Anyone going to Hal-Con?

I'm currently working in Cape Breton for the fall but I'll be home near Halifax for 26-28 Oct.

Problem is, I have like no friends here anymore. And I've never really cosplayed but I'd LOVE to get into it. What I'm saying is, is there anyone out there looking to meet someone new/go to the con with?

I thought about going, but I don't think it's worth the ticket cost for me to go, I'm interested in some of the panels but not for 75$ weekend pass. It seems much more sci-fi fantasy than the animu's
I was selfishly hoping there might a lolita sort of event or so, but that's nonsense.

Hal-fag (lolita) here. There's no lolita event at the con itself, but there is a meet-up on the Saturday of the con. I don't know if I'm going yet.

As someone who is paying $600+ to fly out to Washington for Katsucon, I'm surprised I was so bitter about the $75 price tag, but yeah, it's basically the most expensive con ever for something so small.

I moved here a couple months ago from Ontario, the local anime group is really swell, looking forward to getting some good cosplay photos. I'm just so desperate for a convention that Hal-con is looking pretty good, we don't have anything else until Animeritime in June, and that's 5 hours away. I'm confirmed for running 3 panels over the halcon weekend~ so there will be a bit of animu content. Come check it out!

Desc: Studio Ghibli has single-handedly brought anime to the masses in North America. In this panel we will discuss the works of founder and director Hayao Miyazaki, creator of Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo.

Time: 3:00pm - 3:45pm on Sunday
Name: Video Panel: Anime Shorts
Desc: We'll be watching a truck load of different creative Anime shorts, from the 3min. long episodes of 'Morita-san' to the stand-alone feline monologue 'she and her cat'.

I'm actually looking for a couple co-panelists for Miyazaki and Gainax, just people to help with the conversation, talk about your favorite characters/movies/etc. if anyone's interested. Also, is anyone doing any elaborate cosplays or anything? I guess the con's going to be small enough that i'll have a chance to get some photos of most costumes.

Most of the Halifax Lolitas don't even wear or own lolita. They wear a cutesy t-shirt that's waaaaaay too small over a shit-teir skirt and call it a day. There's literally two girls who can dress themselves, and only one owns brand. I don't think she goes to meets though. I've seen her around town and at the mall though, so cute! I just like to lurk.
