have you been to a con in london before?
i have not but i hear they are too busy to really do anything/talk to anyone. also hotels and prices in london are appalling. I had more fun at my last two cons which were really small and cost, i think, £20 and £7, than i have had at any other. First thing that happened when i went into the £7 one was someone gave me a nazi salute lmao had a really nice time there, met a wide range of people including one older guy who really knew his stuff anime-wise.

Honestly i personally find big cons a little more relaxing in a strange way, just go with a couple of friends, enjoy a day wondering around looking at overpriced crap and just be another body in a huge mass of other humans.
The smaller cons i find kinda bad for my anxiety as theres a lot of social pressure, most people already know each other, and i find cliques are constantly splitting and reforming, and i don't keep up enough with the social dynamics to know what drama is going on currently.

But theres a lot of people on the opposite end of the spectrum who hate being just a rando in a crowd and love being one of those 300 or so people everyone there knows.

Also my helmet is more similar to yuu's (see photo, I only have this one blurry photo showing my full cosplay, I'm there to enjoy the con rather than take photos so i don't bother taking any usually, but then regret it)
I'd love to get an arisaka rifle for this cosplay. (dis-armed of course) although people have difficulty getting such things through security even though they are allowed by their rules.

It's kinda weird seeing thier clothes irl (chi& yuu's) becuase ... it's literally just milsurp. just a normal oldschool soldier. i think only really the symbol and pack are identifiably different, and even they look like a medic's cross and an old british army pack from WW1 (my friend who works in army surplus even mistook it for one!)

I saw you towards the end of Sunday as things started to quiet down in the vendor hall - I saw the cross on your helmet/uniform and for some reason my brain decided it was a fallout thing instead of the actual honest-to-god symbol that GLT uses...

As an aside, did you think the vendor hall was a bit meh for such a big con? Artists alley was TINY compared to AL manchester last month

Are those anime and gaming cons any good? I've never gone to a convention before but was thinking maybe it's a good way to meet some people and make some friends. They look fairly small and cheap though.

>> No.10921239

>>10921227
If you want to meet people then the smaller cons are the better choice.

I can only talk for Manchester that I went to earlier, but I was broadly happy with the stalls (especially artists alley) - compared to L'pool comicon which had a lot more "general" merch and a very small art section.

What do you mean by "creators"? The ones that show up have a cosplay page with 300 followers and they get free tickets for every con when the only thing that they post is 1 picture or two?

Ive seen some atrocities made in MCM this year with the creator program and I question if its something that is even worth it for them.

I would honestly agree that I dont think someone coming to do a 2 or 3 tiktoks in your event for their small community is not going to make much a difference in your marketing. Maybe they are going with the strategy of quantity over quality and even if its a lot of creators they might still buy somethign on the shops

>>10921268

Lol But Crunchyroll pretty much promotes everything its weird for me that they have pulled off. In the end we are going to see that the only con Thriving is going to be animeleague because they kept things small.

>>10921271
MCM goes between being too strict and too relaxed with who they give creator passes to. There's no consistency. A number of people who got one for last month's con didn't deserve it. I expect they'll tighten up for October and find a bunch of "creators" get salty on their Instagram story before paying to attend all 3 days anyway.

>>10922481

I once heard is first come first serve but I dont think this is the case anymore

>>10922500

Im going to be controversial on this but I think both of them do not deserve such unless they also have a different type of approach of showing the event but by presence and posting pictures, I think cosplayers should go more in the room of guests instead of creators as they are part of the show not contributing with content to it.

What I think it would be different if that cosplayer or photographer would report also in the event their experience like a small blog or something like that, then it will be reasonable to give them such ticket, they are pricey so they need to earn their spot.

>>10922722

And here is my whole reason why I should not give photographers a Creator pass but press can do if they are covering for anykind of media.

If they come to the event dont pay anything and dare to charge people for pictures they should pay for it like any other stand or artist would do, period.

As a final note I would say, I do understand the whole why you want a bunch of cosplayers, photographers and overall creators coming to your event because marketing is expensive, youu clearly want to show the event to many people as possible to convince more people to come and specially if you have photos of it all over socials after your event is done.

But I think this has came a lil too far with how the filter is done. Yes I do agree that having a reasonable size on your social and output is a must have, you dont want someone with around 200 followers on instagram and 3 likes in their pictures be given such an opportunity to represent in some way or form your event. But also there is so many FOMO in the industry, you never know who is going to be the new biggest creator or something, many people make a lot of effort this includes cosplayers and photographers to get noticed nowadays on their work. But they should be more consistant to who and why they give passes to ppl

>> No.10922740

>>10922737

And well ok I will add one more thing to my Controversial opinion (4chan limit) The whole reason why they are CREATORS (And I mean everyone) is because if they were guests they would obviously mean they will have to market for them and give them something according to the status (like a stall or even some money or accomodation) when you get them as creators it means you dont need to give them anything but the ticket, so I think this could be a way around on WHY they are doing this, they call them creators because they want a bunch of cosplayers in the event so other people can come but in reality and ive seen a lot of times this happening, I see few people ever approaching the stands of the cosplayers when they are guests.

I guess I should become a creator myself and do a rant on Tiktok about this at some point.

>> No.10922778

How would you rate Animecon everyone?

For me I'd say 8/10. Stalls were all quite good and there was a lot of stuff that actually interested me. Cosplays were super varied and went well beyond the "top 3 anime and games" list I saw in Liverpool last month. Actually, I thought I was going to be a literal who cosplaying Stocking but got recognised a bunch of times and ran into a bunch of other people cosplaying them too

Afterparty on saturday was a mixed bag. the sekrit miku show was a fun treat but the afterparty felt more like a concert than a social event. Others seemed to enjoy tho

Actually went to some of the panels about cosplay and wig styling on Sunday and was happy with the info. I gave the con-sanctioned social events a try and had to walk out tho. Everyone there was like, a decade older than me and everyone had pretty bad social anxiety.

Made some more friends (and last minute even met a youtuber that I had no idea was there) so I think I'll be going again!

HyperJapan definitely has better food but it's a culture festival so they get a one-up on it automatically (and desu I'd rather just go to Subway or spoons right outside). I agree that the layout was a bit weird but it didn't appear to have any dead-corners that an artist would've been shafted into. One vendor I spoke to said they were doing above expectations for sales so that's a positive. I think they should have better directions for where the stages are next time because it was confusing which stage was which (and not typically up against walls where you'd expect them), both stages had the back facing the middle of the hall.

So what exactly are the after parties I keep seeing mentioned on posters at cons?

I've been to like five cons and all of them are me going on my own (no local friends and no online friends interested in cons). All of them had posters for an adults-specific afterparty that typically seem to be run by third parties and also held at bars and such.

I'm assuming it's just a social thing for people to meet other adults with the cons shared interest or go with friends, outside of the context of the all-ages friendly con and in a setting specifically for socialising? If I don't drink and am alone, I assume it ain't really worth going to them? Honestly I'm just really curious if my assumptions here are right or not.

What are you most looking for when visiting conventions? What activities are your favourite, which are most fun? How do you organise? And where do you find people to meet? I'm new to conventions and I do not know how to find company or have fun at conventions. I have not met anyone during conventions, as I'm a highly introverted person and socializing is not my strong point. I'm asking all of this because there is a convention which I will be attending in a few weeks and even if I do not manage to socialize I still wish to squeeze out as much as possible from this experience.

From what ive seen it's probably going no where on their side but more people have gone against Lea and her BF Hanex than against Jasper. In the end who cares I was thinking on doing a post in lolcow about Lea but it seems like it wont be necesary. She lost around 600 followers and was around 6k. Probably people will forget in like a week or two. I would say Lea is not innocent and she has damaged more people aside from Jasper, so its going to turn out on his favor.

In my opinion most people that had griveances against Lea are coming out smelling the blood in the water and is not precisely a small number of them.

I recall someone in this thread months ago said something about her. But im too lazy to find out who it was.

Yeah same I was wondering. Why are people suddenly going out now. Isn’t the first step of abuse reporting it or going to police? Goes to both of them. They both stayed in the same room for a long time even after claiming the other assaulted the other.

What I think is they both had a relationship that they’re both regretting now so they’re calling each other out.

He seems to have participated in the abuse to other people but also been used by Lea as she is badtalking about him all the time apparently, I personally do not know more about the situation with him but in other stories Ive seen from other people that have come out talking about Lea they also mentioned him.

But I do agree with talking with the police. It is something I will never understand about these dramas on the internet, specially when the police here is quick to act with social media stuff instead of the real one.

Probably I would suggest if you follow any of them to stay away from the drama and just watch, but if I see any of them in a convention in the future I would suggest everyone to be aware and not be related to this photographer as there might be more than meets the eye.

Smart idea. I think the truth would be somewhere in the middle of all these people screaming justice.

There were videos of Leaa intentionally being flirty and sweet to Jasper. I don’t doubt for one second that she was the initiator. But I think in all of this, Jasper welcomed the attention. Leaa, a narcissist that she is, after using someone, has gone around to tell everyone a twisted story about Jasper. When in reality, Jasper was just accepting it all. He enjoyed Leaa’s company and he voluntarily gave her a home and finance as he said in his videos and posts. He didn’t want to hold anything back from someone going through violence as Leaa claimed. But since hearing that Leaa went around and twisted the story, Jasper also decided to twist the story. I think that’s the baseline really. Leaa is a narcissist and Jasper is just out for revenge. I don’t think anyone is innocent. It’s a shame for real victims out there.

Obviously Jasper loved the attention, as a trans man and Lea is not precisely a bad looking individual, she could be easily in a lot of people's beauty canon while Jasper will surely find more difficulties to find a partner (But which apparently doesnt seem like at the minute he is struggling with that Blonde woman which doesnt look bad DESU but we dont know)

Anyone would love attention from someone that they percieve as atractive and imagine if you have this "young cosplayer girl" because as far as I know Lea must be in her early 20s, that pretty much is a Yandere mess with you.

I would say maybe Jasper would have NOT wanted some intimacy at the beggining but then later on accepted it to probably went to the state that he is now.

If they did not get involved the police at any point any of them it was they would probably knew that they both did stuff that was wrong to the other person.

But obviously here Jasper seems to be very confident on what they say on their socials as he got the upper hand because has secured the most moral support for his claim and had the initiative to do it.

I think the destruction of the credibility of Lea is something that she has seeked for by herself aside from her relationship with Jasper and more focusing on her own relationship with Hahex, which from what ive seen in some of the delivered screenshots by some individuals, she was always complaining about.

One part stook me off from her that pretty much Hahex is in Universal Credit, does not seem to be interested in finding a regular job and seems to despise that he has to take care of her sorry poor ass by simping for her (Idk who buys her cosplays but It does not seem its him morelike she might have some paypigs or some secret onlyfans like secret content or whatever)

That it seems like he was the one who wanted a sugar mommy more than taking care of someone, personaly I dont see him as a victim, I see him as someone that is a predator and thought he could host someone attractive and vulnerable on his wing and take advantage of when in the end she was the one who has been taken advantage of. He did not had pure intentions with her and probably I would watch out for him in the future and how he interacts with other cosplayers (specially females) as we do not forget he is a photographer and we all know what type of people photographers are.

But the abuse issue being thrown around from both Jasper and Lea is something that the community must watch out for. Lea sounds like bully who would follow people to toilets. I hope there’s surveillance to show this.
Jasper also sounds like a jilted lover. If the relationship continued, I don’t see him complaining. I think it’s because Lea went ahead and complained about him. Cause why is jasper only speaking out now? It’s been years wasn’t it?

No idea and I assume that the jannies are fine with us discussing the whole situation but not getting into the gossip territory.

We are doing this from a neutral point of view in the end. But there is not much else to say as both of them already moved on with their respective claims against each other.

Like I said, give it a week or two and people will just "forget". We are 4chan and we are anons. Probably she keeps doing it to gain sympathy because do not forget, there is no more vulnerable woman in some eyes than the one that has suffered abuse my a man.

In general terms I do understand is not as easy as "Stand up and leave" but like we previously discussed. If anyone is a victim of abuse they should go to the authorities, period. There is also organizationss that help with victims of abuse (Specially a lot for women) and even trans. Get your bitterness to the internet "will help you" You get them exposed for one week then the next one everyone has pretty much moved on. There is no real "justice" more than self satisfaction.

Like literally, just stop trying to win everyone's sympathy by playing victim (not directed to anyone in particular) Go to the police and bring receipts

Agreed. I would believe their claims once they take their proofs to police. Since both side is so sure of their evidences. Go ahead then. That would also be best option cause if one party is proven victim, they can file for restraining order or something like that. Then the creep won’t get be able to attend cons and *our community is safe again* that’s hitting two birds with one stone. Get your justice. Go to the police. And protect our community. Go to the police. It’s not victim shaming as sugary claims. In this world where there’s so much allegations like for example amber and Johnny. Johnny was cancelled hard before he was revealed to be the victim. Just go through the due process and get it legally.

Who is Sugary? Another one piling on one of the sides or? What did person say or do? I dont think we are victim blaming here, we are stating something that can be taken as factually true. Two sides and a botched love relationship that went terribly wrong, one side did not stand up to defend themselves for long did not go to the authorities to report a clear sexual assault that happened to him and harnessed vitriol until they could not take it anymore, the other one is a spiteful bitch that clearly likes to be an attention whore has girl on the internet syndrome and is a professional parasite of lonely men, the definition of "I can fix her". She will be a fuck doll until her beauty runs out of she runs into someone that actually abuses her again like she has claimed against others such as Jasper.

I would not say Jasper is not a victim in some sorts, but he could have "man up" like they say. Think critically and done something about it much earlier than when he said.

If I get someone tell me to shower with them because they are scared of falling down or whatsoever because of health reasons I would sit down on the toilet seat meanwhile they take their shower and not get into the shower with them. The situation is pretty much over, there is no much more tea left and the crumpets have gone dry. Move on anons, we will waste our time with this.

Sugary .nd is her handle
She made a document as well talking about her story and the link is on jasper speaks out ig.
Omg that’s it isn’t it? When the real thing happens to her later, no one would believe her then.
And yeah I think Jasper is also a victim in this overall, (so is Henry) but I really think Jasper could’ve done a lot in terms of protecting themselves. Allowing Leaa to hurt him as long as she did, give me the impression that Jasper allowed for it to happen, didn’t like it, but tolerated it. Like if you have a dog who took a dump on the living room, you don’t like it but you keep cleaning it and you tolerate it. But later on when the dog bites you, you harbor resentment and ask for the dog to be put down. Jasper endured the abuse for a while. As you said, hoping to “fix her”. I believe if Leaa hadn’t gone around telling people bad things about Jasper, he would’ve just crossed it off as an awful romantic experience.

To give Leaa the benefit of the doubt, she also shouldve gone to police since she always claims to he hospitalised or injured of some sorts. That’s an easy report to make for her since she has so many “evidence”.

I wonder what’s the purpose of coming out now? Alienate Leaa? Really just go to police. They’re still posting that they have more horrendous data gathered that they’re just not sharing online. What’s the purpose of all this? In the end, by claiming to have the goal of protecting the community, why not report it properly? As you said, will move on and Leaa will still attend events.

Minamicon
Kokorocon
Tokonatsu

There you go, another two for free. All are a fraction of the cost of Kita for accomm, food and drink, with a much better schedule and overall vibe.

Vtuber Expo looked crap from what I saw of it.

minamicon - old guard go there to die, like 300 people
kokoro - like 400 people tops, sure good schedule, but ghost town
toko - get fucked mate, i aint camping

but kita con with 1,000+ people, fucking good raves and the steps, yuk! dead con, we all hate it. dick heads

I think the issue was this year kita was not 1000 +. I don’t think they sold as many tickets which is why (if I’m assuming correctly) the duck wasnt open.

I didn’t go though, just going by Facebook posts of friends that did and what you lot have posted here.

>> No.10933837

Duck was definitely open all three days

Warwick is cooked.

Duck was open but they sold around 700-800 tickets. It's definitely not Warwick numbers.

>> No.10933879

Yeah koko has now like 700 tickets sold, in a tiny venue. somehow got the whole hotel for the con.

Ah cool. Earlier in this thread someone was saying that. I’ve seen a few FB posts saying it was quieter. Thanks for clarification.
>>10933843
Possibly in the future yeah, unless cons can guarantee more peeps. If not, it’s likely to be too expensive/risky. Like when Gemu Con had to cancel.

>> No.10933952

Received committee intel last night that neither Kita nor Ame will be returning to Warwick. Won't reveal my sources so feel free to believe or disregard as you like, but Warwick is indeed cooked. Kita have also apparently burned their bridges with multiple other cons over the way things were handled this year. Shenny is not a popular guy right now.

Not a chance in hell unless 400 people stayed in their room all weekend or bought a ticket but didn't show. Which would be its own reflection of the quality of the con...

What sort of things did they do? All I saw as an event runner was overly complicated systems that didn't fucking work and atrocious messaging.

same shit we hear every year, that post is total bullshit, kita and ame will be back at warwick next time and no one will remember that guy’s comment.

Screencap the post, I'll be back to say I told you so when we next hear from Kita.

>>10933981
Not sure about inside their own event, but they've ruined their relationship with Tokonatsu by:
A) running against them on dates (again)
B) expecting Toko to run their games room despite this
C) demanding this at the last minute when Toko had already refused way earlier in the year

Then they pissed off Amecon by:
A) calling them at the last possible minute to cry about not having a games room (literally a week before the event)
B) expecting Ame's games room guy to lend out all his equipment and let a guy from Kita get paid to run it without his supervision

That's the long and short of what I know. Minami and Toko are basically the same people staff-wise so Kita have also now burned that relationship.

Not saying Kita won't run again, btw. They might. But it will be with no support from other UK cons outside maybe Kokoro, and it won't be at Warwick. Expect even lower numbers if it does as they've now pissed off a huge number of the con scene oldfags.

>>10934045
complete bullshit, i was in the games room when the games room guy was talking to the ex-ame chair? he was dressed as a girl, idk honestly. anyway, apparently amecon called kita to offer help and something about damaged projector screens from storage, nice try though.

also, i know a lot of the minami committee, there’s cross over with toko, but it’s the same with amecon. kita has always been it’s own thing.

the toko thing is always the case, i remember some kita guy saying you get like one weekend offered from warwick, take it or leave it, so not like they control their dates

Are any cons worth going to post-Summer? I'm always busy during Summer because my work is mostly seasonal, but I'm not sure if it's worth my time traveling a bit for some of the remaining ones for '24 if they're just going to be quieter small-scale ingroup meetups, or to skip for this year and to wait for next years pre-Summer ones in '25.
Currently eyeing up Sheffield, but if any Anons here are thinking of going to any others afterward, I'd be down to tag along instead.

Kokoro is pretty great, as it has that huge lobby for social space, plenty of quiet spots to chill and a good variety of room sizes for event panels both big and small. It also had an asian supermarket nearby that served hot food.
