Use something like wood filler and sanding on solid parts to smooth out before you prime and paint. Paint additively in small layers to build up and reduce the chance of it clumping or being uneven. Once you have an uneven surface that's primed and painted, there's not much you can do besides remembering to do better then next time you make something. That's not terrible, just use that and have fun, and make it better next time.
