and while holding it up spray and immediately blast with the hair dryer. repeat for each section.

At least this is how I was taught to tease my hair for volume and it always works. Patience makes a difference. I could tease my hair lazily adding some volume at key places, but that will deflate in an hour or so, especially with heavy hair accessories. If I take my time, sit down and do it properly though like I described above, it stays big and fluffy the whole day.

Someone suggested lightly spray with hairspray or a holding product first, let it dry a bit then curl inward

That sounds great, I'll have to try it out, thank you so much! I didn't know that hairspray sets best when you use heat.

Do you use the curling iron or straightener? If I ever use a curling iron it gets weird angles in my hair.

>> No.6357423

>>6353886

This would be so easy to pull off. I could get some loose hair, braid, style into hairpieces, style my bangs, make stubby, sad pigtails... instant style.

And nowhere near as hot as a wig.

Get a curling wand! it's easier to use on shorter hair and you don't get those weird kinks. It took a while to get used to not having the clamp but now I can curl my hair in 10 minutes and it lasts all day.

>> No.6357605

>>6356430
That could be happening because of the angle or how you clamp the iron. When you open the iron to catch the hair, try to tilt the iron slightly with the clamp a little under 90 degrees, then pull it down to the ends and curl how you'd like. Make sure the very ends are between the clamp and the iron, otherwise it could make little hooks and angles.

Use a thermal styling spray instead, and hairspray after applying heat or your hair will just end up looking fried/crunchy. I personally use just a thermal styling spray with a good hold and no hair spray so my hair turns out more natural and not as "crunchy" looking. But never use hairspray not designed for heat before applying heat to it.
