Why are there so many awful cosplays of L?

Why is it apparently so easy to fuck up such a simple design

People underestimate the character and think "Oh, this'll be easy; messy hair, white shirt and some jeans. Done."

In reality, something so simple rarely looks good without a great deal of careful consideration and faithfulness to the design. You can't just rub some black eyeshadow under your eyes, borrow your brother's jeans and not brush your hair. It takes some observation and thought.

Because it's such an easy cosplay, you have to pay hard attention to details. Therefore, it's easy to fuck up.

The most common problems that L cosplayers have are the wigs, the clothes and the makeup. They rarely EVER wear wigs and just that simple step would make their cosplay tons better. They never pick a good shirt and jeans. It's always too tight or the wrong colours. And then lastly they think swiping eyeliner under their eyes will make convincing eye bags. It really pisses me off because I love death note and the fans are on par with narutards.

For the same reason its easy to fuck up nearly any character from One Piece or Homestuck.

People think "Oh, all I need a t-shirt and some shorts and I'm done!"

You don't even need to spend nearly as much time getting the whole costume right, but because they think it is so easy, they take even less time than they are supposed to.

How has no one choked from the amount of Godwin's law in this thread?

And I've never particularly liked feminists for the same reason I've never particularly liked any single point idealogy - aim is way too small and way too focussed on that certain point. I never could get into any of those special interest clubs like LGBT and (insert minority group)'s rights for that reason. And perhaps I just don't have interest in those sorts of social causes. Not to mention most of the people in there are incredibly dull conversation because apparently everything has to revolve around that topic.

If you ask an Asian what their ethnicity is, chances are they'll tell you what country their family came from instead of just "Asian." It's just something people do.

Not the others, but his hair is bugging me. it looks like a lot of hair product for someone who wouldn't give a shit about his hair.

Also, although y'this is an issue with bringing any 2D character to 3D, he really doesn't "look" like L. it wouldn't be a bad idea for a movie adaptation, but for a manga to real life adaptation, it sort of falls short.
