So I was at goodwill the other day looking for a cheap wedding dress to spill fake blood all over when I came across this. It was only 10 dollars and I keep wondering how it got there in the first place. I bought it because it was so cheap and if I end up not liking it, I can give it to a friend as a gift or something.

I'm not super into lolita as I am poor as hell, but I like to admire from afar. So do you seagulls have any advice for what could go well with this? Or maybe discus finding BURANDO in a strange place or something

>> No.6351191

I've heard rumours of people finding brand at goodwill. is this true?

what sort of sick freak decides to give their stuff to goodwill when it could just be worn by whores that don't know the dress's value.
I mean, you could of sold it and given away the money to charity. it would of benifited the community a lot more.

Thank you anon for a speedy reply! I have heard that this board goes a little slow sometimes so I didn't want to seem like a jerk for bumping.

Thrift stores sometimes have arrangements with "regular" stores to get their old/damaged stock.

Some people for one reason or another might get a pile of stuff dumped on them, and rather than sort through things they have little idea about, will just donate anything without any obvious value ... to most people in the store, OP's find is just some godawful ugly, frilly dress.

And some people just have too much shit and wind up donating it.

Thrift stores are a goldmine if you're persistent.

There are a lot of different circumstances, I think. I feel like I end up hearing a lot about girl's who parents end up cleaning out their closet and end up accidentally (or purposely) throw out some dresses.

Haven't ever really found any of these supposed "lost dresses" before, but one time I found a really really nice petticoat at Buffalo Exchange for $10. Honestly, it depends a lot on the way they handle donations and the neighborhood/area where said shops are located. If you're in an area that has a bit more money and doesn't rotate or immediately send donations to a central location for sorting then redistribution [what Salvation Army does] then you may find more nice things in the store.

My undergrad university had a pretty ridiculously high population of "rich kids" driving mostly anything from BMW to Benz. They donated their clothes etc to the local thrift shop so there were actually some nice high-end brand items in there that may have been worn once. A lot of things were still tagged.

I can never find anything decent in them. I was pretty poor as a kid and a lot of my clothes came from the Salvation Army. There was a big one in my neighborhood.
I'e never seen a Goodwill. In fact, I used to think it was just a generic term for a thrift store that they'd use on TV shows. Either they aren't common or they just don't really exist in my area. There are several mom & pop thrift stores in my old neighborhood though. I don't know if they are any better than the big name ones though. It's been awhile since I've been to one.

Maybe I just have super bad luck but I neverfind any decent clothing. Most of the stuff i pick up tends to be knicknacks and old PS/PS2 games.

Pretty sure that Anon was just trying to let others know that donations don't stay at the store re: if there's one in a ritzy neighborhood, said ritzy donations don't necessarily land in that store because of their distribution practices. I don't think Anon brought that up to start some moral war.

But yea, most areas have local thrift stores too so they can make the choice where they want to shop. Then again, I think when you're that down on your luck, you tend to be less picky about policies and political agendas versus not having clothing to survive.

If you want to spend a day thrifting I recommend Paper Bag Princess on Cuba, and Spacesuit only if they're having a sale (they do some imported second hand stuff but are usually ridiculously overpriced except at sale time). All the actual "vintage" stores are expensive as fuck. Recycle Boutique is pretty good though.

In terms of suburbian thrifting, Opportunity for Animals and Red Cross (Newtown/Kilbirnie) are pretty good; the sallies and St Vincent's are also worth a look but I have much less luck there.

They don't "shut gays out in the cold." In fact, if you bother to read their policies it says that gay people just aren't eligible to become their church ministers or full members, but they wouldn't turn any customers or people in need away because of their sexual orientation.

And you know something? They're in their right to do that as a religious organization. Many religious organizations have their own rules (specifically against women) who do a hell of a lot less for the general population, yet you won't see hardly anyone stirring shit up about that. So maybe instead of projecting your misplaced anger on an organization that has helped millions of people worldwide, you should look at the bigger picture.
