Personally, I think it's fine as long as the design is really nice. I think it's only bad when it looks like they just took some random clothes out of their closet and put on a wig and said "OC!!!".

I agree. I was thinking of going with something like this to use my Necomimi cat ears and go along with the General school girl look. I just want to use a white wig against my tan skin because I think the contrast of it looks nice. just white wigs on darker people in General is pretty cool looking too

I haven't done any OC cosplay before but I'm dying to cosplay my bat-boy Silas. The ears would be an absolute nightmare though. I figure it would look nice anyway since he wears kodona. Don't have any actual pictures of his design on hand but here's a gift art I got of him.

Tempted to, but my characters tend to have elaborate or bulky accessories.

Plus, I don't want to have to explain over and over why I'm dressed as a character nobody recognises.

I made an OC character as a troll cosplay. Went to a con with a name and a backstory, even said i was from a VN, people actually bought it. I even had some people saying "Oh! I know of that game!" riiiight, sure you do. Eventually I started designing the characters myself and even a really good plot, so now I'm actually making it into a VN.

Later this year (or early next) I'm probably going to be making an "OC" Homestuck costume.

Nothing major. I'm a big fan of all the God Tiers, especially the super-comfy looking designs like Maid or Thief. I'd like to make some God Tier pajamas in any colour/Aspect to just wear around Cons on days where I really don't have the energy to strut about in-costume (like on a Sunday afternoon.) So far I've been wearing Kigurumis on Convention "Off" days but I think a God Tier outfit would be fun too.

Something like Thief of Mind or Maid of Hope. Technically non-Canon and not a real character, but still a real Homestuck design.

[Pic related] is an OC I've been wanting to cosplay ever since I made this crappy drawing 2 years ago (yeah, I know the Cyrillic is probably incorrect). It won't be recognisable by anyone, but I quite like the design and I'd have a lot of fun making the costume.

Like other people have said, OCs are fine so long as it's not just plainclothes and a random wig, and as long as you're not being a complete fucking Mary Sue weeb.

I love OC cosplay because if they're done well (not tossing on a wig and random clothes) then the designs can be really amazing. I both love and hate IMVU for that because I end up designing so many avatars that I want to cosplay. I'm working on a siren now and I think I might cosplay it now that it's easier to find ear fins.

Also, I wish I had the full group saved but this group did an entire chessboard OC cosplay.

You could also turn it into a workshop sort of thing, like a character development workshop, tips on making a well rounded character, things of that nature.
